Maybe it's 'cause that guy is pretty annoying, or maybe it's because I live in Britain where all I'm allowed to do if someone breaks into my house is phone the police so they can come round and setup a crime scene for the triple homicide of my family members.
There have been numerous times I've heard a noise that sounded like it was coming from downstairs, and if it really was someone one time and I phoned the police and this happened... I or my wife is to get her, and we all go into the small walk in closet(furthest point from the front door) and call the police. However we do have a slight advantage as you pointed out is that all you can do is call the police. I have a shotgun, loaded(no rounds in the chamber and no my daughter cannot reach it at 6' I barely can).
doing some quick searches I found that you can apply for a shotgun license. I prefer them for home defense as it has two distinct advantages to handguns and rifles.
1. The rounds do not travel as far, yes a slug does and even 00 Buck can but a Goose round should do fine. Plus I am guessing you don't shoot much and a wide spread round would be best.
2. Get a pump action (Mossberg 590 is nice, holds a lot of rounds)because the sound of you putting a round in the chamber is known to almost everyone and is a deterrent.

It has some really funny moments but it loses points for being, really, a collection of skits (disguised as flashbacks or what not). And the jokes miss way too much. Compare that to, say, the older Simpsons episodes or the South Park classics.
EDIT: As for this clip... I still find it hilarious, although maybe that's just because I didn't race out, buy the box sets, watch every episode ten times and masturbate aggressively over them.

The law here is rather that you should get what is coming if your house is broken into (including death and rape) so that the police have someone that they can catch and put in prison for 6 months (or send to Florida if they are under 18; you know, to reform them). -
