- krabat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24Cowboy Bebop made the list. List approved.
- MattLat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14The Dexter opening is the best one on there... I could watch it over and over again. Such a great show.
- jtrost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I'm more impressed with shows such as Lost and Grey's Anatomy that don't waste valuable screen time with opening sequences.
- ChicGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Six feet under.....?
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8So I don't sound like a negative nancy, one intro I love is the office. The song is badass in a goofy way and the shots of all the characters make me laugh every time. Plus its short. Bonus for that.
- ClassicJBC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10The House intro is Massive Attack's "Teardrop." They released it in 1998, a good few years before House started airing.
- DonCarcharo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Every time I see the opening sequence of the Sopranos I'm reminded of visiting my in-laws who live in that area. One particularly memorable moment was the first time I passed the deli in the opening credits. I was, unfortunately, in a limousine during a funeral. My wife's uncle had just been murdered so it was a pretty somber scene. And then there's me,
"Hey that's the deli from the opening sequence of The Sopranos!"
If I didn't already have an uncomfortable relationship with the in-laws I sure had one after that. - Dainjah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Agree on Carnivale... Rome and Deadwood have great openings too. Penn and Teller's *****! won an award for opening credits as well I believe.
- Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Doctor Who?
- somnus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I may be wrong on this but 24 skips as well, doesn't it? They just have the speeding up countdown and then jump into the recap.
I particularly like the visual style of 24, as well. I guess nobody cares about that last bit but oh well. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Law and Order is missing, but its cousin Homicide is there.. Law and Order's Bum-BUM should probably be somewhere here..
Also, I love the minimal introduction to episodes of Lost. A quick recap, followed by the spooky music and the logo.. and you're in the show. That's how it should be. - ClassicJBC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Perhaps it's just because I started watching the old shows again on DVD, but I think The West Wing should be on there, if just for the theme.
- ShooterMcGavin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I think Scrubs is good because its fast.
Bing, bang, boom. Shows starting. - rustytwonderdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4no mention of gilligan's island or beverly hillbillies? i award no points to this list.
- guytoronto, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Too many missed good ones to list them all.
Fall Guy
Star Trek
Knight Rider - Nevrast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Long introductions really bother me. I don't need to see it every week. Lost's is perfect. The ending is great too. It's great in tense moments cut to black with the big chord "LOST" or in a quiet ending they just cut to the title without the big chord. It's really nice.
Apparently J.J. Abrams just mocked up the title "sequence" on his computer and it stuck. - MysticSavage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The Sopranos is probably the best in that list, especially because of the theme music.
Conspicuously absent, Carnivale and The Wire. - nachochease, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What no A-team? Best intro ever.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMjmyv1rNJ8 - wang1011, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think a better list is shows that DONT fit their intros, would be pretty interesting if they came up with that
- ShooterMcGavin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5How can they miss one of the most fitting openings ever..
Miami Vice
Watch and recognize! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGw9e0kRWhI - Rethcir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah I think the second Pertwee intro (the one that later was turned into the Tom Baker one) is the best.. But the first Tom baker intro gives me chills every time simply due to the total insanely awsomeness of the first several seasons of Tom Baker Who (pretty much the Sarah Jane and Leela episodes).
Damn, I really need to find enough HD space to download every Tom Baker episode ever. - batmanjr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm curious if they have a contrast blog where is shows the "top" shows who's opening credits don't fit the show at all.
- kiiwii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The first one I thought of was "Freaks and Geeks"... and for once, the one I thought of was on the list.
RIP Freaks and Geeks. Along with Arrested Development, one of the best shows on television. - GLSmyth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This gets a Digg because Homicide, one of the best shows to be on television (until the last season) was included. A lot of great ones missing, but that's what opinions are for.
- FuzzyBunny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Indeed. I was never more disappointed than when they didn't use Tank for the intro to the Cowboy Bebop Movie.
- sacherjj, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I'm wondering where House is. I love that bit of music. Adding a beat that mimics the human heartbeat. It is great.
- flippedcracker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i LOVE freaks and geeks.
- fodder650, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What about Manimal and Misfits of science?! Do we have no sense of history!
- ltuspud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Get Smart is a great opening sequence. I'm definitely looking forward to Steve Carell's remake of it. I'm hoping for great stuff.
