- PabloPowell, on 09/04/2008, -0/+95So, let me get this straight. The credit card companies don't want us to see the story because it is true and they don't want the general public to know about the flaws?
- HookmasterCH47, on 09/05/2008, -0/+75He had to retract it, none of his credit cards worked anymore...
- chubbybubba, on 09/05/2008, -6/+63What the hell are you guys, a bunch a 12 year old kids? When you have to work for a living you learn not to piss on people. He said what he had to say and it didn't seem like he let the credit card companies off the hook anyway.
- goodscottyds, on 09/05/2008, -2/+53Don't blame Adam for the credit card companies being a bunch of *****.
- quomen, on 09/05/2008, -3/+41Well, would you rather have him lose his job? The reason Mythbusters is awesome is because they have a corporate budget for their project. Do you really think you can do that type of show in your garage?
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -6/+43STFU you ***** idiots, if you were in his position you'd be ***** yourself left and right
- Nyfeh, on 09/05/2008, -3/+39Yeah, I'm sorry, as much as I want the truth out, if it weren't for Discovery and their advertisers, there would be no Mythbusters, and nobody would know who the ***** Adam Savage is. Sure he could start an independent program, say online, but he would have no where near the budget Mythbusters gets from Discovery Communications(and the show's respective ratings).
- t4stringer, on 09/04/2008, -0/+23YEP!
- JesperL, on 09/05/2008, -1/+18Can't blame a guy for wanting to protect his own ass. *****, he's got solid lead balls for even mentioning it at the conference.
- sidewinderaim9x, on 09/05/2008, -1/+17Hey if it weren't for Discovery he would never have had the platform to do what we love about him. Whoever said he's worried about getting paid? So he bites his tongue once so that he can keep producing the show and spread science, bust myths, and kick ass. Lay off of him.
- linagee, on 09/05/2008, -0/+14MYTH CONFIRMED!
- WoollyMittens, on 09/05/2008, -3/+17It's very sad to see someone brought to their knees by lawyers. First against the wall when the revolution comes.
- Obamaisourhope, on 09/05/2008, -1/+15These ***** dont have a clue.. welcome to the new generation of talk tough, live on welfare morons..
a man has to make a living.. - MacSuxWindozSux, on 09/05/2008, -2/+16You can't expect that of him. If he bad mouths RFID he could loose his job. Just the same as Military personnel bad mouthing the President's policies can destroy their career.
It's not the same as lying, or making false statements. It's occupational leverage. - D1ckFace, on 09/05/2008, -6/+17Someone should show the RFID hack anyway, post it on youtube and dedicate it to Adam Savage's love of his paycheck over his love of truth...then digg it to the top of the front page.
The guy's got a lot of clout and I admire him but he's controlled in a big way - this backpedal just confirms that when it comes to controversial subjects, he's a puppet. - Resiroth, on 09/05/2008, -0/+11Myth busters closing down or retracting a comment. I thought it was brave as hell to say that especially since now that it is out on the net it has the same impact. The show doesn't get canceled and he gets to speak out.
- BGog, on 09/05/2008, -1/+12It's easy to be on a high horse when it isn't your job on the line.
Even if he works for evil corporations, he has one of the sweetest jobs on the planet. Why exactly should he throw away everything over a single story?
If he did stand his ground and got fired, here is what would happen.
1. It would be news for 2 days.
2. Everyone would forget about it.
3. Nothing would change.
He has no responsibility to sacrifice his livlihood to save us from RFID. - BGog, on 09/05/2008, -2/+11Actually, why don't YOU take a stand. I suggest you stop paying your credit card bill in protest of RFID.
Whats that? You don't want to risk your credit to take a stand for RFID? - rinpoche, on 09/05/2008, -0/+8Wrap your wallet in tinfoil.
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -6/+14I guess he really wasn't supposed to talk about it.....
***** YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME! - inactive, on 09/05/2008, -1/+9What do you think?
Maybe he knows the people who listen to him are smarter than most people. So himself a smart person, outs the credit card companys' B.S. knowing that when he retracts it during the ***** storm that *will* come, his fans - habitual brain users - will disregard it.
Likely or unlikely? Discuss- - MarsSentinel, on 09/05/2008, -0/+7I bet you will. Remember, rfid and other surveillance will not be shoved down people's throat. They will demand it. Your neighbors, sheep, are going to make this a reality. It doesnt matter any more what you think. As long as those uninformed mice around you accept this then you WILL get it as well. Domestic enemies.
