- awa1ct, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38PLEASE I hope to god that they find somewhere else for it to go.
- MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30Puppet Walter: "Chevron 1 lit up....Chevron 7 is also, lit up...."
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Walter rules!!! I'm glad he was finally in the 200th episode. And the Team America salute was classic. I had tears in my eyes.
the 200th episode didn't just jump the shark, it turned around and kicked the shark in the nuts! - syberghost, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Oh like any of US were going anywhere on Friday night.
- frozensun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15RDA left because he wanted to spend time with his daughter
- Anubis2051, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I REALY hope that they wind up on the silver screen (RDA said he would come back for that), and then spin the movie off into a similar series, with a new name, Stargate Command, that way the focus can be less on SG-1 and more on the command as a whole. Hell, maybe Walter can even become a regular.
- MikeSD34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Yay Walter!
"Chevron 7 is... engaged? Chevron... 8... is locked....." - ZenFu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Dammit! I live in the UK otherwise i'd be watching this live every week.
Someone needs to make MGM aware of download statistics for this show.
If MGM added ads into SG-1 eps and offered them via torrent direct from the MGM website, i'd download them in an instant. It's definitely worth having to endure 15 mins of ads if it means SG1 lives on.
Plus this offers MGM some alternate revenue until they can find another tv channel to host stargate.
If it doesn't work out and SG-1 is cancelled permanently, they should do a LOTR type trilogy. 3 two-hour movies to really wrap up the storyline with the ori and the ancients. - Ruckgesicht, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11TechTV, Farscape, SG1... Telemarketing is still as strong as ever while all the good stuff gets cancelled. Television sucks these days.
- JC4P, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12FOX already puts re-runs of SG1 and Atlantis on, and some other channels do too. Maybe they'll get a contract with them.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Stargate is, hands down, the best Sci-Fi series ever made.
- grunherz5x5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The same FOX that killed Firefly?
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Unfortunately, purchasing TV shows via iTunes is not available for users outside the US.
- billmccartney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Eureka is an interesting new show (I like it), but it hasn't really shown it has staying power yet... and I can't argue with BSG
BUT
the series has lost some steam, but it is sure better than 90% of the crap on the sci-fi channel... who wants to be a superhero?? wrestling?? deadlikeme reruns (I saw 'em on showtime)??
Plus I think they have opened a new can of worms (with the ori and new cast members) which could take the show in a new direction... - MuffinMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I think they cancelled that.
- smedrick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9If they want us to watch it live, they'd better find another time slot. You can't expect a steady audience on a Friday night.
- Yez70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I cannot believe this crap. What kind of idiots run this company?
Sci-Fi still doesn't offer an HD channel.
Sci-Fi is now showing WRESTLING?! I understand the fiction part, but I don't see any science here... (I smelled doom when it first started airing wrestling)
The parent company also cancelled Surface (NBC), another decent sci-fi show.
Scence Fiction programming is harder and harder to come by nowadays and I, as well as millions of others, supported, watched and promoted it to our friends. Yes, many of us are more technologically inclined and may TIVO the shows, but we still watch them.
I really hope Showtime picks it back up - it was worth paying to watch it.... - straxus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I get really tired of this geeks have no life schtick. So, if you have a wife, kid, good paying job with good benefits, expendable income, but prefer watching SciFi at home than at the theater, or prefer a game of Day of Defeat to hitting a club, then you have no life.
Actually, I have a quite fulfilling life. And I wager many of you who claim you have no life because you stay home Friday nights do too. Twenty years ago geeks were the outcasts. That's changed. We run ***** now, and wonder of wonders, being geeky is now actually attractive to certain members of the opposite sex. Can we please drop this no life facade now? - velo2k77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yay, I hope they can pass the torch and keep things going somehow. I look forward to those new episodes each Friday night. Season 9 wasn't one of my favorites, but I once I adjusted to the switch to Claudia Black, Ben Browder and the ORI, I started enjoying the show again.
- pandaura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yeah, I hate how channels increase the volumn when commercials are on.
- Trkstr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yeah the show is awesome. I was one of few that enjoyed the 9th season and am now thoroughly enjoying the 10th.
The improved ratings on 200 hopefully might see some other channel see the light of the gate. - sei0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7If they stop making stargate, I will stop watching television. Simple as that. What else is there to watch? Will & Grace?
- infra172, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's been cancelled a few times before. The ratings go up and the show is saved.
- BlackCow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Please god just dont let it go to G4.
- weneedsound, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'd probably watch it live if SciFi didn't turn up their commercial volume x2.
- Hermitwise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Not really because Firefly was cancelled before it even had a chance, it was an injustice. While I like Stargate, the idea of it being cancelled after 10 seasons isn't all that outrageous to me. Plus Richard Dean Anderson made the show in my opinion.
- syberghost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7SG-1 is the longest-running American SF series of all time, and they just renewed the spinoff for a 4th season. This is like Firefly exactly how? Well, I guess since it's gonna have Morena Baccarin this season, there's one point. Got another?
- rednekbrh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I am really hoping what happend towards the beginning of the series happens now, SG-1 used to be a showtime show and then sci-fi picked it up, i am hoping someone else steps up to the plate to keep it going. I am pretty sure that there is a movie in the works since at the end of episode 200 marty gets a phone call and announces the movie is back on.
- Kajico, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That's the problem, they can't track TV RIps and DVRs because TV rips don't matter to advertisers because the commercials are cut and people fast forward through commercials on DVRs. Ultimatley it is the advertisers that have the final say, and if the show isn't pulling enough ratings to attract advertisers then they are pulled.
Why Farscape was canceled? Because it cost more money than was being generated by advertisers because it had to compete Friday nights with other overly hyped but ultimatley sucky shows airing on other stations.
