- allaboutdatiki, on 01/24/2008, -0/+17hey, what's $29.5M between friends?
- fragsta, on 01/24/2008, -1/+16$29.5M is pretty good for the guy who made that Digg users seem to enjoy criticising every time they see it. He must be doing something right.
- dotlizard, on 01/24/2008, -0/+14not too shabby for starting out "mucking about with code in his Houston bedroom", eh?
- legendxx, on 01/24/2008, -0/+12I think that a lot to do with people submitting stuff to digg that links to their $3.99 hosting package
- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -0/+9cache plugin and a decent server is what it takes. Not the fantastico installed version on your $2.99 per month hosting.
- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6Most WP users I know host their own instances using MySQL, Akismet and DynDNS or NoIP.com for the A records. None of the hosting issues, all of the WP benefits. Although I do realize that my cable connection and workstation acting as server would be crushed by the Digg effect. Then again how many of us have blog entries popular enough to worry about it?
- FatLoser, on 01/24/2008, -3/+8Reminds me of the time my uncle gave me $5 for my birthday and said "sorry for molesting you." practically the same situation
- trvr, on 01/24/2008, -2/+7Good luck crashing GigaOM.
- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4my thoughts exactly when people complain about wordpress.
- jaybol, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4looking forward to them upping the ante with social community and forum plugins...this will allow people to focus more on content than hacking around in code to add features as well.
- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3Most people don't even install the cache plugin either. Then the fact you are on a shared server with 400 other crappy pages does not help.
- ers35, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3You call WordPress out for being renowned, and then proceed to state that you use Drupal because it has the highest rating?
- srg13, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2People using dirt cheap hosting on a server with 400 other sites, and not installing cache plugins does that.
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2we're talking about uptime not quality. wordpress or drupal, if you're getting high volume traffic into your $3.99/month hosting package, chances are it won't cut it.
- cyclopssmiley, on 01/24/2008, -2/+4Great, I love wordpress and I love to see people who benefit the web get what they deserve.
No sarcasm by the way. - Dotmeister, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Uncle Tom right?
- Spoomeister, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2Maybe they can buy themselves an extra goddamned server or two.
- keyo, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Drupal is great, I think of it as the best for development. But there is no reason to get all fanboyish about it.
- srg13, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Yeah, the internet connection is definitely the bottleneck in my server setup. At least I'm lucky enough to have a static IP though
- jakv5, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1The founder of Wordpress discussed the funding here: http://www.digg.com/tech_news/The_History_and_Futu ...
- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2^ Another idiot who used wordpress on shared hosting with no cache. Drupal? lol, what a hunk of *****.
- srg13, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Hate to break it to you, but saying you only eat 'organic' produce is not helping your argument...
- Konstantinopol, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Excellent! GJ Matt.
- stealth658, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1Uncle Lester the child molester
- srg13, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1You don't sound old enough to be a 'web development professional' - all these posts trashing Wordpress are pretty damn immature...
- dannomatic, on 01/24/2008, -2/+2So B Round being second round right? How much did he sell to get that funding? Just curious - if he gave control of the company away for that amount then things may change drastically for him very quickly.
Kudos regardless, it's just a point to consider when getting financing. - DAaaMan64, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1At the time, I saw no problems. You certainly didn't object.
- MyOpinionCounts, on 01/25/2008, -0/+0Awesome....I will be waiting for my cut....
- vibrokatana, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1Drupal makes a great blogging tool also, it is just plain awesome.
- vibrokatana, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1I have yet to see anything as easy to manage as drupal. Joomla makes me want to gag and everything else is either too complex, has to be extended to death or looks like 1995 wants its code back. I really love the multisite feature, I have 5 different sites running off the same code which reduces overhead and maintenance woes. Just slap in a new directory, copy the config over, throw in the database info and bam a new site.
Probably the only thing I would like is for it to not need a cron job (which takes about a second to set up and doesn't even need to be on the server) and lack of good image handling "out of the box". Both are forgivable in the fact that there are modules that fix both. - athan, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1I never understood all those people who like Wordpress. It is slow, insecure, bloated and full of amateurish crappy code.
- beluxa, on 01/25/2008, -0/+0Ok...
- awflasher, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1WordPress is changing ... - voice from China.
- AcidBurnz, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1ignore this
- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1It's not like he doesn't have to pay it back someday you know?
- Loftkilla, on 01/24/2008, -2/+1Get Drupal if you need that....it is stable and functional. and infinitely extensible.
- AcidBurnz, on 01/24/2008, -4/+3Using WordPress as the basis for a social networking site?
Because we all know how well it handles high-traffic stress. - Halukard, on 01/24/2008, -4/+2Was I the only one really hoping to get a Wordpress error when clicking on that link ?
I need more Irony !!! - ssj2119, on 01/24/2008, -3/+1awesome
- Loftkilla, on 01/24/2008, -2/+0Yes, ignore the input of an experienced web development professional with a hearty knowledge of CMSs
- Oea420, on 01/24/2008, -6/+4Good, maybe they can upgrade their shoddy hardware and database solution..
(yes, this comment will reappear about 20 times, if not 2 times before it, but hopefully i'm the first!) - Loftkilla, on 01/24/2008, -3/+1nicely put....
- Loftkilla, on 01/24/2008, -5/+3Wordpress is a terrible solution for social networks...or anything besides a blog.
Drupal is the only CMS worthy of any mention for anything other than blogging or complex shopping cart systems.
I guess if you know nothing about electronic media wordpress is your foolproof(meaning made for fools) solution. - cxzsaq, on 01/24/2008, -4/+1would be better in Euros, no?
good luck no matter what! - SevenTwo, on 01/24/2008, -5/+2Wordpress is always down for a good cause.
- shadowspawn, on 01/24/2008, -5/+2Ah. If only I was able to create a company that produces an application that *now has the stamina to retain a #1 google index on error messages rather than the the intended site's content*...
Then raise 30 mil.
I need to rethink my business model. (Or hire their sales guys)
/naw, there's no bubble. - NSResponder, on 01/24/2008, -8/+5Wow, I wonder how much they could have raised for a product that didn't suck?
-jcr - gregdogum, on 01/24/2008, -5/+2This blog is powered by WordPress. Anyone want to take a gander at how many diggs it takes to overload the site? It would definitely be quite ironic, that's for sure. ;)
