- Tenlow, on 10/12/2007, -6/+157It's because Colbert demanded his share of the $1.65b. I'd post the youtube link of it, but you know...
- Revadarth, on 10/12/2007, -6/+123Even though Colbert embraces and encourages his shows being put up on Youtube?
I hate lawyers. - goman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+102Huge news. A clip on You Tube actually got me watching Colbert/Daily Show.
- HaltingPoint, on 10/12/2007, -3/+89I once thought Comedy Central "got it" in terms of viral marketing. But clearly they don't. Video sharing sites are one of the sole reasons that the Colbert Report is as big as it is. Stephen Colbert embraced YouTube like no other TV personality has to date, and he has reaped the rewards of it. It is a real shame that they are displaying this level of ignorance.
- converge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+77That's like 80% of YouTube.
- MrBabyMan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+79Digg will probably suffer the most from this.
- mulling, on 10/12/2007, -3/+69Google is going to have to buy Comedy Central to save YouTube.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Digg links are going to be broken. - Sparkster185, on 10/12/2007, -6/+64This is sad, but inevitable.
- schroeder, on 10/12/2007, -4/+61I understand demanding south park off but they're not going to sell dvds of the daily show or colbert report. If anything it's good promotion for people to see these clips and get interested in watching the whole show. If not for youtube i would have never really understood how the internets tubes worked.
http://youtube.com/... oh yeah, that's right... - devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -5/+59Or to the people who complain in every single daily show/colbert thread, it's like a party!
- reiggin, on 10/12/2007, -9/+57@ Revadarth:
It's not in Colbert's authority to authorize people to be able to download or copy content owned by the company he works for. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+50All this is going to do is erode YouTubes popularity and start giving clones (clones without any money to make them a target for lawyers) a ton of new users.
- wilwheaton, on 10/12/2007, -3/+47Oh, this isn't a problem at all. I'll just go to Comedy Central's website and watch it there.

Oh, look at that. They don't support Mac, they don't support Linux, they don't support Firefox.
Brilliant ***** move, you douchebag lawyers. If I were a creative person on Colbert or Daily Show, I would be PISSED. - teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -9/+52"All you whiners need to grow up and stop expecting people to give you ***** for free. Go and actually produce something. You know, like a software program, song recording, or television show."
Yes because all those 2-5 min clips really got me over my comedy cravings. Comedy Central should be kissing Youtubes ass, if it wasnt for them I wouldnt have gotten back into South Park, I wouldnt have bought seasons 1-5 on DVD in the last couple weeks and I wouldnt be watching the Daily Show. Free promotion my friend. - dkm201, on 10/12/2007, -11/+53@Mysidia:
I hereby authorize you to take anything you want from any Best Buy stores. If they get pissed, tell 'em I authorized you. - obrysii, on 10/12/2007, -4/+41That's odd. Colbert seemed fully pleased with the fact that he was all over YouTube.
What's Comedy Central thinking? - IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -6/+41This is getting worse and worse. :(
- kamilX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37YouTube is going down the tubes... =(
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35Hope they kept the receipt.
- otheruser, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35Youtube is now lame.
Dailymotion ftw. - NegroSuave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32If you look on video.google.com they are selling South Park Episodes
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32Me too. Thanks to Digg I became a big fan of both shows.
- RAT-Man, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28They want TV ratings and not webhits on a google website.
- Lynn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Remember when YouTube was cool? Yeah, 2 weeks ago was great.
- drgori, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Same here. YouTube also tipped me off to Countdown.
I understand why copyright holders want control over distribution of their properties. But the brief, low-quality show snippets that fans post on YouTube are some of the best free publicity a show can get.
For many shows and bands, YouTube offers them PR campaigns where the companies don't have to pay for salaries or hosting, and yet they want this to stop. So shortsighted.
In the end, the users, copyright holders, and YouTube suffer. Only the lawyers benefit. - McShaken, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23This is what happens when the CEOs and attorneys start thinking too much.... in the end everyone looses...
- revenge7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Good idea. Youtube.jp still has all of the Comedy Central content.
- vbsurfer, on 10/12/2007, -8/+25this has nothing to do with google or youTube, the attorneys from Comedy Central made a DMCA request to take down Colbert Report and Daily Show clips. (For the peeps below)
- reed311, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Well there goes a ton of free advertising for Comedy Central. Big Mistake.
- zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Perhaps if a big enough stink is raised about this Colbert might (though talent often doesn't have the pull they'd like to have with studios) be able to have the studio back their law dogs off and return the videos back to the site like Lucas did with the Star Wars material (obviously Lucas has a little more pull...).
- arunforce, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Surprisingly, there are still 4228 submissions under Colbert...
- EochaidRiata, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Comedy Central is owned by Viacom.

So expect clips from those sources to be removed as well. - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14There goes 40% of YouTube's traffic. Congratulations Google.
- ReqX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17I'd rather be subjected to medieval torture than Windows Media.
- jjk5, on 10/12/2007, -10/+24Digg won't suffer, just the "comedy videos" section will take a hit. In the end it'll be more quality stories populating the frontpage instead of getting pushed out by daily show/olbermann clips.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20Yeah - I wonder if Google thinks they overpaid for YouTube on Monday. :)
- joe90210, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16is there anything they haven't taken out yet? everyday tens of thousands of movies are removed, soon only thing we'll end up with are the worthless home movies
- Avalontor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16@mysidia
Do you really think Colbert owns all the rights to the content in his show? How about the writers/producers/stagehands/Comedy Central, all the shareholders involved and everyone that works as a team to produce his show? I guess they have no stake in the videos because their last name is not Colbert. - enjourni, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13....reason number 343,231 why the DMCA is ***** and should be repealed.
- someguyouknow, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14There is no longer a reason to visit youtube.
- FluxHarmonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11SOLUTION:
Let's keep uploading them, except we'll call them "The Colbert Rapport".
The lawyers will never find them. - jaydoug, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14wow, if they keep removing the good stuff youtube will just be a bunch of emo clips
- mrfreeziexp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I knew it.. YouTube is just like Napster. Free copywrited media will never be a reality.. Not that it should be... I suppose there really is no free lunch.
Pretty soon all we will have are those Lonelygirl videos. - eric1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11As did I. I watched the clips on Youtube for several weeks and I ended up upgrading my cable service to catch the actual show. I'm sure I'm not the only one either.
- interrogate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"Instead of spending your tax dollars where they were needed, Senator Ted Stevens voted to spend them on moronic lipsynching videos and responses to things no one cares about.
Ted Stevens. Not right for the Internets." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I sure hope Google didn't pay for YouTube yet...
They are going to hand over the money and find YouTube eviscerated of all content! - aximbigfan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10no more south park??? you bastards!!!!!
- phogasmic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12that was a stupid move on Comedy Centrals part, like Yage said, the only reason I started watching the Daily Show and The Colbert Report was because I saw they're clips posted on sites like YouTube. Once I was addicted I watched the show on Comedy Central as well as buying shows on ITunes. When are these Media jackasses going to wake up. The audience they want spends a lot of the time on the net, and we like "free" content. Not free as it doesn't cost anything, but free in that we can watch it when and where we want. F*** Comedy Central.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Don't these jerks realise that places like Youtube drive potential viewers to watch the shows??
