- antiintel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Because texting is way cheaper than paying for Internet access on your phone, and not all phones are very easy to use on the Internet. I have the Samsung a670. I had the Internet on it for a while, but it was almost impossible to use. So I canceled it.
- seweso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm paying €10 a month for unlimited Gprs access :P. So texting for me is way more expensive.
- dextroz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2net on the phone in the US is VERY expensive ~$40/month extra per month apart from the regular $40 for the voice plan on GSM phones.

- Pplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Google has always done area code look up, and reverse number look up, just put in things like:
"609" sans quotes
609: area code for Trenton, New Jersey
This also works for reverse number look up. - samesong, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1A comparison to what features Live has that Google doesn't would be interesting. I've been using google's SMS service (by the way, if you don't know how to use it, put in "46645 in your phone and start texting away), and have been thoroughly impressed. But it looks like Microsoft has Google beat in a couple facets:
-Reverse number lookup. From what I can tell, Google doesn't have this.
-Area & Country Telephone Codes. This could be handy to find out where a call you received originated from
Other than these two features, Google has everything else Live does. They tout their ability to use a question mark to get simple questions, answer "Instant answer queries", and look up holiday dates, but Google is capable of performing these without the need to memorize any type of syntax. I tested out "mother's day" with Google SMS, and the results were exactly what I was looking for: "Q&A. Mother's Day: Date: US Mother's Day is May 14th 2006"
I'll keep MS's SMS search in my phone for quick reverse number and area code lookups, but Google is still capable of doing everything else Live can do. - thetalentguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Pleasssssse sony ericsson and nokia stay with google and don't change to ms, I beg you!
- smoothly, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2great idea but will anybody memorise the syntax? nobody even knows the "OR" usage in google - ps. happy turkey day. i'm clockin out!
- C0D3R, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I used their example for calories.
? Calories in Martini
and third down on the list was "Man charged for sex with 16-year-old girl." Gee that's gonna look real good splashed across my phone screen. - trylleklovn, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Opera Mini has google as default search engine..
If your phone doesn't support Java.. Then take your timemachine and go back to the 90'ies - bassist, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Damn coipy cats. Google sms search -> M$ live sms search. Google maps -> M$ live maps, google.com -> live.com etc etc etc. Can the copying STOP at some point?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Why can't you just do the search on a browser on the phone?
- linuxehater, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2Google won't last much longer, MS is gonna destroy google
