- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -1/+143Tennant is my favorite Doctor, I'm sad to see him go. His humor and timing and bizarre facial expressions were just awesome to witness. He also could bring on the dramatics really well, he put a lump in my throat on more than one occasion.
- 88chrisb, on 01/03/2009, -16/+107Doctor Who is an emo now?
- rebotfc, on 01/03/2009, -6/+91Too young, the doctor needs to look like he has lived a little.
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -1/+65I know it's part of the series to have the Doctor change every one in a while, and I respect that, but... I still wouldn't mind having 3 more seasons with Tennant, hell, I'd want 10 more seasons with Tennant!
- markperia, on 01/03/2009, -0/+64Blink was such a good Doctor Who story. Its my favorite even including the classic series.
- borez, on 01/03/2009, -5/+67Who?
Oh well, I guess well see. - kanabal, on 01/03/2009, -5/+62RTD gone and no more Tennant.
Glad RTD is going and the Brilliant Moffet (Girl in the fireplace and Blink) is taking over. 2010 should be good. - bitweever, on 01/03/2009, -0/+54Blink was terrifying with very little special effects. I'm amazed that they were able to pull off that much suspense with a few statues.
- lil_isie, on 01/03/2009, -3/+51Am I the only person who really liked Christopher Eccleson as Doctor Who? I mean I've only seen some of David Tennant thus far, but still.
- retral, on 01/03/2009, -1/+46I'm going to miss David Tennant..
- Peril, on 01/03/2009, -2/+46Doctor?? He's barely old enough to be a med student!
- rlbond86, on 01/03/2009, -3/+45COME BACK DAVID TENNANT.
- Enlightenment, on 01/03/2009, -0/+39I also miss Tom Baker, but so do most fans.
- boldfire, on 01/03/2009, -1/+40Wait until you see his performance. Obviously he doesn't look old, but then none of the actors have ever looked like a ~900 year old. It'll all come down to how he portrays the knowledge the Doctor carries.
I feel the 2010 series is going to be very dark, Stephen Moffat is a brilliant writer who wrote the amazing 'Blink' episode and 'The Empty Child' and judging by the publicity shot this is going to be a dark series. Note how the TARDIS is almost monochrome compared to it's usual bright blue colour? - Enlightenment, on 01/03/2009, -1/+37I will miss David Tennant (and Rose):
- "Tooth and Claw".
- "The Girl In The Fireplace".
- "New Earth".
Steven Moffat wrote "The Girl In The Fireplace", which is one of the best episodes ever. The script for this episode was nominated for the 2006 Nebula Award.[3] "The Girl in the Fireplace" also won the 2007 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form.[4]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Girl_in_the_Firep ... - keozen, on 01/03/2009, -1/+36Steven Moffat, who is taking the helm writing wise, is a very good writer.
Combined with Matt who, despite looking a little odd in some of the promo pics, seems to be a very capable actor from the clips of his recent work that were shown on the BBC tonight, we may have a good full series 5 on the way.
Cross fingers - Aviatora, on 01/03/2009, -1/+35I quite liked Eccleson, it would have been nice if he'd stuck around for another season. Tennant, though, really made the role his own after having several seasons to do so.
- ozziek, on 01/03/2009, -1/+34Too young - any sidekick will have to be even younger turning Doctor Who into some teenage Soap ;(
- Attunement, on 08/02/2009, -5/+37Good Luck to him.
- Kevinok, on 01/03/2009, -4/+36What was wrong with RTD? I thought the past four season were some of the best ever for Doctor Who.
- eklife, on 01/03/2009, -0/+30Exterminaaaaaate!
- markperia, on 01/03/2009, -1/+29allons-y!
- mayonaize, on 01/03/2009, -6/+34Emo. emoemoemo. EMO.
Huff, he'll probably be alright. Should've gone older though and not had their eyes on the action figure income. As long as he's in Victorian dandy/smart attire and not a ***** Strokes t-shirt or some ***** you KNOW they've considered. - inactive, on 01/03/2009, -3/+25Agreed. Simply amazing. Each one was better than 90% of the movies that are released in theaters today. They were creative and dramatic and funny and filled with action.
Some of them explored the human condition, the ugly and the good, like the episode when they are stuck on the ship that crashed and something starts to invade their bodies by repeating everything they say and the group gets paranoid and starts accusing each other of being an alien. Kind of like The Thing and the Salem witch trials combined. - Crimsoneer, on 01/04/2009, -0/+21Lot's of planets have a North!
- groo68, on 01/03/2009, -1/+22david tennant was my favorite.
