- antron, on 10/12/2007, -10/+68The greatest trick Google ever pulled was convincing the world it wasn't evil.
- Nick_Circosta, on 10/12/2007, -14/+32Google is Evil :)
- gwjc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I expected a bit more of the obvious 'evil' from it.. like what if once Google has your mail, desktop, spreadsheets, text files, domain names, website and blog; they turn around and slap a a $29.99/mo service fee on it.
- ConceptJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10@catoutfit:
And Microsoft's new motto is "Don't be Google", so what does _that_ mean? - greg544, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Very funny article... I really liked this part...

Google Murder
Why pay top dollar for a professional hit man when an amateur will do it for a few bucks and a good alibi? Google could leverage the technology behind Google Answers to match amateur killers with those looking to eliminate a business rival or key witness. While high-end assassins have all sorts of overhead and pass the costs on to you, Google Murder could match you up with sociopaths who were thinking of going on a rampage anyway, and who would be willing to shoot up the office building or motel of your choosing for a reasonable fee.
-unquote- - pairanoyd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Google is totally EVIL..
I can't believe how many people are pro google. - Greyhaven7, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14wicked cool.
sorry, that was lame. - boredzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4alt.text is a satire column. It's not serious.
- ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Ballmer always said, "I don't believe in God, but I'm afraid of him." Well I believe in God, and the only thing that scares me is Google.
- SaciPerere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3and it's really sad to see Nudity put at the same level as Torture and Murder... No digg
- acurism, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5It depends on what you classify as evil. They are a company looking to make money just like any other company...
If you want to classify that as evil, go ahead.
Still the best Search engine IMO and the only company who could give MS a run for their money. - pairanoyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here's PROOF that google is EVIL..
http://img400.imageshack.us/img400/1703/charliegoogle8kl.jpg - moojuece, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4isn't by the same person who did the brunching shuttlecocks?
done in entirely the same style as that, not sure why anyone would really take this as much more than a joke - TrueVox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Um, Google is a corperation. If they don't do everything in their power (short of satanic rituals) to increase stocks for the stock holders, they are doing something illegal. Sadly, in today's socity, illegal seems to trump immoral. They seem to do the best they can with what they have to work with (which is bajillions of dollars and a semi-tight leash).
- xioner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just saw this before it got posted :-P
Anyway, I saved it and I plan on posting a couple of those over my desk at work this summer. After all, the only thing more evil than google (at a scout camp) is a Camp Commissioner.
:-) - q3ctf4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All this talk about Google being evil reminds me of Little Red Riding Hood...
Grandmother! What big ears you have," said Little Red Riding Hood as she edged closer to the bed.
"The better to hear you with, my dear," replied the evil search engine.
"But Grandmother! What big eyes you have," said Little Red Riding Hood.
"The better to see you with, my dear," replied the evil search engine.
"But Grandmother! What big teeth you have," said Little Red Riding Hood her voice quivering slightly.
"The better to eat you with, my dear," roared the corporate evil search engine and lept out from the "Do No Evil" mask and began to chase the little girl. - neko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2While you're there, can you pick me up a licence to kill?
- Subcranium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't be Elvis.
- tylerni7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can people stop bringing up the censorship in China as proof that google is evil? If they didn't censor their results, then google would be blocked. They even made it easy to get around of you remember. As bad as censorship is, the only other option was total censorship... which one do you think is worse?
- fantasticjon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4That article was lame and not funny. worthless.
- Phoenyx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Microsoft already owns the evil market:
http://www.bbspot.com/News/2000/4/MS_Buys_Evil.html - tokyo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol that made my morning
- redog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Define evil. Google owns search. Google has quite a few very helpful products that cost no money to use and are pretty good. They might have your data, but why is that evil? This is the same mentality that the RIAA and MPAA have. You have 'my IP' you are evil. Dude when will you all learn that sharing is good. Now I know our education system is broken, this should be learned in kindergarten.
- akwhitacre, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I trust that Google is sincere in its good motives. But it's possible that might not matter: with the amount of information it stores, Google's good intentions could be shattered by a single subpoena or bad employee.
A woman at the cleaners wanted all my contact info to open up an account, and I told her I don't give out my contact info. She said, "Not even just a city?" and I said, "Sorry, no. Even the best companies can have bad things happen to them." - hevnsnt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Talk about a let down of an article.. I found the comments here more insightful than that piece of garbage
- fjodor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i will go nuts when Google Earth gets real time streaming! And it will get it real soon...
does online US-Mexico border patrol and London CCTV neighbourhood watch ring a bell? We are looking at the end of privacy as we know it... - acurism, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I thought that was Yahoo and MSN that got people thrown in jail, not Google
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Who learns anything from Google anymore and why haven't they started using Wikipedia?
- mookieXL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Who learns anything from Google anymore and why haven't they started using Wikipedia?"
What? I mean, what's so special about wiki? It's not search engine or anything like that. It's just a bunch of user-submitted articles, not much different from digg.
No seriously, it's really not the universal source of info. - mookieXL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's too realistic to be funny
- infra172, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wired: What if we Didn't Suck
- Subcranium, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2If Google were evil, it would be exactly the same.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0What IF? My god! I can understand when the pathetic little kiddies on digg think that their "Do no evil" is their true business strategy when in fact it is a MARKETING statement...but when a REAL website, supposedly with intelligent people think so?
How sad.
Google is in it for the money just like every other company. PERIOD. They have NO reason to save EVERYTHING you do, yet they do it anyway. - toliman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1i like them all ...
- speezer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3They know what you are looking for and control what you learn about it.
- TubaTechno, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5they dont' have to charge you.....they can slap you with a bunch of ads.
- kiantech, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3what if the world was round?
- truspark, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1I wonder how those Chinese dissidents that Google helped get thrown in jail for just expressing free speech feel about the "don't be evil" mantra. Not doing something that is right because it interferes with the bottom line is 10 times more evil in my mind than pulling the trigger yourself. Corporate crime like toleration of dictators as business partners and using sweatshops to create happy meals needs to be elevated to a higher crime in this country than sharing an mp3 over the internet.
- ajb2015, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6Fox News tells everyone they're fair and balanced. Kind of mirrors 1984. Name something after the opposite of what it actually is, like the Ministry of Truth. I'm not saying Google is purely evil, just that they don't, not do evil things.
- Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -12/+7Yeah, I think the "IF" part was answered in China.
@TheThirdWheel - "I've actually stopped using Google."
The only think I still like about Google is Google Suggest. If Yahoo were to roll that out, I'd use them exclusively. - TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -20/+15I agree, I've actually stopped using Google. I've had Google as my homepage for as long as I can remember, but it seems like their search results have become dramatically worse. It seems like even after I wade through the sponsored links I find a link that seems legit just to find it is just another page of links. Google is apparently broken, and since they don't seem to be fixing it they must like the money these circular schemes generate.
- Hoov, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1I think the only entity here that's evil is Lore Sjöberg, who coincidentally also looks like Jesus.
Google Murder/Torture/Blackmail? Is he serious, or just high? (Story posted 02:00 AM Jun, 07, 2006) - catoutfit, on 10/12/2007, -12/+6wait...the title of the page when you open it is:
Google: don't not be evil.
what a cheeky double negative: 'be evil'.. - MaxTheSheep, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4And what if Google isn't?
- hplovejet, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4Google isn't evil - it's wicked.
- vxsarin, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2I think the author was grabbing at staws there...
- rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -19/+6Agree with you antron, but besides that, they haven't given any reason for people think otherwise, at least by now (IMO of course)