- gingerboy, on 09/05/2008, -0/+7Yeah I mean all he's saying is that the reason not to air it is very convoluted, and the ultimate decision not to air it was made by the production company - that says nothing of where the pressure came from or the actual reason why.
- linagee, on 09/05/2008, -1/+8The hack is that everything RFID is hackable. Nobody bothers to use challenge/handshake authentication, not even VISA. Everything RFID is a unique serialized code that's easily copyable.
- theoallardyce, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6*****, Discovery had this pulled and is now forcing Savage to state that it was his production company's decision instead.
I have no problem with businesses following their bottom line interests. However, as a consumer its our bottom line interest to call their *****. - kholburn, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6No he didn't say that he said:
it "had nothing to do with Discovery, or their ad sales department." It cleverly didn't really contradict his previous statement. - mithrasinvictus, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6And he talked about it before he had to retract it. He made sure we know. He did his part.
- domdunc, on 09/05/2008, -1/+7not only would he lose his job, he'd probably get sued into the groud for violation of contract since he's tied to discovery until 2010.
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -1/+7Gotta make 'em happy or your out of a job. I think I know where to get some contracts on credit execs from the oil companies. Just have to make sure they understand you can't con oil men out of oil with fake immaterial currency then expect to get away with it. The oilygarchy want's their money now!
- rinpoche, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6Gee it took a hacker exactly 2 hours to hack the unhackable British passport RFIDs. Yeah - that crap is safe.
- MarsSentinel, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5yes. if you think about the permutations of data collection enabled by rfid is gets ugly fast. A reader in a store will know when you come in the door. it will know where you go in the sstore, for how long, and what you buy. it will know ALL the cards in your wallet, including whether any of them belong to anyone else. it will know the jointly-owned cards you have. it can compare this info with other databases and know everything about you. By accepting rfid enabled cards you agree to give away your life to anyone who cares to look. Deny RFID. SImple as that.
- Resiroth, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5Sorry, you don't have special powers.
- Trevordtodd, on 09/05/2008, -2/+7What a nice PR disaster ;-)
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -2/+7When you grow up and leave mommys basement, I am sure you will find a nice bridge to live under.
- valimar77, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5"Texas Instruments comes on along with chief legal counsel for American Express, Visa, Discover, and everybody else... They were way, way outgunned and they absolutely made it really clear to Discovery that they were not going to air this episode talking about how hackable this stuff was, and Discovery backed way down being a large corporation that depends upon the revenue of the advertisers. Now it's on Discovery's radar and they won't let us go near it."

Geez, it's like you people don't care anymore. - maj0rm0j0, on 09/04/2008, -25/+29Well I just lost a whole lot of respect for Mythbusters. Sounds like Adam needs stop signing contracts and start producing his own shows.
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4some of the fans of Mythbusters, *some* of them, are smarter than most people...
- bratterscain, on 09/05/2008, -1/+5*lose*
I see this so much now, I'm wondering when it will be accepted English. - Koros8, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4So, the basis of what Adam said still stands. Lawyers were involved and Mythbusters' production company had to back off.
- R0B0Ninja, on 09/05/2008, -1/+5"I reject your reality and substitute my own"
Adam savage is my hero - benologist, on 09/05/2008, -4/+7What's next, going to ruin Christmas for them and tell them Santa's not real?
- mr5150, on 09/05/2008, -2/+5Mythbusters...purchased in full by the CC and Banking Corporations in full....lookup to see the subsidiary owners and major shareholder of the discovery network and you'll understand why the gag order was issued.
+1 for the establishment
major blow to exposing fraud and lies. - oldhick, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3Right... No one can force you to lie.
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3Agreed, good points.
- wombatrobot, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2Adam, although he kicks major ass isn't the only one with access to technology,
so take this opportunity to post links to really good RFID hacks.
-or just google it.
//can't spell geek without EE - buckrogers1965, on 09/06/2008, -0/+2The tin foil wallet, it's not for conspiracy theorists anymore.
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2he also said that there were 1 lawyer person, instead of
a bunch of them as before - linagee, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2"There's yer problem!" /adam savage
- mbonzo531, on 09/05/2008, -1/+3Just because your mom says you're smarter than diggers doesn't mean shes saying it because its true.
