Don't forget Google's Searchmash:
http://www.searchmash.com/ - DirkVanAss, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29oooo alpha beta LOL
- pshultz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10a9.com has been doing this for some time.
(However, their newest design is a step backward.) - macewan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11http://au.alpha.yahoo.com/changelog.txt

==========================
1.0.0 (Peanuts)
---------------
* First public release - phenom2k7, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16Yahoo. Nothing innovative. They have just copied Google. The main page is similar, and the search results are almost identical to Google's searchmash page.
Losers. - nevetS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6When are the SE's going to learn that a simple search box with plain text results is all that people want. The bells and whistles are fun for a little while, but its all so unnecessary.
- paulmdx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Kudos to Yahoo. Given Google is practically synonymous with search these days and Microsoft have the default homepage advantage with IE I'd say it's pretty impressive Yahoo are competing at all.
- kalidav, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6AJAX for search results when the page is reloaded anyway is kinda overkill.
- mrspankeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://www.aftervote.com is still years above this...
- meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Yahoo Alpha Beta
:P - MaxCAD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4A good start... googleish, in appearance but that is OK. pages load quickly. search results were in par with google but with less BS in them from the little I did with it
- chroko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This seems to be intended for an Australian audience:
(1) ..the au. at the start of au.alpha.yahoo.com,
(2) ..the Yahoo!7 branding (they're partnered with channel 7 in Australia).
Which means they're using them as a test market and it hasn't officially launched in the US yet. - mwosh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I seem to like Yahoo's little experiments.. I thoroughly enjoy their pipes service.
- rlbigfish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wait...so other people remember Yahoo! too?
- fatbyjhnsn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I find it amazing that the sponsored search results are hidden by default. How are they going to make money on this one?
- bizchris, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Hmm, I tried "Paul Bremer" as a semi-detailed choice. Yahoo was worthless, Google less so. Google needs to put timestamps on when articles and blog postings were from, though.
- dance2die, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It looks quite amazing but in terms of usability, I am for "searchmash" for now.
I am having some problem getting side bar contents(Wikipedia, Yahoo Answers) to be responsive on IE7 because of some kind of bug. It keeps on doubleclicking and expanding the bar twice when I click on titles(Wikipedia, Flickr Photos, etc). - havaloc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1At the Alpha Beta base, a technician tells Buck Murdock that the piece of equipment he is working on has red lights that go back and forth, but no other apparent purpose. This piece of equipment has been seen in many science fiction movies and television shows (including Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation), but its function is never explained.
- ggriffit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's got neat functionality, but the search is terrible. The first thing I searched for returned bad results of which 3 on the front page INCLUDING the top result were to another search site. wtf? That's why I pushed search...not to go to another page to push it again. (I searched for a fairly well known person's name)
- jaelee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2nice!
- Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Carrot^2 >> This
http://demo.carrot2.org/demo-stable/main - munky100, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Don't they have yahoo pipes for this kind of thing?
- hautenegro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I use David Watanabe's Inquisitor for Safari which performs multiple searches in Flickr, Amazon, Wikipedia, and any other engine I can customize. alpha looks nice, but it'll take a lot more than AJAX for me to change my web research habits.
- sinnerman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Alpha was developed by Y!7 in Australia -- it's not just being tested here.
- bizchris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ah, yes, A9 - part of the prophecy...
http://youtube.com/watch?v=dKWK3xfvs-k - crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Control clicking on a link in Firefox opens a new tab but also loads the destination in the same tab. Lame and annoying and will stop me from using it.
- newsledbans, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No auto check on spelling when making a search :
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Well I don't like the little pause with the circly thing spinning... maybe if they could keep up with Google it might be ok.. but then why would I switch over when if I want that sort of layout, I could just use Google's own Searchmash?
I think I'll just stick with Google thanks. - rockmyway, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2guess what the second result of "failure" in this search engine is.... same as in google.... :) http://www.digg.com/politics/George_W_Bush_Failure_Again_Says_Google
- TheActionCombo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Wow, the login at the top right says "Hiya Guest". Yahoo needs to go fist itself.
- skiido, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1For music try this one: http://musictonic.com
- WikiEasy, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Pretty cool search engine. I like the emptiness of the homepage. However, not really sure if it's that useful.
- doc99, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Talk about Copying lol ... it's Like Windows Vista and OS X.
