- canewediggit, on 04/09/2008, -2/+30sweet. i don't understand why more sites aren't building for the wii. seems like every site wants to make an iphone version, but ignores the wii, which has how many more million owners world-wide?
content creators/distributors have a huge opportunity w/ the wii's browser, i wish more of them would work w/ nintendo and vice-versa. - steviebaby, on 04/09/2008, -4/+20Good news. It will encourage me to use my Wii more often. I'd dearly like to see more channels like this. The Wii is lagging behind in taking advantage of its online opportunities, which is hard to understand.
- nads, on 04/09/2008, -0/+13Now this is worthy of being a channel on the Wii. Apart from Opera the rest of the channels are of poor quality. Well Done BBC and Nintendo.
- DarkwingDuck, on 04/09/2008, -2/+13Excellent news, I have been enjoying being able to use iPlayer on my iPod Touch at work (shhhhh). This pushes it from strength to strength.
- nads, on 04/09/2008, -0/+11I don't understand why the ISPs are demanding money from the BBC. Do they demand money from Microsoft, Apple or Ubuntu when we download their patches or ISOs? Are pleaing at GoogleYoutubes' door?
- inactive, on 04/09/2008, -0/+7It wasn't possible before today on Wii because the version of Flash which Wii has installed was not compatible with iPlayer until today.
So I call ***** on your "i've been doing this for a while now comment". Feel the red thumbs. - Paddy1, on 04/09/2008, -0/+6Yeah its just a UK thing. Its funded from the licence fee so it isnt available to people outwith the UK. Thats why the BBC website has adverts when accesing it from outside the UK
- tre101, on 04/09/2008, -1/+7Good news, an easy way to have iplayer on your TV.
The isp's are going to hate it though, they can't cope with demand as it is. - SSUK, on 04/09/2008, -0/+5So Sith emperors play the Wii too?
- malcam, on 04/09/2008, -0/+5BBC are the skapegoat for ISP mistakes of the past. BBC had better not give up or every website will have to pay a consumer ISP bill on top of their own server connection...
- canewediggit, on 04/09/2008, -1/+6only thing i use the wii for online is when someone digs up a full movie on google video. i'd kill for netflix's view it now stuff to work, or the nba's league pass broadband, or hulu, or stage6 when it i existed, or any of the tvlinks replacements, etc.
- insertAliasHere, on 04/09/2008, -0/+5Wow, you have a digg stalker...that's kinda creepy.
- RetepNamenots, on 04/09/2008, -0/+4I wish we'd get sites like the south park, I wish we'd get Apple TV content, I wish we'd get Xbox 360 Video Marketplace content... (the list is endless)
Oh, and not have to pay three times what you do for it. - Spytap, on 04/09/2008, -0/+4To a certain degree that's what "Net Neutrality" is all about.
- TonyKay, on 04/09/2008, -0/+4How about iplayer for international viewers?
- inactive, on 04/09/2008, -1/+5Pay him no attention. I have him blocked, due to being a douche 9/11 dufus. He is desperate for attention, so he runs around to all my posts, hoping someday I will acknowledge him.
Really, really pathetic. - supermanred, on 04/09/2008, -1/+4For those of us in Canada, we just need Hulu to work.
Aww ***** it, pirate bay works. - Picer, on 04/09/2008, -0/+3If only all media companies were this in touch, being a brit we will definitely get but will the rest of the world?
I know americans who say they would happily pay for top-gear but the BBC does not allow them to do so maybe if they made a bit of profit selling their programs to foreigners percha they could make more good shows, the BBC produces some real gems like topgear, panorama and their documentaries but some of their other programs are ***** doctor who is so bad it looks like a parody. - kimondo, on 04/09/2008, -0/+3cool! I can't view iplayer full screen (I have an ancient computer) so blowing it up on the Wii will be perfect!
- WorldGroove, on 04/09/2008, -1/+4Evidence about him & his son?
- mysterychips, on 04/09/2008, -0/+3You don't own the BBC or the programmes it makes. Do you think the BBC would get the required rights to put programmes on iPlayer if those programmes weren't adequately protected by DRM? Get real.