- nursebettyrawks, on 01/03/2009, -2/+22He's a BRILLIANT choice. I saw him playing opposite Christian Slater in 'Swimming With Sharks' in the West End last year and wondered where he had sprung from. He had great stage presence and held his own against Christian, who normally dominates a scene. Sure, he's young, but he's got that quintessential, eccentric British quality down pat - which is three-quarters of the Doctor in the first place. Did you see his long tapered fingers fluttering around as he splutters trying to find the right words? Lovely! He's tall and he's gangly and hasn't quite grown into his body yet, but he has foppish hair, a crinkly forehead and an endearing nature. Just like Tennant, he's a method actor who has cut his teeth on the stage.
Watch him. He's gonna be HUGE. - cJw314, on 01/03/2009, -4/+23He's... awfully... unattractive?
- Daxx22, on 01/04/2009, -1/+19I don't know about actual age but to me Donna looked older than Tennant.
- kismetropolis, on 01/03/2009, -1/+19I'm a huge Tenny [10th Doctor,Tennant] fan, but I'm willing to at least give this new fellow a choice before I say whether or not BBC makes a good choice.
- xfile087, on 01/03/2009, -1/+18I wish David Tennant was still the doctor as much as the next guy but at least give the new guy a chance! You haven't seen him play the doctor yet, you never know - he might be good at it!
- Pixelante, on 01/03/2009, -1/+17That should be Jack Harkness. The Doctor just dances around a little now and then.
- inactive, on 01/04/2009, -0/+16RTD episodes were awful. Moffat episodes have been some of the best ever (including original series)
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -7/+23He looks scarily like my 14 year old cousin.
- memsom, on 01/03/2009, -1/+16"a while", probably infinity +1
- thekancer, on 01/04/2009, -0/+14I am thrilled that Russell T. Davies is leaving. The best stories from the new Doctor Who all came from other writers (i.e. Moffat). Take a look at the end of season 4. The episode was probably the weakest, in my opinion, out of the entire new series. RTD also really seems to fancy bringing back old enemies again and again and again. One of my favourite episodes is Blink, written by Moffat, which didn't use the same old formula / recycled enemies.
I am thrilled that RTD is gone and that Moffat is taking over. RTD seemed to want to push the show into, well, basically what Torchwood has become... a semi-sci-fi soap opera with an uncanny focus on bi-sexual promiscuity.
Seriously though... the season 4 finale and the Christmas special were disgustingly weak for Doctor Who. I would very much like RTD to step down immediately. :(
</nerd> - fuzzynyanko, on 01/03/2009, -2/+16That's actually the beauty of the show.
- KC9ECI, on 01/03/2009, -2/+16I'd have preferred David Morrissey or Sam Troughton but my money was on Jonas Armstrong. In any event, with Steven Moffat in control of things, no matter who was picked, we'd be in for good stories.
- retral, on 01/03/2009, -1/+14He prefers the term "Omnisexual"
- user24, on 01/03/2009, -0/+13Damn, I was really hoping for Bill Bailey.
shucks. - sadisticmind, on 01/03/2009, -2/+15*face palm*
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -1/+14He's great as McKay, but I don't know if he could pull off the Doctor.
- thekancer, on 01/04/2009, -1/+14Well, he's Scottish. Not his fault.
- wedoDigg, on 01/03/2009, -2/+14Hes been in Ruby in the smoke, the street, shadow in the north, party animals.. No Ive never heard of them neither, fingers crossed this was not a bad decision!
Long Live Dr Who! - aethelberga, on 01/03/2009, -9/+21Slightly underwhelming, as I hoped they were going to go with an older actor, but who can say. I'll settle for someone a little less bipolar than Tennant.
- suinmind, on 01/04/2009, -0/+12"Brilliant!"
It just proved that a great story doesn't have to involve sex or cost tens of millions. Hollywood, are you listening? - Zapple100, on 01/03/2009, -0/+12They should have gotten some old psychotic geezer to play the Doctor.
- raydeen, on 01/03/2009, -1/+13William Hartnell and John Pertwee certainly looked ~900 years old. Maybe the idea is that the Doctor is getting younger. Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann sort of destroy that theory though...
Oh well, I've never been disappointed with a Doctor yet. I even liked Colin Baker. Took a while to get used to though. - FikusErectus, on 01/04/2009, -0/+12Right now I would like to thank all the UK people for sharing Doctor Who via Bittorrent. It is pathetic that the BBC refuses to make Doctor Who available here in the USA the same week the show airs in the UK. Bittorrent has resolved that problem! As for the new Doctor and writers. I wish them luck. Doctor Who and Torchwood are my favorite shows. I'm a bit worried the show will go down with the new people involved.