It's not about how much the show is enjoyed, it's about how much marketing revenue the show generates.
They could care less if you love it, they only want to know if you are tuning in to watch it at that time slot, so they can pass a 30 second advert in front of your eyes. - frosted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yes, let's have another movie, it did wonders for Firefly, Lost in Space, Coneheads, Bewitched, Startrek, Scoobydoo, The Adams Family, The Brady Bunch, Charlie's Angels, Mission Impossible, Josie and the Pussycats, The Flintstones, Wild Wild West, Maverick, Mod Squad, Dukes of Hazzard, and so many more. Brought them all back it did.
Get real. NO MOVIE!
Move the show to CW and watch it die, move it to Fox and watch product placement take over, (at least the Simpson's references will work better there), move it to CBS and watch the cast change AGAIN so that they have more elderly people in important rolls, Move it to NBC and watch the ORI angle get dropped due to religious objections, Move it to ABC and watch Stargate turn into a "family Disney" adventure comedy where no one ever gets hurt or killed. I say move it back to Showtime. - Ruckgesicht, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7""Eureka is a new series moron.
What the heck is Eureka's Castle?""
So you don't know what I was referring to, but you called me a moron anyway. Classic.
Eureka's Castle was a kids show on Nickelodeon many a year ago. In other words, it was a joke. As always I have to spell it out, but thats digg for you. - Tr176, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5... i'm crying
Get as many people to digg this story so it can be the number 1 and when Alex and Kevin read it on diggnation we need them to call out to the fans and say watch SG-1 and we will get our beloved show back!
R.I.P. Jack O'Neill - Darthmalt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Heh I turned a computer into a dvr just SO I could still watch stargate and BSG and still go out.
- CharlieXray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Does anyone know Mark Cuban's email address? This would be great in High Def!
- mcvetyty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Does anyone know how actual ratings are calculated? This article makes an interesting point in the end about watching the shows "Live".. I never watch anything live. Even if I was able to, I usually do nothing purposefully for 15 minutes and then I watch the recorded show just so I dont have to watch commercials..
So is this article implying that people wth DVR's do not factor into ratings?! If so then we need to get out of the stoneage.... - baloniaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5why cancel a show that is still entertaining and has an audience? I get that its ten seasons and most shows only last seven or maybe eight, but if there's still a want for the show, why not keep it going and break tradition?
- Vagari, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Do they still base things on Nielsen ratings? I always thought that was a demented thing to do. They'd have a much better statistical sample if they based it on more than a handful of people with a stupid Nielsen box.
Anyone know how to get us all signed up?
Or maybe a digg user could develop a hack to turn the boxes all to a certain channel. "Look Show X has 90% of viewers!" - seppie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah, Gotta love RDA... I hope he'll do more guest appearances this season!
- BlackCow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5They should go online! Make the shows free and have it ad-based or something. And like sell stuff for money. Maby.....
- doodlebumm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5SciFi channel is the network which SHOULD be showing SG-1. What gives? Are their financials in the toilet so they can't afford the actor's salaries anymore? I have really enjoyed the series and I NEVER miss an episode. It is the best thing that the channel has to offer. Yes, I like Atlantis, too, but only because of the original SG-1 series. How can they have anymore cross-overs if they are not on the same channel? Like they did the Buffy/Angel cross-overs after Buffy changed networks?
Come on SciFi! Keep the series alive!!!! - ZenFu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Ironic and sad isn't it?
They could have ended the show perfectly after the eps "Lost City pt 1&2" and gone straight to SGA but sci-fi cancels it now, in the middle of the Ori war.
The SG crew musta known this was coming though. Look at all the references in the 200th ep to cancelling shows and making movies. I'm guessing 200 was their way of saying goodbye.
I really do hope Stargate finds a way to continue. But if not, then it should at least go out gracefully. - kyriakos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Unfortunately thats how its done all over the world. Only with on-demand tv and IP based TV streams you can have real numbers of viewers for different channel/shows.
- blacklilyninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I used to watch Walter when he was in Vancouver theater sports in the West End. He did a marvelous singing captain Kirk.
such a funny man. - WassamattaU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I vote for moving it to HDNET so it will be shown in HD. Showtime would work, too.
- pcheaven2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3cuban@hd.net
- seppie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If I would be able to buy them through iTunes, even though I HATE the drm, I would, cause stargate is worth all my money... But since I live in a country where they have the most awefull channel programming scheme(re-airing old stargate episodes, still stuck around season 7), I just HAVE to torrent them. Sorry cooper! I did bought the 7 season dvd box though :) hope you still love me cooper.... hehehehe...
- cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This could be a show that could be supported solely through iTunes downloads and DVD sales.
- bigj5150, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No, the Treks did it. Until Voyager they were syndicated. TNG and DS9 had crossovers.
and what the hell is "Battleship"? do you mean Battlestar? - kirghizstan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4StarGate is one of the best shows on TV. I finally think they are starting to work the Ori in the right direction and now SciFi wants to drop it. Come on it is a Friday so ratings aren't going to be amazing. Why is it that channels have great lineups then they go messing around with them. Battleship, SG-1, Atlantis was the best lineup of any channel on Friday nights, but they had to screw it up. Also, the last couple years they advertised their Friday lineup like crazy, but nothing this year.
Here is a question though, what happens if someone else picks up SG-1 and SciFi still has Atlantis, do the shows from that point on cease to coexist, meaning no more crossovers? - PYREX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i wouldnt mind it coming to iTunes. maybe a buck a show and you can download it in 720p or 1080p. SG-1 in 1080p, that would be the sh*t right there.
