- yetAnotherCroc, on 07/01/2008, -1/+113He did not die. He ascended.
- guy123thor, on 06/30/2008, -1/+80such tragic news. Will be hard watching the upcoming Stargate movies he is in.
- inactive, on 07/01/2008, -1/+61Wow, shocking... was hoping to see him play Gen. Hammond again....
R.I.P. Don - Coolone84, on 07/01/2008, -0/+59This guy was an amazing actor. I loved the work he did in SG-1. None of his replacements came near to doing as well as he did when he was playing the SGC Commander.
Don't get me wrong, Richard Dean Anderson did an awesome job in his role, but he didn't make a very good general. - tundrabob, on 07/01/2008, -1/+32He will be missed.
Beyond being a good actor he was a good artist too. http://www.donsdavisart.com/index.php - IceHunter, on 07/01/2008, -0/+31Yes, les hope Hammond of Texas ascended.
- Yovonne, on 07/01/2008, -0/+29Mr. Don S. Davis was one of the rare individuals who was even greater than the heroic character he played as an actor. He made General George Hammond the kind of leader that any soldier, sailor, airman, marine or coastie would consider themselves blessed to have had as their commanding officer. He was also an amazingly talented artist and a great human being who will be sorely missed by everyone who had the honor and privilege to meet him.
Godspeed Mr. Davis, and Brightest Blessings to your loved ones and friends. Your fans will miss you dearly. - insomniac8400, on 07/01/2008, -1/+24Heart attack trifecta complete? Tim Russert, George Carlin, and now Don S. Davis.
- ThreeTima, on 07/01/2008, -0/+20Don Davis, a man, myth, a legend. and He will be missed. I've been an avid fan of many of his projects and/or roles. My Favorite being that Of Stargate SG-1.
People of the Sci-Fi world, no, ALL people of the world.... mourn the loss of a great artist, both in acting and on canvas. - Zorkon, on 06/30/2008, -2/+21Aw crap.
- eclectro, on 07/01/2008, -1/+19Loved the character, loved the man. There needs to be a stargate episode where he ascends. He was critical to what SG1 was on screen.
Rest in peace Don. - leeman15251, on 06/30/2008, -2/+20so sad
- MacEnvy, on 07/02/2008, -0/+18RIP, Hammond Of Texas.
/Bra'tac - faithhammer, on 07/02/2008, -0/+17George Carlin was bad enough, now George Hammond? Ugh, 2008 has been so depressing! RIP Don S. Davis. You helped make Stargate SG-1 what it is. Thank you.
- Pottypotsworth, on 07/01/2008, -0/+16Where are the damn Tokra when you need them? Good bye Sweet Prince :o(
- geneticlemon, on 07/01/2008, -0/+15The show was never the same after he left, but at least he got to spend some time with his family before his passing. We, at SG Command, salute you, General Hammond!
- greenvortex, on 07/01/2008, -0/+14He always seemed to play the military honcho who was privy to UFO secrets. I'll always remember him as Bobby Briggs' super-strict Air Force dad in Twin Peaks.
- Shogi, on 07/01/2008, -0/+14Damn that really sucks. I always enjoyed his occasional cameos in SG-1 after his character was (basically) written out. Hard to imagine what the show would have been like without him.
- crutchfieldj, on 07/02/2008, -0/+13Godspeed.
- cjacks9, on 07/01/2008, -0/+13May he Rest in Peace.
I did always think he looked like Pete from MacGyver. Lo and behold, he was a stunt double for the man. - JustAn0th3rFace, on 07/01/2008, -0/+12He played Hammond very well in SG-1. Sad news
- Konrad9, on 07/02/2008, -0/+12Completely untrue. He left because of health reasons, and even tried to let the writers replace him with RDA before season 8 due to Rick's schedule.
He was an incredibly kind man, and always made a point to ask everyone how they were doing.
He will be missed, but not forgotten. - socalslaker, on 07/02/2008, -0/+12None better then Hammond of Texas
- SwordFish666, on 07/02/2008, -0/+12He is appearing in the Stargate:Continuum....
