- zenithmbr, on 08/16/2008, -13/+722It's sad when a comedian covers the headlines more completely and honestly than our supposed 'news' networks.
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -7/+389At least you know exactly where he stands; there is no facade with him. And yes, he is usually more accurate then the "unbiased" mainstream press.
- dsmx, on 08/16/2008, -5/+198Give it a few more years and the daily show will be the most trusted news source in America, not because it's reporting is getting better but because all the news networks reporting standards are dropping.
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -11/+182IMHO, yes Jon Stewart is the most trusted man in America, because he gives the stories as they occur and doesn't twist them like fox news or cnn.
- spookyttws, on 08/16/2008, -8/+137And before we into the left wing right wing bias argument, Stewart has stated that they make fun of those in power acting ridiculously and worthy of being mocked. It just so happens that the White House has been republican for the last eight years. If Obama get's elected (*crosses fingers*) they'll rack him over the coals as well. And to be fail, Stewart is more of a left leaning Independent than a Democrat.
- PseudoThink, on 08/16/2008, -7/+120Maybe he's not the most trusted man in America, but he probably is on Digg.
By the way, if you think this says something bad about Diggers, you're mistaken. Some like to dismiss Digg as a bunch of trend following, Ron Paul groupies lacking capacity for critical analysis. Those people underestimate the crowds of us who lurk, quietly filtering through the flame wars and fan boys, using others' thoughtful comments to help elucidate important points and shape our own opinions. - perhapsimcrazy, on 08/16/2008, -1/+95This is why I trust Jon Stewart, and have watched his show almost every night since.

-Family Guy - Bith8654, on 08/16/2008, -2/+95Unless he twists them for comedy, in which case he usually makes it clear twisting is going on.
- MrSalty, on 08/16/2008, -1/+89It might be worth noting that he is already making fun of Obama, as well as Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and other Democrats. And some of us are old enough to remember "The Daily Show" going after the Clinton administration pretty relentlessly.
It doesn't matter whether Stewart is liberal or conservative. He goes after idiots in either party. - atlquaker, on 08/16/2008, -7/+92Of course John Stewart is the most trusted; the alternatives are Fox News, CNN, and Katie Couric.
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -4/+79You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. Liberalism is a political philosophy founded based on the notion that the rights of the individual come before the rights of the state. Yes, there is a wide range of views on liberalism, as it runs the gamut from socialism to libertarianism, but the fundamental concept strikes at the very heart of what our founding fathers were fighting for.
- CH3CH2OH, on 08/16/2008, -3/+77Here's Jon Stewart's touching speech after the 9/11 attacks:
http://sjhoward.co.uk/archive/2006/06/10/jon-stewa ... - inactive, on 08/16/2008, -4/+71lol, you misspelled "fair" as "fail".
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -4/+69If he ever ran for office I would totally vote for him.
Kinda like in that Robin Williams movie that was so obviously about Jon Stewart. - MrZaiko, on 08/16/2008, -1/+64"We have a ***** rocket... Does CNN have a ***** rocket?"
- SimianSamurai, on 08/16/2008, -2/+64What's also sad is that it takes such a comedian to expose the ridiculousness of other sham news shows. Remember Crossfire?
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -7/+68Well, let's face it - investigative journalism is dead in this country. It's not that Jon Stewart is a particularly good investigative journalist - he's just one of the few people in the biz who actually bothers to fact check and verify stories, rather than spitting out talking points.
- Yetisquatch, on 08/16/2008, -1/+52The best thing that The Daily Show accomplishes is pointing out out how simply moronic, hypocritical, and biased the talking heads (aka. rest of the media) are. The montages that are put together almost nightly showing the media using that days "talking points" is hysterical and sad. Same goes for the montages of Bush, Cheney, and every other political head showing how they all double speak and lie their asses off. Its amazing that in this age when everything is recorded, these ***** still are able to say one thing and then months later deny ever saying it..... and get away with it.
- Stavrosian, on 08/16/2008, -1/+36He's biased towards what I think though, so it doesn't count.
- macaca, on 08/16/2008, -0/+34Thanks for sharing this clip. Seriously.
- gcsmit6, on 08/16/2008, -0/+33The current state of the media and the government is a joke right now so its only suitable that he's the most trusted name in news. I think I heard him say one time "this is easy, I literally read headlines and everyone laughs". Something to that extent.
- Rotzooi, on 08/16/2008, -7/+40Untrue. Colbert is, and he has often said he does have an agenda. Stewart however is a registered independent. For some extreme right wingers he might seem to be 'librul', but that's just how the real world rolls nowadays, hillbillies.
- Jeremyz0r, on 08/16/2008, -2/+35He still twists the story (probably to cover his ass), but as long as you're 5 years old and understand sarcasm. (that's about where the bar for Bush is) You'll understand completely.
