or John's whole speech:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yW7OPByRGDY&fmt ... - missjb, on 06/20/2009, -6/+96Did John just make a 'Revenge of the Nerds' reference in front of the President? Gimme' a sec, I gotta' pick my lol's up off the floor
- ripple123, on 06/20/2009, -2/+79that speech was the sort of pure win that needs to be magnetically suspended in a vacum chamber at 2 degrees above absolute zero,
- ownt790, on 06/20/2009, -1/+68And who can forget his knowledge of computer science:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4RRi_ntQc8 - method7670, on 06/20/2009, -1/+60That was great. Hodgman is such a brilliant writer.
- JoeMondo, on 06/20/2009, -4/+56Hodgman was brilliant.
(And I'm sure Obama knew "Crom" was the answer, though he pretended not to.) - judolphin, on 06/20/2009, -3/+52Oh my... after watching the video I think I like both Barack Obama and John Hodgman about 10 times more than I did before. And that's saying something!
- dmurphy04, on 06/20/2009, -3/+42Love the Vulcan salute! Way to go, Obama!
- Gleemonex, on 06/20/2009, -4/+38I know it was just a hypothetical question but if you're really curious it's because:
He ordered the closure of the Guantanamo Bay military prison and a troop withdrawal from Iraq
He made it easier for women to sue for job discrimination
He eased a ban on stem cell research
He extended healthcare coverage to millions of children
He ousted the head of General Motors
He reached out to the Muslim world
He moved to ease tensions with Cuba
He set aside huge tracts of wilderness for federal protection.
I could go on but you probably already stopped reading by now. - TigerStar337, on 06/20/2009, -8/+40I watched it live last night. John is funny. I most like the ending. He states, "The President and I may disagree on some issues, but we are still friends." This is very different philosophy than the Republicans where a person who doesn't agree with them is out of the party or their other mantra is if you don't like the Freedom Act, leave the country. I find it interesting how the Communist Chinese, the Fundamentalist Muslims and the Fundamentalist Christians agree on so many issues, but none of them like one another.
- method7670, on 06/20/2009, -5/+35I'm sorry, I didn't know John Hodgman having fun as a correspondents dinner was having a big veiny triumphant bastard for Obama.
Jesus, live a little, and stop drinking the water the GOP gives you, it is irradiated with bull *****. - andrewtheart, on 06/20/2009, -0/+29Whoever arbitrarily cut off the video at 8:55 was stupid ... here's the rest of it, starting at 8:55.
http://splicd.com/yW7OPByRGDY/535/844 - faizal5k, on 06/20/2009, -0/+20NNNNEERRDDDDDDSS!!!!!
- arsheroica, on 06/20/2009, -1/+20You mean where he said they were fun to be around, and exuded confidence? Yeah, that was a little rough.
- pintomp3, on 06/20/2009, -5/+23I can imagine the punishment for practicing Darwinism under a Palin or Paul administration.
- Peekman, on 06/20/2009, -1/+19You have an odd definition of 'tirade'....
- wakethefockup, on 06/20/2009, -1/+19Coolest nerd I ever saw.
- andyrunner, on 06/20/2009, -0/+17I had cheesy mac for lunch today
- buzznjackal, on 06/20/2009, -0/+17This was awesome, thanks for posting the full video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yW7OPByRGDY&fmt ... The full video is much better than the clip, the clip doesn't include my favorite part where John Hodgman is out of breath. Very funny, and what is great is that while most of the audience didn't get most of the jokes the president seemed to get all of it.
- twilightzone, on 06/20/2009, -0/+17Brilliant.
- TigerStar337, on 06/20/2009, -4/+20There are exceptions to the rule. A person can cherry-pick examples to debunk me. However, my point is about the overall philosophy of the group. Look at what the Republicans did to Meghan McCain. Apparently, she is not welcome in "their" party because her views on issues are not extreme enough.
The Republicans have put the "no" in innovation. - Mediaright, on 06/20/2009, -1/+16Actually, I wasn't insulted. Plus, he said he wasn't being biased or taking sides, he was just pointing out attributes of each side he was presenting. No hate there.
- rwiggum, on 06/20/2009, -0/+15You remember Palin or Paul? They opened up for Simon & Garfunkel back in '73.
- HTIZ, on 06/20/2009, -2/+15I do.
- letdowntourist, on 06/20/2009, -0/+12Nerd.
