- DeadPain, on 11/01/2008, -1/+358isn't pre-beta just alpha?
- Adam420, on 11/01/2008, -2/+111Not the version with the new task bar though :( I will wait for that.
- MadOgre, on 11/01/2008, -10/+97I actually want this version of Windows.
- sonar1, on 11/01/2008, -2/+74blows my mind, they hadnt updated that thing in since win95.
- spiffyfitz, on 11/01/2008, -1/+72I've been playing with it in VirtualBox (no virtualbox driver support yet), and the use of the ribbon-style toolbar is across a lot more apps. There's a totally new mspaint, which kinda blew my mind. Different brushes and everything. The control panel has a slightly different layout, but it's still messy. I like it so far... It's definitely a step in the right direction.
- TyroPyro, on 11/01/2008, -0/+66An entire article about comments on torrent sites wow
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -2/+61Funny that my work is finally changing everybody onto vista, and now, W7 is coming out.

- sputnike, on 11/01/2008, -3/+50Technically yes... I'm using it right now and I've got to say it's supprisingly reliable!
- borednerd, on 11/02/2008, -10/+56I guess spell check doesn't work on it yet though, eh?
- PGPirate, on 11/01/2008, -1/+39Congrats, my company still uses windows 2000
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -27/+64so what, vista is good.

- treed, on 11/02/2008, -2/+32Yes, they have. Adding jpeg support at least. In Win95 I'm pretty sure it only did bmp.
- Glorydies, on 11/02/2008, -5/+31No, because to the mindless apple fanboys "Apple can do no wrong"
- Gareth321, on 11/01/2008, -0/+24Haha, yes, yes it is. Someone needs to remind the internet of this fact.
- TonyCubed, on 11/02/2008, -6/+29Microsoft did what they needed to do with Vista, while many will say Vista is a POS etc, it isn't. It's had it's problems unfortunately, but a lot of operating systems do, especially when they are brand new. Vista is a serious milestone and Windows 7 will only show us what Vista was/is really capable of. We've only seen a few different builds since the Vista was first released, and they have already came along way. Over at Neowin, some users are benchmarking Windows 7 and it performs the same or even faster than Vista. As it's a pre-beta build, that's a huge thing. Remember Vista pre-beta and even beta's and even the RC builds? Bloody hell, they were a pain in the arse to run smoothly.
- gcnaddict, on 11/02/2008, -2/+25Huge HUGE note from a guy who has used a good number of the builds:
Windows 7 thus far is between 33% and 50% faster than Windows Vista SP1. There are more announcements coming up about Windows 7 next week at WinHEC, so keep an eye out. - peterdangit, on 11/02/2008, -1/+20My condolences...
- netdroid9, on 11/02/2008, -0/+19WinBio API, revamped notification icons section of the taskbar, awesome sexy new tablet functions (especially the new Math Input Panel), 'Libraries', 'HomeGroup', IIS7, sexy fast boot time (about 30 odd seconds IIRC) and about a bazillion other new things. The leaked version is from the WinMain branch, so stability-wise it's pretty much shippable, and I havn't found many major (or non-major) bugs in my use of it either.
- secleinteer, on 11/01/2008, -13/+32Release name is Microsoft.Windows.7.32Bit.Build.6801.DVD-WinBeta. I'm downloading it right now :D You can get it from http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4475431/Microsoft. ...
- inactive, on 11/02/2008, -6/+21i was high the other night and were saying alpha beta, alpha beta for some reason and it hit me...
alphabet!
nobody told me this all these years, wtf
true story, i swear - Wang, on 11/02/2008, -2/+17If all you are waiting for is a new taskbar, then honestly all of the other improvements and features that are present are lost on you...
- sirmasterboy, on 11/02/2008, -1/+16
Microsoft.Windows.7.64Bit.Build.6801.DVD-WinBeta
is out as well. - roxgod666, on 11/01/2008, -0/+15Yes that will be the actual beta available to the public on January. It's supposed to be impossible to download anyway right now. From the bitchy TPB comments i'm hearing, it takes about 2 weeks to download.
- Murdats, on 11/02/2008, -1/+15actually I think the interface was the same in windows 3.1 aswell, they may have added more file support but the program itself has remained pretty much unchanged for over a decade.
- Wang, on 11/02/2008, -0/+14New mspaint rocks my world
- irvin666, on 11/02/2008, -1/+15Better memory management than vista I can tell you that much. I hope Vista SP2 fixes that.
- BIOHazard87, on 11/02/2008, -2/+15Most problems people have = User Error.
- shifty2, on 11/01/2008, -1/+13This will go good with the new VMWare Workstation 6.5 that has (finally) Direct X support for the GUI.
- inactive, on 11/02/2008, -0/+12I tried in vmware it runs very well , the under the hood tweaks do make a difference, here is a screen shot

- andycr512, on 11/02/2008, -2/+13vawlsel: The Linux/Unix section is that way. Please stay out of the Windows section; you're making us look bad.
- spiffyfitz, on 11/01/2008, -0/+10I just got it in 24 hours or so, not too bad.
- CaptRR, on 11/02/2008, -4/+13I heard about this, its called the OS10 virus. Nasty little bug, it not only screws up your computer but makes you into a mindless zombie who praises Apple as your God.
- inactive, on 11/02/2008, -1/+10The vast majority if IT firms are skipping it though, as it isnt really worth it to switch and be cost effective. My company just recently went to XP just last year across the state from 2000. The process is very long with all of the required application testing that has to be done, and then reliable deployment solutions for patching and other applications. I would imagine most firms will be going to Windows 7 and skipping Vista entirely. It sounds like 7 will be much easier for older machines to run as well with the more intelligent way it handles memory allocation etc, so I would imagine not having to purchase all new hardware appeals to budgets too.

- Memnochxx, on 11/02/2008, -0/+9You shouldn't be replacing your main OS with prebeta software to begin with.
- atbnet, on 11/02/2008, -0/+9Should be the same as Vista, maybe even less since it can run on netbooks.
- Jeremyz0r, on 11/02/2008, -1/+9It uses a lot less ram and is more efficient then Vista. (Or so they state)
- KMartSheriff, on 11/02/2008, -4/+12You were expecting a good article from CNet?

- inactive, on 11/02/2008, -3/+10No, it isnt for several reasons. And I would doubt the majority of Digg users are hackers, or that hacking is the sole reason they would stay with XP.
For most of us, it makes no sense to pay for a "new" OS when Vista, as far as use goes, is basically exactly the same. Granted Vista has several vast improvements to system security and other areas, but still does not have enough features to seem worth it. Kind of a "if it aint broke, dont fix it" mentality.
7 however does seem to be a true upgrade, so some of us are excited to see this, which is what Vista should have been in the first place. - MrMayBeBanned, on 11/02/2008, -3/+10rpgmaker = clearly a noob