So you'll see him once more... - okbobby, on 07/01/2008, -0/+12Scully's dad in the X-Files (2 episodes). Kind of creepy, he dies in "Beyond the Sea". Scully awakens from a nap after her parents left a few hours before and sees her dad ,sitting in a chair across the room, talking but not making a sound. Scully tries to make out what he is saying then the phone rings and she turns away. Looking back, he has disappeared. Upon answering the phone, she finds out her father passed away just recently.
- curtisag, on 07/01/2008, -0/+11Wow this really sucks right after Carlin died. Talk about a double punch in the gut...
- drex8, on 07/02/2008, -1/+12"Indeed!" ..I would imagine as Tealc saying.
"Hammond of Texas" as he was greeted fondly and reverely by Bratac, was a commanding presence on the screen as General. The current base commander Landry played by Beau Bridges, comes off sounding more like a humbug. I have heard rumors that Don and Anderson had some friction on the SG-1 set in later years, more like a tiff off, which led to Don's removal as playing the Commander.
He was a damn fine actor, and his sudden demise leaves us all missing.
I'd like to think, that he stepped through the Stargate to a better place. GodSpeed Don, in your journey after life. - LoreleileeLong, on 07/01/2008, -0/+10RIP Don. May you pass through the great Stargate in the sky.
- chadwalters23, on 07/01/2008, -0/+10Yup. That should do it. Unless you were counting Mondavi. I was betting on Amy Winehouse.
Anyway, moment of silence for General Hammond. Loved that guy. - realillusions, on 07/02/2008, -0/+10Hammond of Texas, you will be missed.
- willij, on 07/01/2008, -0/+10This is very sad.
- genconkeeper, on 07/02/2008, -0/+9I met him at Gen Con a few years ago he was gracious and kind. The type of guy you wouldn't mind hangin out with and having a beer with.
- ncc74656m, on 07/02/2008, -0/+9Don,
Rest in peace, and may your journey through the gate be swift and safe. May the Ancients keep you company until we can join you at the Alpha Site. We will miss you here on Earth! - allout360, on 07/01/2008, -0/+9Very true. I plan to pre-order the new ones. He will be missed.
Everyone please do make a donation to the American Heart Association. I know I will. - zoomtechtv, on 07/02/2008, -0/+8I loved him on Stargate.
- inactive, on 07/02/2008, -0/+8I never saw SG-1, but I liked him in Twin Peaks. RIP.
- evilgreenmonkey, on 07/01/2008, -1/+9I'm glad that he finished filming on the last SG1 movie before passing away - a high point in his career but such a tragic loss.
- SwordFish666, on 07/02/2008, -0/+7Awwww, one of my favorite characters in Stargate series :(
- Rotzooi, on 07/01/2008, -0/+6I just started the 4th season DVDs of SG-1. Hammond Of Texas will be missed, but not for a long long time yet!
- drjekelmrhyde, on 07/01/2008, -0/+6R.I.P Sir
- inactive, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6He didn't play General Hammond, he WAS General Hammond. He took the script and made it his own, so instead of the usual hard-headed general, he was a kind and understanding general. He played in 3 of my top 5 favorite shows: Stargate SG-1, Twin Peaks and X-Files. He was one of those guys you wanted to meet because you knew he'd be an awesome guy in real life. He will be greatly missed.
- tehmark, on 07/02/2008, -0/+665 is too early to go. condolences to his family. he really gave the show a warm feeling and will be missed
- Tyrghast, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6SG-1 wouldn't have been the same without him.
- Ratteler, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6What a loss. If Sci-Fi channel has ANY class, they'll do some "In memory of..." PSA's spots.
Besides Hammond of Texas, he was Scully's dad in X-Files, and he returned from the Black lodge in Twin Peaks.
That alone earns him a place in Sci-Fi history. - briansearles, on 07/02/2008, -1/+7If I could digg somebody up a thousand times..
- yetAnotherCroc, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5would that be a comment by theCroc on reddit? Cause thats my account
- thad19, on 07/02/2008, -1/+6I'm not really a fan of SG but he was great in Twin Peaks. R.I.P.
- inactive, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5you'd have discovered a bug in digg.
