- carbonetc, on 06/14/2009, -2/+88That doesn't sound extremely horrible. Going too far would be making them all live together in the same house and seeing who gets "eliminated" last.
- m0rph, on 06/14/2009, -17/+99I read this as "A Reality Show with Terminator III People, That's Too Far!".
Am I the only one? - Vosem, on 06/14/2009, -2/+70All this is is just Make A Wish with video cameras.
- Xider, on 06/14/2009, -2/+63They're dying to be on TV.
- Phil8, on 06/14/2009, -0/+58They have a show similar to that on MTV.............it's called The Real World.
- syphern, on 06/14/2009, -1/+34I think this is a better idea for a reality show than PARIS HILTONS BRITISH BEST FRIEND or BBF as the slut calls it. At least this way people can see how terminal illness affects people, it may be highly educational! Im for it as it will teach the public awareness for different conditions.
- groo68, on 06/14/2009, -0/+28In another sense these people sign their rights to the TV studio accepting that though they will be displayed on TV they will also get to fulfill a lifetime dream, something they could not have accomplished otherwise. they acknowledge that they may lose dignity after they die, but it's a small price to pay, because in death who needs dignity?
- Networktwenty3, on 06/14/2009, -3/+23I can't wait till next season, retarded kids on American Gladiator.
- Jonaas, on 06/14/2009, -5/+22this is the line that everyone is going to draw?
Women whoring themselves out to music "celebrities" whose careers are long gone probly shoulda been the stopping point. - freakish_beast, on 06/14/2009, -1/+18It still sounds boring, i'm not gonna watch it.
anyone remember the commerical on comedy central where they made a "show" that would put a bunch of handicap people in one house with no help and see who would survive and win? - mattmacneil, on 06/14/2009, -0/+16I hear they die in the end.
- mooseofshadows, on 06/14/2009, -1/+16I'm betting if this had been titled, "New reality show gives terminally ill patients a chance to live out unfulfilled dreams", this comment page would have gone very differently.
- primatage, on 06/14/2009, -2/+17totally saw that too.
- ShingoEX, on 06/14/2009, -2/+17It's funny that when Oprah does this, she gets nothing but applause, but when someone else does, it's "OH NO STOP EXPLOITING THE SICK!!!!!!!!!"
- SamSks, on 06/14/2009, -0/+12Who says they're losing they're dignity?
We're a death phobic society and what these folks are doing is brave and will help many who are not only facing the same circumstances but their families too. - HonestAbeinator, on 06/14/2009, -2/+14Giving dying people a chance to have an incredible experience and share it with the world?! This is an outrageous mockery of everything television stands for. Lets get back to the hills.
- mike23w, on 06/14/2009, -0/+12I'd watch.
- dist0rtedwave, on 06/14/2009, -1/+12Well, if any of the people getting their wish fulfilled on TV don't want to be on TV, all they have to do is say no. It's not like they are being forced into it. They are appearing on TV in exchange for some payment, clearly anyone who takes part thinks that it is worth it.
- mogdor, on 06/14/2009, -2/+13And the video cameras change it from "Make A Wish" to "Make A Profit".
- vectoor, on 06/14/2009, -1/+11Dugg for the creepy yet hilarious joke.
- Zuljin, on 06/14/2009, -1/+11I disagree.
Not something I'd watch, but it gives terminally ill people (those who choose to) a chance to enjoy the time they have left, and if done right there's no reason it couldn't be a nice inspiring show too.
Sure, a show with terminally ill people could be VERY tasteless and exploitative. This doesn't sound like it will be. - GawtMilk, on 06/14/2009, -0/+8I hate reality TV shows. When I see people watching them, I never understand it. Bad jokes, bad writing, bad characters. The only reason they are made is because they are cheap to make.
That said, at least this show does something good for society. It gives people very little hope the chance to live out their wildest dreams. Most seriously ill people are so in debt from medical bills that they cannot afford to travel to that one last spot they want to see in their life. I'm sure that if this takes off, the people who are ill on this show will get a ton of support. Susan Boyle got famous from Britain's Got Talent, and who knows - maybe a terminally ill patient will find similar fame? Maybe a doctor will find someone through this show who is just right for an experimental procedure, possibly saving their life?
Giving a voice to those with little left is no bad thing, in my opinion. I only fear the cheesy voice overs, slow-motion effects and sappy music. Just tell the story, and focus on how happy it makes these people. Don't get too exploitative and this could work. - inactive, on 06/14/2009, -2/+9at least we won´t get the same cast on season 2
- IvanB, on 06/14/2009, -1/+7Haha, oh come on Arnie!
- mirot, on 06/14/2009, -2/+8Terminally ill patients get to go on an experience that would have otherwise not existed had this show not been created. Shows like these should be encouraged and not condemned.
- SurrealDream, on 06/14/2009, -1/+7I honestly saw it in my head as "A terminator show with terminally ill people". Needless to say, I was confuddled. I thought they cancelled it?
