- Universal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I'd stick it in my shirt pocket, just in case ;)
- kyriakos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I am sure jack bauer would love this one
- clintonforbes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8DAMN IT! This news comes just a day too late. My USB drive was shot up by gangsters just yesterday...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Excellent, now I can hold my nuclear launch codes on this new drive.
- TheTalentedMrC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The only flash drive endorsed by 50 Cent!
- MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9What would you have on a thumbdrive that is more important than your life? Bulletproof lol.
- Dradis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Pretty cool. I only wish there was an image of that bad boy.
The other day I accidently put my Lexar Jumpdrive Elite through the washing machine.. then the dryer. When I opened up the dryer to get my clothes, there's my flash drive sitting on top. I thought for sure it was screwed, but I plugged it in and all my files were there, perfectly intact. Needless to say I was impressed that the thing could be submerged in water, spun around and then baked and still work.. and it's just a cheap flash drive, not a ruggedized version. - TiMMY8765, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7now I need to make a vest out of these.
- theRIAA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7if i break it can i sue them?
- Odweaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5wouldn't work because they arn't one complete object and there would be stiching between each drive that would be the weekpoint. That is better left to a ceramic balistic plate and vest with a 40 gig external hardrive under it.
- camiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Saw this on Engadget the other day. Their take "...but before rushing out to order one, perhaps you should first step back and consider the lifestyle choices that have made bullet-resistance a feature you so highly value in your portable electronics."
- Odweaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The "Lexar Jumpdrive Sport" is also prety damn durable. I have had it go though the washer and drier about 5 or six times already, and it still works like new, and i've still havn't learned to check my pockets better.
- EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4For the record, I've been through several run-of-the-mill flash drives. Granted some plastic ones have had their case broken, I've never lost data. Pools, washing machines, on the keyring outside all night, dropped in the snow, shut in the car door (broken finger, broken flash drive case- but data was fine)
- mistergosh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5That would only provoke God into making a better dumb-ass end user.
- camiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@mvnicosia -- Then evolution would cause a better "dumb-ass end user"
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4But is it Dumb-ass end user proof?
- EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wow, 32 MB? That seems like a waste of manufacturing to me.
- TheSolomon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well, you could overlap the drives rather than stitching them side-to-side. As long as the bullet wasn't aimed at an angle, such a vest would deflect it.
- vdubski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Same thing happened to me with my SanDisk Cruzer Mini. It also survived.
- Ghostgum, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3USB drives are pretty much bullet proof already.
The drive in TFA is not ESD proof, which is the main weakness of USB drives.
One little spark - both the USB drive AND your data is toast.
So imo, a bulletproof USB device is just another worthless gimmick. - slicedoranges, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why would they ship it without releasing the price?
- vegasbright, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7no pic, no digg
- mvnicosia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@mistergosh -- I don't believe in God, but damn that's funny
- gmikej, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thanks Odweaver for making most of the people here feel smart.
- spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Worthless without pictures!
- pabster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Terrorists are gonna love this. :P
- zimm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1a .22 is a bullet.
a .50 cal is also a bullet...
can it survive the 50? thats what i'd like to see... - diggduggjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That could be a problem when the NSA is after you. With a cheap drive you could quickly crush it under foot. Rugged is okay, but not indestructable. RIAA/MPAA would like this, it would be hard to trash your library when you are being brought to justice. ;)
- slack31337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have done the same thing w/ my lexar secure drive and it works fine... well until i lost it
- b0n0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Between this bulletproof drive and the hidden volume USB browser, this would make a great little spy kit....
http://www.digg.com/security/Exhausting_Guide_to_Circumventing_Censorship - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's the picture: http://www.therawfeed.com/2006/06/bulletproof-waterproof-fireproof-usb.html
- angusm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And if it hadn't been for the USB thumb-drive my mother gave me, that bullet would have gone straight through my heart ...
- dexOtaku, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Any bets on how long it will take for this to show up as part of a Deus Ex Machina movie scene?

What is Digg?