- pyrexia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What about Airwolf?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u902HyNQTD4 - DevastatorIIC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@mattlat
I just read the two books the series is based off of, and they're very good. Different from the series (even darker, if you can imagine that), but good. I'm looking forward to the new book.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darkly_Dreaming_Dexter - zizzybaloobah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They only usually do that after the show has some success -- Grey's Anatomy originally had a longer opening sequence that included vocals. Desperate Housewives can't seem to make up it's mind and uses both long and short opening sequences.
I'm trying to think of shows that had very short/brief/no opening titles from the get-go. Lost and Heroes come to mind of course, can't think of any others... - CheckMarshall, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Hmmmm......I thought the Wayans brothers intro would make the list. Damn.
- tcquad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2USA is horrible with themes for their science fiction shows. They changed themes for the Dead Zone for monetary reasons, while leaving the 4400 theme intact despite the fact the dramatic theme of the show changed.
Don't get me wrong, the 4400 theme song is amazingly well done and perfectly adapted to the first season, where reintegrating into life was the major problem. Now that everyone basically has their place back in society, the focus has changed into "save the world" and the theme is tangental. - gyberedeemer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Did anyone else watch the Taxi one? It's GTA. Hilarious to hear cursing on top of easy listening.
- ewhac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think the Pertwee and Tom Baker intros are the most timeless. Baker's is almost minimalist compared to the others, having chopped two measures out of the signature tune.
Hartnell and Troughton were marred by the limited technology available, but they still have their own unique charm.
After Tom Baker, however, things start to go south -- more particularly, after John Nathan-Turner became producer. His first attempt at a new credit sequence for Tom Baker was quite reasonable and imaginative. However, rather than give Davison and Colin Baker their own, completely new sequences as had been done in the past, he just hacked up the old ones. For Colin Baker, this hackery was especially egregious and lame, basically by throwing a diffraction grating over the lens. For Colin Baker's final season ("Trial of a Timelord"), Turner recovered some cred by changing the signature music to something very unusual. Strangely, I found that I rather liked it.
But for Sylvester McCoy, one can only imagine Turner phoned up a school buddy of his with a synth and a copy of Lightwave. The result was an aural and visual cacophany which, while "modern" and "high tech" and definitely attention-grabbing, was an utter mismatch for the show -- every bit as grating as Mel's perpetual screaming.
However, the most recent incarnation, starring Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant, seems to reclaim the Doctor's heritage and reasserts the romance -- and danger -- of time travel. They've done a very nice job with the new show. - GLSmyth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://oneminutehowto.com/Shows/Shows.asp?ID=13
- ECTOONE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They left out Gilligans Island
- No13Baby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No "Six Feet Under"?!?
No "Futurama"!?!?!
I know hardly anyone is watching, but I also enjoy the "30 Rock" opening. - Remy_LeBeau, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Dugg for getting it right with Freaks and Geeks.
But, no Firefly, Buffy or Angel? - ericeman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, I just thought about how Freaks and Geeks fit well but there would probably be 22 that were better and there it is. Never saw the Dexter opening theme (only had a chance to watch the pilot so far) and it is really well done.
- ArcaneDevice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14400 is a terrible credits sequence. it's shot more like a Dido video than having any relation to the "people from the future pulling the characters through time, giving them special powers and then everyone fighting over it" story. It tells you nothing about the show and has little in common with the tone. It's not been about the characters personal lives for a very long long time.
- image0434, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I almost forgot the best one of all
THE ADVENTURES OF PETE AND PETE - soulpiercer7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how hard is it to go to youtube and get the code? I love the opening. I have it on my iPod and I listen to it a lot.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6zDfxZ4NcE - SoldOutMatinee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's all about CSI: Miami's intro. Nothing beats that "Yeah!" after Horatio Caine's one-liner.
- drgori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I think a better list is shows that DONT fit their intros, would be pretty interesting if they came up with that"
And then some shows' intros would work on either list, like Twin Peaks:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oDuGN6K3VQ
In some ways, the opening credits are totally incongruous with the tone of the show. And yet, I can't imagine a more perfect opening. Even when I watch the shows on tape or DVD, I have to watch the credits. - edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you liked the Cowboy Bebop opening sequence, you'll love the Gunsmith Cats opening. Pity the only way to get the awesome OP theme is to rip it from the show itself.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naMSbyMpcPs - gregmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That Mary Tyler Moore opening sequence is so classic (guess that's why its on the list) and Get Smart - a show I had forgotten about til this - is probably my favorite on that list.
- lunchbox12682, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Firefly's is great.
Buffy's not so much.
Angel's needed more violin. - tozmervo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1agreed. the opening theme got stuck in my head the second I read "cowboy bebop."