- Yazilliclick, on 06/14/2009, -0/+5I fail to see how it's digusting. These people sign up for the show of their own free will, they know what they're getting into and the people with the problems and their families are more than OK with it so I fail to see how anybody else can see it as taking advantage of them or disgusting.
- prompel, on 06/14/2009, -6/+11Bread and circus for the unwashed masses.
- charlie6969, on 06/14/2009, -14/+19VERY cool concept.
However, sharing it with the world is kind of creepy, very mercenary and way exploitative of the importance of time in these peoples' lives.
In one word; DISGUSTING. - MacHarborGuy, on 06/14/2009, -0/+5This is why Digg needs Serif fonts for the story titles. captial I and lowercase l are way too similer and look like III lll IlI Ill lIl lII
at least a pipe | looks different |Il I|l - erkokite, on 06/14/2009, -3/+7They should give all profits to charities for people with terminally diseases (and research organizations for such diseases).
- eclectro, on 06/14/2009, -0/+4"Lets get back to the hills."
Or maybe gunplay. - crossmr, on 06/15/2009, -0/+441 up..2 down.. its all the evidence we need to show all these people going "Oh its too far!!" are full of crap.
the joke is more or less the same as the TV show and people support that. I suppose supporting the joke is anonymous your comment isn't.. - coolcole93, on 06/14/2009, -0/+4Brilliant dead-pan humour there.
- inactive, on 06/14/2009, -1/+5"Reality" TV Sucks Ass.
- adriaaan, on 06/14/2009, -1/+5Don't know whether to digg you or bury you cause you made me laugh but then I cried because I thought of all the people I know with cancer :(
- lukas88, on 06/14/2009, -1/+5I see this as a step in the right direction. People need to deal with issues of mortality, the more it is part of the common dialog, the less people will treat it like a topic that needs to be avoided. Mortality can be seen as a gift, something that adds meaning to living. Who knows, it might inspire people to make the time that they have left more meaningful to themselves and loved ones.
The people on the show are not likely to feel exploited, it is not like it is happening against their will. Some people at that stage WANT to be an example (i.e., the last lecture). It is win-win. - fluidfoundation, on 06/14/2009, -3/+7Talk to the hand.
- Yazilliclick, on 06/14/2009, -0/+3Exactly. Should we also be against shows like Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Holmes on Homes as well because they deal with people having troubles? These types of shows are really win-win for everybody involved. The people get something they want that they couldn't otherwise afford, sometimes something they really need, the show gets a good story and ratings and the people watching can normally learn a thing or two from it.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 06/15/2009, -1/+4Why do people feel the need to say "hey, I have a reading disability or reading comprehension issue!!"
- SoftyMcCuddles, on 06/14/2009, -1/+4At least these terminally ill people are able to have their dreams fulfilled. I'm all for the show just for that alone!
- Seann7656, on 06/14/2009, -1/+4I fail to see the problem here...
- mattmacneil, on 06/14/2009, -0/+3CRIPPLE FIIIIIIIIIGHT!!
- phrakshun, on 06/14/2009, -1/+4Ack, I feel like a dick. But, LOL.
- Dundasbro, on 06/14/2009, -0/+3I've always wished that people on reality t.v shows were terminally ill, so this really works out for me.
- MacHarborGuy, on 06/14/2009, -0/+3not to sound rude or insensitive or anything like that, but I wonder how long it will be until one of these "terminally ill" cast members has a miraculous recovery and doesn't die.
i don't know, but there is just something about a "reality" show with people on it that you know are going to die in a painful way in the near future just doesn't settle with me. I know EVERYONE we see on TV is going to die "at some point", but the idea that these people are guaranteed to die "soon" because of a known ailment just seems a little morbid to me...
don't get me wrong, I love what charities do for terminally ill people, like Make a Wish and other charities like that. it's just this idea that everything has to be made into some sort of televised spectacle is getting weird.
Really, how long until we see The World Television Premiere of the "Faces of Death" series on Spike TV? Oh yeah, we almost have that with 1000 Ways To Die (although it is a ***** dramatization with stupid puns and jokes about people that died) - masterstghm, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2Well, these people have a choice not to star in the show. If it means one party gets a wish fufilled and the other gets money, then I don't see a problem. Win win. Just because they're terminal doesn't mean they're not capable of understanding what is going on. They're not doing this against their will.
- jordanlgta, on 06/14/2009, -2/+4You don't need to pack your bags because you can't take anything to hell.
- Chooxo, on 06/14/2009, -0/+2"i don't know, but there is just something about a "reality" show with people on it that you know are going to die in a painful way in the near future just doesn't settle with me. That's society's hangup. Everybody dies yet few want to face it. You'd rather sweep the terminally ill away into a corner where you don't have to think about them? - kryptikcomic, on 06/14/2009, -1/+3It really isn't all that bad down here. Being forced to join Digg was kind of difficult, but you get used to it. I'll be seeing the rest of you soon...
