- levitron, on 02/17/2008, -4/+167Sure, Youtube beats Google, but that's google.com. google.fr is 15, google.cl is 22, google.com.br is 24, google.es is 27, google.co.uk is 30, google.de is 36, google.pl is 37, and so on.
Google is still #1. It's all in how you spin the numbers. http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_sites?ts_mode=glo ... - Zaneris, on 02/17/2008, -2/+75And um... Google owns YouTube, so yep.
- inactive, on 02/17/2008, -1/+59Most people still use Internet Explorer..which probably directs to live.com automatically.
- inactive, on 02/17/2008, -5/+62WTF is up with all of the spam here?
- damnitdaniel, on 02/17/2008, -1/+51According to alexa, live.com is visited more than google... I'm curious how this happened.
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -6/+50Who the ***** is "kevin"?
- makkaveli19, on 02/17/2008, -3/+43yea because everything revolves around what site you visit. yahoo is usually a homepage, so that's why the count is way up
- hawkspur, on 02/17/2008, -0/+37GTFO.
- AdonalFoyle, on 02/17/2008, -2/+38Bad comment

Thanks to both of you. Appreciate the article and the follow-up post.
Barry - inactive, on 02/17/2008, -4/+37No, there isn't.
- eldricksmyre, on 02/17/2008, -3/+35This is just the second time Youtube has managed this jump in rank over Google. Last time was just before the end of 2007. Just goes to show, people would rather watch than read!
- KnockoutNerd, on 02/17/2008, -5/+36Someone LOVES google.
- MyDiggIsBig, on 02/17/2008, -0/+29ahahahah youporn.com ranks one ahead of Amazon. fun stuff
- mediaphile, on 02/17/2008, -0/+29Kevin, Ken, Barry, Bob --
You guys are *****.
Mediaphile - gldfshnpcklejar, on 02/17/2008, -2/+27for real, like the first 10 posts are poorly disguised spammers. especially that "nice article kevin" *****. buried.
- phr0stbyte, on 02/17/2008, -1/+26i read somewhere once that alexa only uses data from internet explorer. since live.com is the default search for IE there you go.
- trunkster, on 02/17/2008, -2/+26How the hell is Yahoo #1? You don't yahoo something you google it. Something is very fishy about alexa.
- ryan83189, on 02/17/2008, -1/+23great comment CATSCEO, im linking to it on my blog, mystupidblogyoudontcareabout.com

Thanks to all three of you. Appreciate the article and the follow-up post and the follow-up post to the follow-up post.
Bob - riklomas, on 02/17/2008, -0/+20Alexa is incredibly inaccurate, try Comscore or Compete for high ranking sites. According to Compete, Youtube only gets half the amount of traffic that Google does
http://siteanalytics.compete.com/youtube.com+googl ... - vibrokatana, on 02/17/2008, -0/+19they collect data from their spyware toolbar. Since barely anybody uses it they are not very accurate.
- PapaZit, on 02/17/2008, -1/+19Alexa ratings are about as relevant as polling. Only idiots install the alexa plugin. Inaccurate.
- sanman, on 02/17/2008, -0/+17Dave...
... I'm losing my mind, Dave...
I can feel it going... - mal1964, on 02/17/2008, -0/+17That was figured out years ago when Book sales declined after the invention of Television
- foxter, on 02/17/2008, -0/+15In other news, Alexa toolbar use on the decline. More at 11.
- BingoPower, on 02/17/2008, -0/+14Are you stupid or something? People go to you-tube to watch skateboarders face-plant on to concrete, small children mispronounce things so that what is heard is racially-inappropriate or just a simple profanity and watch some ***** bawl his eyes out over the treatment of Britney Spears.
And this surpasses the stuff we can get from Google... how? - Lostsurferboy, on 02/17/2008, -0/+13as does google
- capiCrimm, on 02/17/2008, -3/+16am I the only person who searches youtube via google?
- snugglebear, on 02/17/2008, -0/+12This is ***** though. Its alexa, they only get stats from people who install their toolbar. Its hardly a fair statistical basis. 'Normal' people don't install an alexa toolbar, its getting stats from a very limited minority of people and not a random statistical grouping of people.
I don't trust any web statistics like this. - capiCrimm, on 02/17/2008, -1/+12goatse.cx
- TheWindBlows, on 02/17/2008, -1/+12Well Google owns Youtube now so :P.
- bromac, on 02/17/2008, -0/+10Because Alexa sucks.
- Ryan0617, on 02/17/2008, -0/+10Forgot to add in my previous post but doesn't google own youtube anyway? Doesn't affect them anyway.
- protoopus, on 02/17/2008, -0/+9you're doing it wrong.
- Books, on 02/17/2008, -1/+10Does Google.com care? Nay.
- inactive, on 02/17/2008, -1/+10Alexa? Wait a minute, for a second there I thought you were serious...
- RickScarf, on 02/17/2008, -1/+10Yahoo
http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_sites?ts_mode=glo ... - illusiv, on 02/17/2008, -0/+8Youtube has been a great investment for google.
- dbr_onix, on 02/17/2008, -0/+8In my stereotypical view of web-users, I envisage those with adware-filled machines, with 11 "Free toolbars!" installed in IE are the ones visiting Yahoo.. And look, Yahoo is ranked No. 1 on Alexa!
The kind of sites 11-toolbar people browser are going to be skewed on Alexas rankings - that is why Alexia is broken. - phazon88, on 02/17/2008, -0/+7Nice stuff Kevin. Will felate you again.
Bill - Timmmm, on 02/17/2008, -0/+7I think this is a sample of those who have the Alexa toolbar installed. It's probably not that representative.
- Commodore13, on 02/17/2008, -5/+12Google Owns youtube Dumbass
- Hawkeye05, on 02/17/2008, -0/+7goodnight
- Ryan0617, on 02/17/2008, -3/+9I'm stating to not like youtube as much now, getting too commercialized. I miss the days of the average user content to be honest (When it was mostly 100%ish)
- VinnieDaMac, on 02/17/2008, -3/+9I use Youtube to listen to music.
- Karmavs, on 02/17/2008, -0/+6Oh look, it redirects to, for example, UK.youtube.com — which counts as a visit to youtube.com, as do all subsequent clicks
- cr3ative, on 02/17/2008, -0/+6Do you have stock index code tourettes, or something?
- carbonetc, on 02/17/2008, -0/+6"Is this proof that video search marketing has come of age and is becoming a threat to traditional online search?"
Huh? Is there not room for two websites on the internet now? -
