- elwill, on 07/10/2009, -3/+15 My favorite part:
'the regulations will no doubt be reasonable'
Why would I doubt the gov.? - ChrisTek, on 07/10/2009, -3/+13No, let's hope the government stays out of the lives of private citizens. They already have more power than they need/know what to do with.
- deweyhewson, on 07/10/2009, -3/+10I am an environmentalist in the sense that I want this planet to be healthy for a good long time to come for my children and children's children, but the federal government has been doing nothing but bloating for the past century and it's high time we put a stop to it.
Is less pollution a good thing? Yes. But many things are "good" things. That's where private citizens and corporations can step in to educate, inform, and hopefully accomplish those "good" things. The simple fact that something is "good" does not magically make it the government's right to enforce it. So how about the government get the ***** out of mandating environmental protection? There is absolutely zero constitutional authority for the federal government to be mandating such changes.
By far, the 10 most terrifying words in the English language remain, "Hi, we're from the government, and we're here to help." - deweyhewson, on 07/10/2009, -1/+8You've gotta love the overwhelming use of such subjective words like "reasonable" by bureaucrats and pencil pushers who want nothing more than to control how other people live.
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -3/+9It's people like you that really piss me off.
You want the government to intrude on private companies like this? Stupid little statist. - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -3/+8The Fed does a great job with everything it touches. What would we do without the efficiency of the DMV or post office, or where else could we hire someone to buy hammers for $1000? Sure regulation will raise costs, benefit more established companies, and create more time-wasting beauracracies, but it's worth the piece of mind that our wonderful government is protecting us.
Now excuse me while I commit hari kari. - tnoy, on 07/11/2009, -1/+5Companies should switch to greener tech when its economically viable for them to do so, not when the government forces them to.
- tnoy, on 07/11/2009, -0/+4Most of the people I know have a very hard time understanding the fact that I'm a huge advocate for green technology, but staunchly against the idea of governement regulation of carbon emissions.
- inactive, on 07/11/2009, -0/+4What he said!
- Ymeg, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4I wonder how long it will take before they put restrictions on processors. "I'm sorry, but you need to cut back on your work. It's really taking up too much energy"
- Barackalypse, on 07/11/2009, -1/+5No they won't, because my data center is hosted in a free country, not a member of some globalist economic nanny-state.
- inactive, on 07/11/2009, -0/+4You're right. The government did basically run the phone company (not companies, mind you, it was a monopoly) at one time, and it did suck. All phones were black and it was illegal to plug in an answering machine. Now thanks to the free market we have numerous cell phone companies with every phone you can imagine and personalized plans.
Don't like Cable? Get Satelite. Rent DVDs of your favorite shows. Use hulu or something. You have options. With the government running things you don't.
If they'd keep the DMV, but let Google or someone compete with the service, I'd bet on Google winning. They'd innovate, make it easier to deal with and wouldn't cost us tax dollars in the meantime.
Look at the post office. They lose money every year and private companies like FedEx do a better job while making money. You have gmail making snail mail obsolete. We really don't need them anymore.
The less we trust government to do, the better service we'll get. - harrisbradley, on 07/10/2009, -3/+7They only mishandle things, never manhandle
- Ymeg, on 07/10/2009, -1/+4I'm pretty sure the project managers and financial officers know a bit than the environmental thugs.
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -6/+9tax the ***** out of the ships that bring all the plastic chinese crap to the states and let americans to build their own plastic crap again. now you have money coming in from people who pollute, americans have money to go to the bar again, and the globe gets colder. steak dinner boom.

- jadenton, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1Hi, we're from AIG/Chase/Citicorp/Morgan Sachs/Bank of America, and we're here to help.
- JohnnySoftware, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1Maybe but a lot of abuse happens when the people in an institution just want to make their jobs easier to do.
- Drizzit, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1You just keep your head in the sand..
- endisnighe, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1I am all for complete regression to cave man days, who's with me? This way Gore and the other elitists can do whatever they want.
- DealCracker, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1"but it will inevitably lead to increased U.S. attempts to halt global warming"
Well since average global temperature has dropped 0.5 degrees in the past 12 years....mission accomplished. Now Algore can retire to his estate and crank up the A/C and pool heater. - DerangedPenguin, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1Obama in your T.V. Obama in your automobile. Obama in your religious views, Obama your pantry, Obama in your Data Center. Hey at least Obama isn't leering at your daughters butt yet.
- inactive, on 07/11/2009, -1/+2I know you were trying to be sarcastic, jadenton, but you unintentionally made an accurate statement.
- inactive, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1All signs point to YES.
- jrm125, on 07/10/2009, -6/+7Hopefully they just start dumping crap like MySpace from the internet...all that glittery ***** must send quite a bit of CO2 into the atmosphere.
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -4/+5No...
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -4/+4MAY? MAY be in the cross-hairs?
EVERYTHING is in the cross-hairs. - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -1/+1But Uncle Al Gore says if we don't agree with him we're Nazis. So we have to agree with him.
- enzomedici, on 07/11/2009, -1/+1Global warming is NOT man made, period. The earth has been going through warm tropical periods and ice ages long before human beings even existed. So how the ***** can we be causing it? If we exist or not, the earth will warm & cool all on its own. We are not the cause folks. Wise the ***** up.
- jadenton, on 07/10/2009, -2/+2Yes, the DMV would be so much better if they where run by the same private interests that run the phone companies. Or the cable companies. Or the investment banks like Leahman brothers. Or the insurance companies like AIG.
- jadenton, on 07/13/2009, -1/+1@genitalben said "The less we trust government to do, the better service we'll get." This is exactly the kind of non-sequitar I expect from someone who takes a user name based on his private parts. Then again, he also appears to be getting the old AT&T monoploy confused with the government. So maybe thats just to be expected.
- amirbd, on 07/11/2009, -1/+1The problem is that the "market" is not predictive enough to self-regulate on this time scale. While some will say that global warming and cooling occur via natural mechanisms, it is a matter of pure physics and chemistry that the quantities of C02 we have and are releasing will warm the world, and likely knock over the very careful patterns and balances of this planet. The markets reacting then will be too late.
The function of government is to be like a head (as in brain) to the body of civilization, averting us from danger before it becomes present. Like it or not, it serves as the 'executive function' for our society, and it is necessary.
Homework: Are federal fuel efficiency standards a bad thing? Did "the markets" like them? - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -2/+1Jesus Christ...
- JaseFace, on 07/10/2009, -9/+4WILL THE FEDS SHOW UP IN BLACK HELICOPTERS TO ABDUCT YOU? WHO KNOWS, BUT YES!
- xmaschimp, on 07/10/2009, -19/+9Let's hope the feds do intrude in the data center -- companies definitely need a push to finally take a look at how much energy they're using, and once they do, they usually find out how easy and rewarding it is to save energy...
