- Bentinney, on 10/11/2007, -7/+215This is in no way a hypocritical action, to me he seems like an avid linux user. This site is just poking fun at users of most other operating systems, and makes many good points. The reason he uses linux on his server is because he likes it.

"Yes, we run on Linux. The hosting provider uses it for some strange reason. So sue me. :D Don't shoot the messenger!" - atomicpoet, on 10/11/2007, -12/+69What he really means is that Linux is skilled at providing its userbase a pleasurable experience.
- kcpwnsgman, on 10/11/2007, -3/+37from the site:
"Linux Sucks So Much This Site Uses It " - RonDutt, on 10/11/2007, -9/+42Website isn't always accurate, I know my blog/site runs on Windows 2003 (my own server) and yet the site says Linux...Didn't know Windows 2003 was forked from any form of Linux :P
- jdc760, on 10/11/2007, -2/+31There's actually a statement about this on the site: http://linuxsucks.org/contact0.html
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/11/2007, -2/+28Who better to know if Linux sucks than an actual user? :-P
- Alegoo92, on 10/11/2007, -2/+27Linuxsucks.org runs Linux
Apple.com runs Solaris
Dell and Gateway run Mac OS X server/Linux (tho they are hardware)
... the only website that isnt pretty much saying their product blows is Microsoft..running Windows Server 2003. - vonskippy, on 10/11/2007, -6/+31Pour me up a big old cup of "who gives a *****".
- arcooke, on 10/11/2007, -6/+30Thanks for not spamming your blog. :)
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -9/+29Half the frikken internet runs on Apache upon Linux. so what? i bet a good chunk of anti-MS sites run on IIS too. the hosting platform is irrelevant to the content. all you see is an ftp address to dump your content on. does it matter whats in the background?
- inobla, on 10/11/2007, -7/+25Doesn't this lend more credence to their argument than, say, somebody bashing an OS and knows nothing about it??
I'd rather hear "Vista Sucks!!" or "OSX Sucks!!" from somebody who has actually spent some time using it rather than from a competing OS's fanboy who's never used it and is going to hate it no matter what. (that crap goes on A LOT around here). - Rfriaz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20It seems that their website is deleting comments that reference the fact that they are running Linux?
I sense outrage. - dvsbastard, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18Combustion engines suck but it would be safe to say that 99%~ here use them in some way, shape or form.
This does not make us hypocrites, it just makes us observant enough to see faults in what we commonly use... - xodee48, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14lol at the poll in there site:
What is the best operating system of all time?
Percent Votes Options
41% 298 Linux
14% 104 BSD
4% 34 Mac OS X
2% 17 Windows 9x/ME
17% 125 Windows XP
9% 71 Windows 2000/NT
2% 16 BeOS
3% 23 Amiga OS
1% 11 VMS
3% 22 More Cheesy Poofs! - speaker219, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Fascinating.
- pivovy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Does it send it back to another dimension where it belongs?
- speaker219, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8wtf guys, just because he says something true involving microsoft you guys digg it down. seriously. if you don't like microsoft, keep it to yourself.
/rant - grumpyrain, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Actually, it is quite common. In order to work around some DDoS attacks, Microsoft has in the past used Akamai (which runs Linux).

It was quite amusing to see OS: Linux, Web Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0 - bblades, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Buried as lame... read the actual site. It seems like a fairly insightful blog about different operating systems. The contributors seem fairly balanced. A nerd with no sense of humor went through all that trouble and they got duped, good job.
- DaMacGamer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6the poll they have on their site, says that 41% of people think linux is the best os out there...lol.
- Ozzy73, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6WTF spelled backwards is FTW
- MacGyver2210, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Make it yourself. It's in the cabinet next to my box of "Don't ***** care" bars...
- HueytheFreeman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6To be fair, I voted for the cheesy poofs.
- alexonix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6judging from sample members of it's audience, that seems a safe bet.
- myfanwy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7SARCASM
he's obviously a linux fan (actually, he's not for any OS, it's pretty balanced). read anything more than the frontpage and it's clear.
next - se1zure, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9anyone moving to linux has pretty much the opposite. from first hand experience.
- se1zure, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7yeah, cause anyone who makes a typo is automatically an idiot .Obviously I don't think "know" is spelled "konw", perhaps you're the idiot for not knowing the difference between a typo and a spelling / grammatical error.