- zombies187, on 08/16/2008, -1/+30His stuff is more about mocking the media coverage of news. Sure the meat is in jokes at the expense of politicos who earn it, but the real message is about the media.
- OomBok, on 08/16/2008, -0/+28It's like medieval times where the king would keep a jester around to give him the straight truth under the guise of jest. I'd love to see what America would look like if they implemented the ideas of people like Stewart (or fallen heroes like Bill Hicks/George Carlin, God bless 'em) just for a day.
- bruce86, on 08/16/2008, -3/+29What is also even more sad is Tucker Carlson is still being given air time as a political commentator after the cross fire incident.
- cheezintern, on 08/16/2008, -2/+28I'd totally vote for him. He couldn't possibly be any worse than any of the career politicians.
- p106peppy, on 08/16/2008, -32/+57How did Dan Rather make the list?
- EtherGnat, on 08/16/2008, -2/+27I really enjoy some of Olbermann's rants, but he's like a mirror image of Bill O'Reilly in too many ways. I certainly wouldn't trust him to be non-partisan.
- cheezintern, on 08/16/2008, -5/+30...and people who are too intelligent for faux news and the like.
- darkphenox, on 08/16/2008, -3/+27I notice when he "nails" some of his guests he trys to quickly joke about it and make them seem right, I guess its just so he could keep having guests that are political authors.
- tyleredw, on 08/16/2008, -0/+24It's really not that liberal. I'll give you a slight left lean, perhaps, but if anything, the show just mocks absurdity in politics and the media. Just because the current administration is Republican, its easy to write off The Daily Show as liberal, since most of the absurdity in politics comes from the Bush Administration, making it a huge target for satire. This hasn't stopped Jon from mocking Obama during recent times, or the Clinton Administration years ago. I guarantee you, if Obama is elected president, The Daily Show will point out every hypocritical, absurd statement and policy they create just like they did for Bush.
- Nateon, on 08/16/2008, -2/+26All of a sudden I have an urge to watch the Daily Show. hmm.
- iChaz, on 08/16/2008, -0/+23I knew the day would come in American where the comedian, the satirist, would be the most honest of all the modern day names in politics and news. we're lucky to have Jon Stewart to provide us with laughs, the truth, and no tainted modern american *****. rock on, jon.
- evilcaptain, on 08/16/2008, -1/+24He's implying that the regular MSM ignores the obvious. The first time some of these topics are even told to the public is on the Daily Show!
- jon30041, on 08/16/2008, -0/+22I'd never seen that clip... And I can't imagine why no one else in the country picked up on these words, ran with them, and rallied our nation around hope instead of rage: We have already won.
My face was leaking a bit... Need to solder the tear ducts closed again. - Epistaxis, on 08/16/2008, -1/+23I think it's more anti-establishment than liberal. Maybe libertarian. But what do you expect out of satire?
- bobbarkerbilly, on 08/16/2008, -1/+22Court jester?
- AeroMerde, on 08/16/2008, -3/+23I've always found Jon Stewart funny and unbiased. He makes fun of everyone. When the president is Republican you're going to see him making fun of that side more.
I think anyone, regardless of their politics, can like Stewart if they don't take themselves too seriously. - tito13kfm, on 08/17/2008, -0/+20So did Monica Lewinski
http://www.instantrimshot.com - DyceFreak, on 08/16/2008, -1/+21Just because he is biased, doesn't make him wrong, or the people he ridicules right. His satire is more true than their fallacies, therefor he deserves more trust than them.
- WheezyMustafa, on 08/16/2008, -1/+20I certainly listen to him -- it's hard to watch CNN or FOX now without realizing how much bull ***** most of it is.
- fuzzynyanko, on 08/16/2008, -2/+20The current President is a really easy target. There's been a decent amount of scandals in the Republican party, so I can see why they are being seen as anti-conservative.
However, I saw some things against Obama and Pelosi the other day as well. I also remember a good share of Clinton bashing before Bush was in office, especially when he did something that contradicted himself or matched something in history. - austinshea, on 08/16/2008, -0/+18"Because you butchered it" is not a sentence.
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -2/+20Sometimes Diggers post photos of their testicles on /b/.
- migshark, on 08/16/2008, -3/+20Sometimes it's the 'only' way to address certain headlines. It's unfortunate, but if you have a deadly-serious news reader take the piss; it catches them off guard and they have to go through this process:http://icanhascheezburger.files.wordpress.com/2008 ...
It's the same in Australia, we have Paul McDermott on Good News Week. - P8triot1, on 08/16/2008, -6/+23If you want the full story of "cable news" and the corruption of Corporate Media, read "Cable News Confidential" by Jeff Cohen. We need to be aware and start acting on what we know. Our freedoms, health, and safety are at stake
- GenerousLinus, on 08/16/2008, -0/+17As is my right.
- TopherT, on 08/16/2008, -1/+17Frontline on PBS. Amazing stories, pitch perfect and well backed by real investigation.