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 06/20/2009, -0/+12omg I ***** my pants.
btw what's the correct answer? Merge sort? - resnasty, on 06/20/2009, -2/+13I guess you didnt catch Mike Huckabee (R) on the Daily Show:
http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?vide ...
John and Mike disagree on many different issues.... but they are still friends/friendly
go figure...
FYI, this is not an endorsement for Mike Huckabee, or even John Stewart...
Point is... blanket statements suck! - DLun203, on 06/20/2009, -2/+13Wow...Hodgeman is good for more than just cheesy mac commericals.
Mac users, Bury Away! - SpectreFire, on 06/20/2009, -0/+9I don't think that word means what you think it means.
- wassamatta, on 06/20/2009, -3/+12When Nimoy eventually take his dirt nap, I for one will cry my ass off!
- teamgwho, on 06/20/2009, -2/+11As much as I enjoyed Colbert's rip of Bush and his admin at the press Corp dinner two years ago, it was at times cruel and employed cheap shots. Hodgeman's routine was self depricating humor at it's best. He got away with what would be low blows if anyone else did them (gangly frame? obviously prosthetic ears?) and yet it didn't feel cheap or nasty at all.
Proof that you don't need profanity to be funny. Nor does one need to resort to being cruel and nasty. (looking at you Wanda) - counterplex, on 06/20/2009, -0/+9Wow! Hodgeman knows his Dune! Respect!
- Mediaright, on 06/20/2009, -3/+12Staged, but still funny.
- Kyzzyxx, on 06/20/2009, -1/+9Nice right-wing response. Thank you for the stark comparison.
- ownt790, on 06/20/2009, -0/+8well in reality google just wants to see how you think. They want to see you discuss memory issues and use a lot of computer science theory(big-o, memory, etc) to explain the pros and cons of different sorting algorithms. yes, merge sort is probably a good answer though.
- 510dustmite, on 06/20/2009, -0/+8have no idea why they cut it short in that clip. very much worth watching in its entirety...
- Kyzzyxx, on 06/20/2009, -0/+8Uh, this was supposed to be comedy, not journalism
- MWeather, on 06/20/2009, -3/+10Palin or Paul? What do they have in common? Palin is a socially conservative liberal from socialist Alaska, Paul is ultra-conservative Texan who thinks the government should stay out of social issues.
They're as different as night and day. - ligyron, on 06/21/2009, -1/+8There's no correct answer. "Bubble sort would be the wrong way to go" is the shortest correct answer you can really give to that question. A nice little joke that makes implies that he's an experienced computer programmer
- shikaga, on 06/20/2009, -0/+7Would be my pick
- scottc, on 06/20/2009, -0/+6Who called the article "news" (other than you)? You missed the whole point of the dinner.
- acceleration, on 06/21/2009, -0/+6Isn't it the otherway round? The ads make the PC seem geeky/nerdy, and the Mac trendy.
- orion846, on 06/20/2009, -0/+6this independent wasn't insulted, you don't speak for me
- scotchw, on 06/20/2009, -2/+7There is a difference between geeks and nerds, and to you people I say "Shut up nerds!"
- PandaChi, on 06/20/2009, -0/+5If we're talking speed, since they're 32 bit integers you know the range of values. Just create an array large enough to represent each value and on iteration of the million ints increment the correct index. You can then go through that array and construct the sorted array. O(N) time.
This is for runtime efficiency. It's not clear whether the question cares about memory efficiency, too, where you might want to do something in place. On a desktop/laptop no prob - on a phone we'd care. - Khanvalescent, on 06/20/2009, -2/+7Can't name the Blackberry due to contractual obligations.
- ModernTenshi, on 06/20/2009, -0/+5Couldn't the same be said of Bush for different reasons?
Heaven forbid they bring in a comedian to offer some light hearted comedy to their night. I mean didn't Bush do something similar when he has an impersonator come up and mock him during a speech he gave at another banquet?
Settle down man. - pintomp3, on 06/21/2009, -1/+6@mweather They are both evolution denying religious fundamentalists. The main difference is Palin wants a theocracy at the federal level while Paul wants it at the state level.
- Rahaz, on 06/20/2009, -0/+4I ***** love John Hodgman.
Almost makes me feel guilty knowing I killed a guy in a game with his last name repeatedly. (If you know what game I'm talking about then I ***** love you too.) -