- diggymow, on 04/09/2008, -1/+3Awesome, the browser on the wii is excellent I don't know why people don't make more use of it.
- logicalnoise, on 04/09/2008, -0/+2still region coded I assume
- rand21althor, on 04/09/2008, -1/+3Does this mean I'll be able watch all the Doctor Who and Torchwood content on the Wii, then?
- mysterychips, on 04/09/2008, -1/+3Correct spelling FTW!
- inactive, on 04/09/2008, -1/+3i wish we'd get that in the US :(
- mlvassallo, on 04/09/2008, -0/+2That sucks, I'd love to have the BBC iPlayer :*(
- kinstray, on 04/09/2008, -0/+2Probably not, I don't think the iPlayer itself works outside of the UK... or is supposed to...
- DerGeist, on 04/09/2008, -0/+2Come one, come all! Ye Olde Tyme Programmes, only 99ยข!
- vertexoflife, on 04/09/2008, -0/+2Adblock plus! =)
- irgeorge, on 04/09/2008, -0/+2It feels good to have something Americans can't get for once.
- poohat1000, on 04/09/2008, -1/+3yeah, i lied. oops
- irgeorge, on 04/09/2008, -0/+2Prioritising Wii over Linux makes sense, larger audience and a more interesting distribution channel. Also the iPlayer service on Linux is just the same as on OS X. Until they find an alternative to Windows Media DRM, it isn't going to change.
- inactive, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Jesus Christ - they have already said they are going to develop it for PS3 you impatient *****.
- inactive, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Its in beta. Stop whining.
- upyourego, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1It will be supported - eventually - if you read the BBC Internet Blog post by Ashley Highfield - you'll see that it's a phased release - first Windows Download, then streaming for all computer platforms, then iPod Touch and iPhone - now the Wii and I'm sure next will be all Windows Mobile browsers followed by PS3 and XBox 360 - there are also plans for an Apple TV version that will make use of the rental model.
It's all about patience my friend - patience! - mrgreen4242, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1Netflix needs to make a Wii channel for their on demand content...
- humperdeath, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1I was watching Dancing with the stars last night on my 37" digital A/V receiver with satellite streamed programming. This was tuned to the local ABC affiliate, and beamed into my living room. Then I used an I.R. remote control to switch over to local news, and, oh boy, listen to this, there was a news cast delivering breaking news IN REAL TIME! I was seeing this moving pictures in color and stereo sound right as ti was happening. WOW. What is next, such high tech!
- inactive, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Of course not.
- Sirlolalot, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1Going to? The argument has already started, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7336940.stm
- csm888, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1As part owner I can't take items from the BBC, as I would be stealing from the other owners. (the rest of the public).
Anyway we are going nowehere with this... I think we both understand what the other is driving at. - logicalnoise, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1yeah and we get ***** edited out to allow for more commercials. No thanks I'll just BT top gear for now.
- malcam, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1That's because the BBC has faced pressure from management and politicians over the years to outsource practically everything they did themselves. Means a lot of the stuff they buy isn't their own any more.
- Evari, on 04/09/2008, -1/+2I think there are way more people with a wii than a linux box. I think the BBC has its priorities right.
- Evari, on 04/09/2008, -1/+2well its uk only anyway so dont worry about it
- nirav72, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1For Hulu to work, Opera/Adobe will have to release Flash player 9.0. It pisses me off they haven't done so. But I agree Hulu would rock on the Wii.
- inactive, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1I'm benefiting from it. I just watched a whole episode of Doctors on my Wii.
- leoedin, on 04/09/2008, -1/+2What does apple get out of the iPlayer on a wii?
More to the point, why? Apple and Nintendo simply made their devices web compatible. The BBC decided there was enough people using them to warrant a special service for them, and they made it. I'm happy that my license fee is paying for this (not very costly) development, as it means I can watch iPlayer content on my TV rather than just my computer. - kinstray, on 04/09/2008, -1/+2What have apple got to do with it? Did I miss something?
- inactive, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Because it already says in the article that you need the browser.
