- aussieNickuss, on 04/15/2008, -1/+20"And I watched it to."
- lamiaconfitor, on 04/15/2008, -3/+21"Well... I'd call you." Great show, great spoof. totally dugg.
- Uranium118, on 04/15/2008, -4/+18The explanations sound complicated enough to convince most people. But if a mathematician watches the show, he would probably laugh at all the mistakes.
- inactive, on 04/15/2008, -3/+17i love Numb3rs because it's a consistent show. If LOST is a pizza that occasionally needs to be thrown out, Numb3rs is the beer i use to wash it down.
- TechyLah, on 04/15/2008, -0/+13Come ON, guys! The math concepts are there and are generally correct. Ok so they push capabilities a little bit. We're still talking valid concepts, probably mostly valid implementations if the resources existed. The graphics of computer screens running math programs are NOT fudged but are real Mathematica, Macsyma and MAthlab, and who knows what other programs. This is not made up hocus pocus pseudo science, pseudo math, or science fiction.
It's not like they have magic programs, tri-corders, or HAL-9000s. I love this show and appreciate that they pay real techies as consultants.
Give them a break! Especially compared to what passes for science and math out there! - Gonasadude, on 04/15/2008, -19/+31bah. I hate this show. Numb3rs is so wrong some times. "with two photos, I could analyze the shadows and, using spherical astronomy, give you the exact latitude and longitude."
Well, sure, if you knew exactly what time and day the photo was taken. Numb3rs basically uses semi-on-topic math/science buzzwords to piece things together. Did I mention I hate the show? - CypherXero, on 04/15/2008, -0/+9He probably meant how long does it take to become proficient at chess, and yes, that takes years of practice.
- chrispr, on 04/15/2008, -2/+10I'm a Security Consultant, watch the show, and can't remember anytime they stepped over the line with computer hacking buzzwords.
- klev2010, on 04/15/2008, -5/+13omg, I love Numb3rs!!! even though i don't understand half the stuff they talk about, it is still like my favorite show on TV, other than NCIS, and 24, but 24 isn't back yet, it only comes back next year!! dugg!
- ThankTheCheese, on 04/15/2008, -0/+8Hello, my name is Leslie Moonves, president of CBS. We're having a CSI boardroom meeting this weekend and we think you have what it takes to come up with some great ideas.
I know it may seem strange me recruiting talent on Digg.com, but in my experience I've found this to be an excellent source of ideas. Writers found through digg.com have come up with classic CSI hallmarks such as the Enhance® button, the computer that beeps every time you do anything, and that whole Second Life episode of CSI:NY.
we'll be in touch soon
- Leslie - crowbar77, on 04/15/2008, -0/+6Chances are if a website needs IE to work, its not worth going to.
- SuminderJi, on 04/15/2008, -2/+7Just like CIS is so freakin accurate.
Its just a show, fun to watch, entertainment. ...that being said, I can understand your gripe. Just let it go though.
Oh I'm Indian, where guns pop outta no where and dance sequences manage to be amazingly choreographed out of thin air. - deanlowe, on 04/15/2008, -3/+8It's a TV drama, it doesn't have to be 100% accurate.
- lightningrod220, on 04/15/2008, -1/+6Stupid CBS flash player. YouTube link, anyone?
Edit: found it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVSFzswY3XY - LemmingJesus, on 04/15/2008, -2/+7Too, the word is too.
- avgbody, on 04/15/2008, -0/+4Actually there are a group of mathematicians that work for the show, and the majority of the time they get their way.
- Intangible360, on 04/15/2008, -0/+4I liked it, you know how each one has its own strengths and weaknesses...
- BKred, on 04/15/2008, -1/+5The show used to be great. The math was really well integrated into the show in pretty believable ways, and the explanation that Krumholtz's character were vivid and simple enough to really get the point across. Nowadays, it's become extremely campy. It's become a lot less focused on math and more on the characters and the plots of the shows have been really silly. I mean, they had one about comic books and one about ARGs in a row. It's like sometimes they make a show for the math geeks and sometimes they make a show for "normal" people, but they can't integrate them together anymore.
