* Make browser full-screen
* Back off and wait for the screaming - agentwho, on 10/12/2007, -5/+94It's there in case you forget what the XP start up screen looks like, cause Windows never needs to be restarted :)
- themedallion, on 10/12/2007, -6/+77apple store anyone?
- analgesia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+67would be nice as a sceensaver. Noboby will touch your system while you're gone.
for fullscreen (kioskmode).
start => run => iexplore -k http://kirb.com/windowsxp.htm => OK - JerMe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+39Be sure to disconnect the keyboard and mouse while you're at it - that'll complete the effect
- aoe2bug, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33*Post pictures of ensuing chaos to digg.
- biometricks, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27From the meta tag in the source code:
"Watch this scrolling blue bar for as long as you wish, cuz that's all the farther this computer will boot!! Kirb" - imikedaman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24So do we just run this in full-screen mode in Internet Explorer or something?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23"wouldn't it "burn" the windows logo and other static images on your monitor after a while???"
Yes... if you're using a 20 year old monitor. - samsite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18so, i have had this open for 20 minutes, when is it going to finish loading? :)
- alwaysmc2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19"wouldn't it "burn" the windows logo and other static images on your monitor after a while???"
Oooh, I've been doing research on this! :D
Newer CRTs, no. They've fixed the burn-in problem with that. LCDs to some extent, and plasma more so than LCDs. - feeboo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20in other news:
http://www.zombo.com - mikeroySoft, on 10/19/2009, -1/+16next front page digg:
"Windows blue screen of death... in HTML!" - Blazeix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Not a bad idea, but I would worry that someone would notice that your computer had been trying to boot for a while and try to 'help' you by hard restarting your machine.
- darthsnoopy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I didnt get it when I first saw the page, but now reading the pranks..it all makes sense..brilliant!
- mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Man, its taking forever for Windows to start up.... im switching to Linux...
- ngfkjiohodns, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16P3ST4: Modern monitors don't have burn-in problems as bad as the older ones.
- ahecht, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Well, LCDs are almost invisible to burn in, and residual charge ghosting is usually only temporary. Modern CRTs are just behind that, but still can get burn in (but only when you're talking about the same thing static on screen for more than 50% of the time the monitor is on). Plasmas, even modern ones, are the worst, with some plasmas being burnt-in by static high contrast images in as little as 20 minutes during the first 200 hours of the panel life (when they are most susceptible). New plasmas claim they are burn-in resistant because of "pixel orbiter" technology which introduces jitter in to the picture, but all that does is lower the contrast of burnt-in images, not eliminate them.
- rebelyell2k5, on 10/12/2007, -11/+16yeah, dumb.
- lordthor, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14why do people digg such stupid and pointless things to the front page?
This MUST have been diggspammed by a bot of some kind. - onemillion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Holy crap! Sw33t Windows Emulator.
- babylonian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Found this in the source:
[meta name="description" content="Watch this scrolling blue bar for as long as you wish, cuz that's all the farther this computer will boot!! Kirb"]
E;FB. =[ - skoles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Awesome.
I'm glad to see this is what gets to the front page of digg now. - rabidwalrus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Lest anyone forget:
Windows Really Good Edition!
http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/winrg.php - DubbleA, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Wow. Simple, yet effective.
- Zedix79, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Hahah, I love the idea!
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My Windows XP boots in less than 10 seconds. Everyone else just has too much crap on their pc.
- trovster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I did something similar to this a while ago which can be found at http://desktop.trovster.com which doesn't stop at just the loading screen (which disappears after a very short-time, not realistic I know). Also, doesn't use ***** markup, either :)
- kikibun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3*****. Just crashed my X session with this.
- vanderaerden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The best way to use this is as a harmless prank. My coworker who has built up months worth of payback went to a meeting and I did this with it:
start>run>iexplore -k http://kirb.com/windowsxp.htm
This puts windows explorer into kiosk mode w/ that page. He came back three times looking at his machine thinking it was rebooting (I had tears in my eyes trying to hold back laughter) before he tried to do anything. Keep in mind this is a guy who routinely puts tape over my mouse so it appears as though it has stopped working. - jesterace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3make a batch script and put it in the other person's startup group
Type the following:
start iexplore -k http://kirb.com/windowsxp.htm
then save as a .bat
Enjoy ;-) - xswag, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Very funny. Let the pranks begin.
- epheterson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I.. don't know why, but I dugg it.
- wulfflower, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4 nice little trick to play on people.
I'd open it in IE, Fullscreen, then right click at the top and auto-hide. ;D - neko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you have IE, you don't need this really... it has a built-in version. Just press the little 'reset' button next to the power button of your computer.
- rabidwalrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm going insane already.... I like it
- droidiac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone know how to make safari full screen? I'd like to try the apple store idea mentioned earlier...
- ke5crz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Amazing how mischievous you can be with a simple gif image :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6boss button...
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3all caps + spelling errors = automatic (-)
- airphloo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I recently reinstalled Windows XP on my old Dell after switching to Mac last year. I was amazed at how quickly it boots up! Way faster than OS X on my G5 and even faster than Ubuntu on the same Dell laptop. Too bad it won't stay that way but it helps me feel better about switching.
- kirbtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks for the tip. Done
- zmigliozzi, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6ah hahahohoho IE, that makes me chuckle.
- SuperJared, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5None. And that's why it rules.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and I thought i didnt have a life....
- codewater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Too bad they didn't add scroll="no" to the body to remove the scrollbar in IE. Not all "victims" have Firefox...
- phenolholic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2gosh! that crap hypnotizes me. thank god my login screen is fully customized to my specifications per linux.
- gamersedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it makes it do this imediately on boot in kiosk mode moron
- murdoc43, on 10/12/2007, -35/+35lame