***** - feel free to look that up bitch. - BigFishCarl, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Holy smokes your right! All the pieces are falling in place.
- Jugalator, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5OR... He use it on the server because his web host use it. Could be either way... We can't go assume he runs his own web server. A whole lot don't, but pick it out of good hosting plans. And then usually Linux wins out, because of lower licensing costs that translates to lower hosting costs.
- grumpyrain, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5No it isn't, never was, and never will be.
The Windows 9x and NT stack was based on BSD, not Linux. Furthermore, they have not been accused of violating the BSD license with their TCP/IP stack. Mac OS-X bases their Microkernel on BSD (not just a network stack), and Vista doesn't use the BSD stack at all. If you honestly think that Microsoft would use code licensed under GPL in Windows and publically admit it, you have no understanding of either GPL or Microsofts business model. - zeroooooooooooo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Submitter, doesn't know how to use commas.
- hooksie, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I sense Sparta.
- RockinRoel, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6That guy is absolutely right. Maybe a bit sceptical, but right.
Linux has a long way to go before anyone else than people like me (computer geek idiots) would even try to use it. - ucg1, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Of course they have control, they are paying for it, so therefore they could have found a host running the OS of their choice and paid for that
- illegalamigo, on 10/11/2007, -8/+12Well maybe his hosting company just runs a Linux server that he manages with an FTP? Entirely possible.
- mevets, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I wonder if GNU runs GNU/Linux or Linux...
- MrPresident13, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4haha all the topics chewing the site out for running linux got deleted
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6they don't want to - thats what their host uses. For example, my hosting options for my websites were windows or linux at the same price. linux gives you a bit more control and things like multiple ftp per hosting account. Personally i hate linux, but becuase the hosting plan is better thats what i use.
It's not a case of "want to"
what about mac sites? what do you suggest they get hosted on? Choice again is pretty much linux or windows - Many mac users hate both quite vocally - cambob76, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6I don't like Windows... but here I am using Vista, albeit a cracked copy. :-)
- RockinRoel, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I'm using Vista and it sucks, but I'm not saying anything new here.
It's stuck for ages sometimes before it pops out ye ole allowance question. - gblackbox, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Excerpt from February 2000 Netcraft Web Server Survey:
www.apple.com has been running on Solaris and Netscape-Enterprise
for several years, but Apple is now introducing MacOS X Server and
Apache into the load balancing pool serving the site. At the moment
there is a 2:1 ratio of Solaris to MacOS X Server on repeated queries
to the site, but presumably Apple's intention will be to ultimately
replace the Sun platform with their own.
This may have been the case 7 years ago, but hardly the case now. - HUKI365, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Neither, do you.
- se1zure, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5and i'm just saying, maybe he feels linux sucks, but windows server sucks more.
- scoobe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I've never laughed so hard!!! Here's some snippets from the site itself:
"I'm a Unix administrator and I must admit one thing. Microsoft Windows is much faster than Linux on the Internet. Graphics are better as well. "
and another:
"I use that spare time to reboot my Windows machine multiple times a day. Technical support personnel recommend that I do it regularly-- kind of like brushing my teeth. To help remind me of this necessity, windows pop up to tell me to reboot whenever I make a configuration change. By now my machine is minty fresh, I figure."
Anyways, i bet probably half of the users of that site are people who get it as the joke that it is. As for the others... well... pfft...HAHAHA! - grumpyrain, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Actually Microsoft did have Akamai (running Linux) providing caching for some of their websites during a DDoS attack, so Netcraft did report Linux for these sites at one stage.
http://news.netcraft.com/archives/2003/08/17/wwwmicrosoftcom_runs_linux_up_to_a_point_.html - callumj, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2So? Thats a company using a caching system! That doesn't mean Ron is using Akamai because Microsoft, a caching provider would no way effect the software of another server in this case. It is possible that his ISP could be running a NAT that reports as Linux, not Akamai.
- RockinRoel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Word.
After I posted that, I saw that it could be interpreted in 2 ways... funny. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I hear this on the linux action show podcast, is funny.
- mancat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2YO WHAT YOU GOT AGAINST THE TAURUS DOGG?????