Still, it's been renewed for another season, and I still like it enough to watch it, so I will. Maybe it'll get better... - LemmingJesus, on 04/15/2008, -1/+4You must not have seen the ten pretty iMac desktops.
- theHive, on 04/15/2008, -2/+5Well, yeah. That's what happens when the maths is added after the script is written.
- adoggz, on 04/15/2008, -1/+4who says that they don't?
- Coyote47, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3the binladen tapes are indoors
- alastria, on 04/15/2008, -0/+3Funny. I posted this identical thing two weeks ago, and got a grand total of 4 diggs. I guess you have to be somebody before you get a post to make it on the front page.

- ChaosProfessor, on 04/15/2008, -1/+4too ***** early for that
- mechman, on 04/15/2008, -1/+3I'm diggin' it.
- csabin, on 04/15/2008, -1/+3I love it.
- ZenMojo, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2Nah, they actually get input from mathematicians at the campus they film at. My friend's boyfriend is a grad student there and his teacher's a consultant.
- fryguy1013, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2Numb3rs has the super-hero element to it in that Charlie is able to do things that are possible, but take a long time and a team of people to do, and do them in a short period of time by himself (sometimes with his girlfriend helping). However, almost everything in the show mathematics wise is possible to do, given enough time. It's kind of the same thing as the fact that bad guys generally are bad at aiming guns at the cops. The show is much more realistic than CSI in those regards (i.e. enhance button), and don't even get me started about how terrible the technobabble is on NCIS when Abby and Mcgee start talking about computers.
- fotoman, on 04/15/2008, -0/+2and ironically it worked just fine on my linux box ;)
- themastersb, on 04/15/2008, -0/+2Three?
- radix2, on 04/15/2008, -1/+3I suspect wince rather than laugh.
I was going to say cringe, but that is taboo these days isn't it? - aussieNickuss, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Oh well.....I've got there/they're/their, then/than, your/you're all sorted. It's just to/too that I'm still working on. I actually thought the only time you use "too" was when talking in excess (eg. "That's TOO expensive."), but I only just realised that "too" is used for "in addition" and "also" as well.
- erohen, on 04/15/2008, -4/+5thats what the MAC commercials should do. PC says "What if you stumble across a website that needs IE" Apple Says "I guess I still need a PC" PC Says "I Thought so"
- lamiaconfitor, on 04/15/2008, -1/+2"the only way you get better is by playing a smarter opponent." Sorry... I love Revolver.
- noerrorsfound, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1I'm not skilled enough with mathematics to notice the mistakes they make, but I did notice a stupid mistake regarding firearm terminology in one episode. Everyone was looking at a projected image, and that woman Don was dating said, "Look at the way she's holding that rifle." The gun being held was actually an Uzi (normal sized, not a smaller variant).
- synchestric, on 04/15/2008, -1/+2Well, http://www.kronenberg.org/ies4osx/
- inactive, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Yup. Sad by true.
- crowbar77, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1OMG!!!! those are my favorites to!!! i cant wait!!!!!!!
- cthellis, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1What the hell is Mr. Universe doing with Fleischman?
- thenewmadmax, on 04/15/2008, -1/+1so true, no matter how fancy of the stuff you do with a mac, you still need to eventually use a pc
- ravensheart, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0I'm sure that would be a great vid, (DUGG!) but the vid wont play for me =( ...
I love Numb3rs and Macs, il have to try again... - MadeInGuam, on 04/15/2008, -7/+5Can't they find pants that fit? Maybe they should find the right size "numbers" for their pants. Get it?! (Numbers is the name of the show!)
- LemmingJesus, on 04/15/2008, -9/+7Well I'm watching an episode of the show, and it is pretty lame. They keep trying to use obscure words to sound like they have some idea what they were talking about. It's kind of like hacking in movies, when the fat kid in Transformers is using a fancy 3D interface to look at the magic sound that hacks the government's computers.
- ravensheart, on 04/17/2008, -1/+0THANK you! See my comment a few below, it wouldn't work. Thanks!
- SunAlex, on 08/26/2008, -1/+0link doesn't work, so I hope there is not such interesting information.
