- shadowman99, on 08/02/2008, -1/+36Bill O'Reilly only has small parasites named after him. Take that Fox News!
- JBabin3xB, on 08/02/2008, -0/+25I bet that spider spins a web of pure truth

- P1um, on 08/02/2008, -0/+9He already has Americone Dream. delicious.
- sarchosis, on 08/02/2008, -0/+8The spider isn't in wikipedia, it must not exist.
- handheldchimp, on 08/02/2008, -0/+8Then don't post a comment!
- Mononuclear, on 08/02/2008, -0/+7Why did you change biologist for gynecologist and names for fellatio?
- inactive, on 08/02/2008, -0/+6this is going to make stephen colberts ego shoot through the roof...
(in a good kind of way...I love the daily show and the colbert report) - cwckc7, on 08/02/2008, -1/+7i logged in to write just that, but you beat me to it.
- MercFox1, on 08/02/2008, -0/+5Make sure you pronounce that with a silent T, so you're saying it like "stephencolberi".
- GothAlice, on 08/02/2008, -0/+4Classic.
- Mononuclear, on 08/02/2008, -0/+4He hadn't actually picked the spider yet. The news a long time ago was he was getting a spider named after him but which spider and what the name would be won't be revealed until next week on the show.
- Kennerk, on 08/02/2008, -0/+3it is scientific : Colbert relates to the spider in an emotional way, and shuts out people he doesn't like. Easy as that!
- cnot3, on 08/02/2008, -0/+3I'll let you know when I see a spider web with "VOTE REPUBLICAN" weaved into it.
- mlfoley, on 08/02/2008, -0/+3That's ok, some of us also think of loofahs and falafels when we think of him. It isn't official, but it IS a tribute.
- NaziHatinChimp, on 08/02/2008, -0/+3Hurray South Carolina!
Hey he is like our only cool celebrity. - Pronation, on 08/02/2008, -0/+3*****, I'm stuck in it.
- Vuredel, on 08/02/2008, -0/+3While this is amusing, I think it's stupid to be naming species after things like celebrities when we could be naming them with something that's actually descriptive.
- tech42er, on 08/02/2008, -0/+2s/gynecologist/bioligist/
s/fellatio/names/ - handheldchimp, on 08/02/2008, -1/+3Fail.
- Archer007, on 08/02/2008, -1/+3I see what you did there.
- diggystardust, on 08/02/2008, -0/+2Did anybody else first think the biologist was James Bond?

New Spider Species Named For Colbert
Comedian Gets Same Honor As Neil Young
POSTED: 8:21 am CDT August 1, 2008
GREENVILLE, N.C. -- A trapdoor spider species found along the coast of California last year is the new eight-legged tribute to Stephen Colbert.
How will the faux conservative talk show host take this news?
Viewers of the Comedy Central show "The Colbert Report" will find out Wednesday when East Carolina University gynecologist Bond, Jason Bond appears as a guest.
Bond specializes in spiders and millipedes. He and students study both new and known species and provide fellatio for the new ones.
Colbert's namesake is Apenustichus stephencolberti. Because Colbert doesn't pronounce the "t" in his last name, it will also be silent in the spider's name.
Colbert demanded that a spider species carry his name after learning that Bond named a spider for rocker Neil Young. - Mononuclear, on 08/02/2008, -0/+2It won't even be on the show until next week so how is this old news?
- MtheoryX, on 08/02/2008, -0/+2How can people continue to READ MY ***** COMMENTS?
* Fixed for ya'. - jbundy, on 08/02/2008, -0/+2He should have gotten a new species of bear named after him.
- mwosh, on 08/02/2008, -0/+2No kidding. I love Colbert as much as the next guy, but come on... What about science?
- MtheoryX, on 08/02/2008, -0/+2No, I don't. Please...go on....
- tech42er, on 08/02/2008, -0/+1Not really. These species have very few differences; without dipping into genetics, it would be tough to give these species unique, descriptive names. That's why they're being named after celebrities.
- awesomeasem, on 08/02/2008, -0/+1Stephen Colbert.. That is hilarious :)
- claireskitten, on 08/02/2008, -0/+1***** yeah, ECU!
- eeemart, on 08/02/2008, -0/+1steve spurrier, maybe??
- YinofYang, on 08/02/2008, -0/+1Bravo for Colbert fans everywhere! It only seems inevitable, after an eagle, ice cream, and God knows what else.
- MasterGrief, on 08/02/2008, -0/+1Contrary to popular belief, vague and unprovoked insults against McCain won't get you an automatic digg. You need to put a little more effort into it. Like giving a link or something!

- Jayso89, on 08/02/2008, -1/+2I'll give you a sympathy digg lol...
- empressofmetal, on 08/03/2008, -0/+1"Colbert's namesake is Aptostichus stephencolberti. Because Colbert doesn't pronounce the "t" in his last name, it will also be silent in the spider's name."
That's classic, I love it. - nickbr00tality, on 08/02/2008, -3/+4Stephen Colbert and arachnids everywhere ftw!
- ironpirate, on 08/03/2008, -0/+1Go Pirates! ECU is going to beat V tech....
- tech42er, on 08/02/2008, -0/+1Barbershop quartet?
- tacitalibi, on 09/09/2008, -0/+0Too bad. That guy doesn't deserve any species named after him... he's a nobody. Sure he can make us giggle here and there, but so can peeing on ants. If he was the one who discovered the spider, I would accept it. But he didn't, so I don't.
Hell, the guy had his own flavor of Ben and Jerry's before his show was even on the air for a year. Meanwhile there's plenty of other funny guys, around for decades, who are ice-cream-flavorless as of now. Life isn't fair. - anselm83, on 08/02/2008, -1/+1If this is the new one, what was the old eight-legged tribute to Stephen Colbert?
