- rockefeller, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15If you use Windows Live Drive, the terrorists win.
- DefeatedOrc, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Why does America hate Microsoft?
- rsktkr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If "Live Drive" turns out like Office Live (clunky, strange navigation and slug like interface) nobody is going to use. Too many other options out there. My favorite thing about Office Live is having to enter my password 97 time a day. Oh, and every time I enter my password I have to enter it again because in the middle of entering it their server re-loaded the page and only half of my password got in. Love that.
- paulmdx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5There was me thinking MS would get some positive comments.. I think Microsoft are actually trying pretty hard with their Live services (let's be honest they need to). What I hope will happen is they will use their expertise gained from creating OWA for their other services. Remember Microsoft have also been raving about AJAX for a long time.
For those doubters: try Windows Live Writer (their blogging software that supports 3rd party blogs). It's actually pretty good. - ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Because of their anticompetative practices.
Because of their refusal to follow standards, by makin their own "better" "standards".
Bummer is I hate Apple just as much. - toxicredm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"Agreed. I hate Creative more than Microsoft, but I hope they try."
"Refering[sic] to a comapny[sic] should be done in singular reference not plural."
Then, shouldn't you say "I hope *it* tries."? - MrViklund, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Interesting. But Don't you think it got pulled down just to create some speculation and buzz around it?. That tactic works really well sometimes :)
- Rikkochet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I can't understand why they would have pulled the post.. He said absolutely nothing, except to say that the wikipedia entry and the other reference were in the right ballpark but not totally right.
Publicity stunt, maybe? - phraud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Uh oh, I smell an IP war between Creative and Microsoft. Creative has used the name Live Drive years, though I think they call it Live!Drive.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"MS OWA is crap unless you use IE. "
I use firefox, but clicking the IE icon to use one site that i'd like takes about 3 seconds. Really, it doens't bother me. - Himself, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2poor product testing also generates a kind of attention
- occularrifts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Live Drive?
I though this was going to be called Folder Share and was already in beta....
https://www.foldershare.com/ - TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why are people making stupid posts? Stay on topic.
I'm very interested with what they are doing, but i ain't sure i would use their service since I'm very happy with my home server and stuff which i can access from anywhere in the world anyways. :- - unknamed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Excellent argument, let me respond by saying; the blarging fargle will never heppen upon mary's blue sparklers.
Seriously, everything between "Heres why-" and "This will never be viable" made no sense. - MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have been using Foldershare for about 4 months now, and it's awesome. Live Drive will likely incorporate Foldershare's functionality, add a few gigs of online storage (access your files even when your home computer is off), and add an "upgrade" option (more storage/montly fee). There's already a few other services that do the same now.
To really differentiate themselves from others, particularly Google, Microsoft needs to come up with a "killer app" as part of their Live suite. Microsofts got some good (though still beta) Live apps, but current offerings certainly won't get anybody to drop Gmail for Live Mail, or Blogger for Live Spaces. I just hope they don't integrate everything into Vista. Choice is good. - webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Don't forget Palm's LifeDrive.
If Intel can sucessfully sue for an unrelated product being called Gentium (Latin, "Of the people")... - Hayes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1drive.live.com seems to be working as well.
- doodlebumm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I think America doesn't hate Microsoft enough. By that *I* mean that they are not hated as much as you think, but less than I wish. Americans have purchased stock in Microsoft, and by using something else, they are betraying their wallet. If they really hated Microsoft, they would sell off their stock and stop buying their products, the stock would plummet, and the company would fail. After all, the US is number one on the list of countries buying MS products. Your question is "out in left field".
- baseball31464, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know many typical home users that know how to set up WPA on their routers, let alone configure one for VPN or SSH use.... along with running a VPN server somewhere (although XP does have one... most people still don't know how to set one up).
On line storage is simple, and usually very reliable. Until a home setup is as simple, I don't see on line storage offerings losing popularity. - JimDaGeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2MS OWA is crap unless you use IE. Their Live Drive will be the same, just like Hotmail. IE-only if you want the "full experience". No thanks. I am tired of MS trying to make me use all of their products. I want CHOICE.
I would be happy to try out Windows Live Writer when they have a version for Max OS X or Linux. Oh yeah, thats right, no chioce with MS.
A few posts up, @DefeatedOrc asked why America hates MS so much. It is because they are so proprietary. They constantly try to take away choice and force you to use their products for the "best experience". I hate proprietary software. I hate having MY documents/files locked away and having MS own the key. The key should belong to me, it is my content. - mog0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Of course this is a code name...the final name is unlikely to remain the same. It will probably become Windows Live Remote Backup and Storage Space or some other tongue twister like name.
Mog - gedw99, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0These types of services will not last long. Heres why-
The number of households with a broad and conection with adecent upstream is increasily rapidly. A server and a bunch of drives in raid (or even a decetn backup system) and these people have access to all their files the way they want it with no third party telling thewm when or how much etc.
This will never be viable - HalBSure, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0"Why are people making stupid posts? Stay on topic."
Oh no you di'int! - vmerc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Agreed. I hate Creative more than Microsoft, but I hope they try. It would be great entertainment to watch those two go at it. It's obviously a trademark infringement, but MS has so many politicians in it's pocket I bet it would win.
P.S. - Refering to a comapny should be done in singular reference not plural. The company is a single entity. The company is made of individuals, and if you want to refer to those individuals then you do so in plural (i.e. "Microsoft Employees have been raving..."). There is only one Microsoft (thank god) so refer to it as so. - snurfle, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Drive-Pod
