- benroy, on 07/26/2008, -8/+165Well for one thing, Goolge video has porn.
- killerknives, on 07/26/2008, -1/+133Google video tends to be less moderated. You can find alot of full documentaries and movies you can't find on youtube.
- reddikilowatt, on 07/26/2008, -1/+93Google Video's strength is the long form video. I think they also let users upload high resolution videos (at 16X9), at least it looks that way to me. I think there is space for another branded video service, but it might just need a little marketing and support from content providers. Google seems like they don't want to do any marketing other than viral, and it keeps good products from getting into the public mind.
- anagoge, on 07/27/2008, -0/+79If you're using Google Video for porn, YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG.
- psevium, on 07/26/2008, -1/+61Google should upgrade Google Video to have HD videos (I haven't found any, they may already have it) or to basically replace Stage 6 which was awesome for high quality videos.
- calenerd, on 07/27/2008, -1/+58Google Video allows download. That pwns.
- VSKBadCRC, on 07/27/2008, -0/+50Not only that, my reason for going to Google Video is that it's search engine pulls up videos from other video service providers that I wouldn't know of, let alone even being able to search from , a lot of obscure ones that aren't hosted in the US. There are times when I can find TV shows on other service providers outside of the US on Google Video that I won't find on places like YouTube.
- algaeturd, on 07/27/2008, -1/+52This is a retarded question. Youtube ain't ***** in terms of video. You can watch entire movies (public domain) on Google video at a higher resolution and in bigger chunks. The file size limit for youtube is embarrassing. It only helps those who want to do video blogs or post music videos. Who designs their videos around the 10 minute time limit or whatever it is?
I avoid youtube at all costs. It's only good for high schoolers who think that people care about their ***** opinions as they 'vlog' their young, worthless lives away.
Oh, and old music videos or concert footage shot with the MOST HORRIBLE resolution ever compressed even more horribly.
Yep, youtube sucks dick. Bring on legitimate competition. - xptoast, on 07/27/2008, -0/+44Google video is good because of its better options. It allows longer videos as well as better resolutions. I like it a lot better. The only part that blows chunks is the comment system.
- BlackCow, on 07/27/2008, -0/+39I like google video because it is less public. Its just a place to put your video without comments and a profile and all that other social stuff.
- iamcitiz3n, on 07/27/2008, -1/+36i PREFER google video over youtube. Don't you dare touch it.
- cheezintern, on 07/27/2008, -0/+31They have a lot of good documentaries.
- rz8472, on 07/27/2008, -0/+28Google video is great for documentaries. Just search something like 'BBC', 'PBS', etc and specify length >20 minutes and you will get literally thousands.
- Nick22, on 07/27/2008, -0/+28ditto on that. Id much rather watch a documentry from google video then have to watch it in like 8 different parts on youtube
- prgmctan, on 07/27/2008, -7/+33shut up
- Nick22, on 07/27/2008, -0/+21as opposed to the wonderful youtube comment system right?
- xptoast, on 07/27/2008, -0/+18Google video is like your grandpa. Youtube is like a four year old. Attention span and worth of videos.
- PabloMac, on 07/27/2008, -0/+16YouTube is for the masses.
- psYcon, on 07/27/2008, -0/+16agreed. Stage 6 by far was the best video website in terms of quality, it's really sad that its now taken down. I had my PC hooked to my hometheater system and LCD HDTV and using a wireless keyboard+mouse was able to view top of the line content right there on my couch. In fact I even shut off my cable because of this setup.!
- cplex, on 07/27/2008, -1/+16***** that. I'm watching a documentary on Google Video right now. It's kick ass.
I just wish they'd get rid of Youtube videos from the search results. If I wanted to see Youtube videos, I'd go to Youtube! - SHUUTOBI, on 07/27/2008, -1/+14It's also a search hub for video on all websites crawled.
- elcow, on 07/27/2008, -0/+13Just add "-site:youtube.com" to your search.
- zirkle2007, on 07/27/2008, -2/+15I just want to thank you. Your comments have kept me laughing all night...even if they are getting buried.
- compgeek, on 07/27/2008, -0/+12I agree with a lot of posters here. google video blows away youtube in terms of being able to watch documentaries and public domain movies in their entirety that and none of the stupid comments and other crap. google video> youtube always will be
- inspecality, on 07/27/2008, -1/+12Stop doing this.
- roflbrothel, on 07/27/2008, -0/+11I like Google Video just fine.
Also Wired sucks. Buried for being Wired. - Nosrac, on 07/27/2008, -3/+14Oggle* ;)

- inactive, on 07/27/2008, -3/+13Man digg people are GREAT at recognizing jokes.
- inactive, on 07/27/2008, -2/+10I need googlevideo to see and show conspiracy videos to wake my fellow citizens up!!!!
- usingpond, on 07/27/2008, -0/+8They search all videos, across multiple networks, that's why. Argument destroyed.
- noogymmij, on 07/27/2008, -0/+8You must be new.
- feeboo, on 07/27/2008, -0/+8http://video.google.ca/videosearch?q=duration%3Alo ...
I have this bookmarked in my Bookmarks>Bookmarks Toolbar Folder>Video>Documentaries
and i've searched for BBC and PBS as well.
I guess this will be my addition to the debate:
Google Video, as far as I know, was the first to allow the user to click anywhere in the timeline and the video would start loading from there. It may have been done before, that point is irrelevant. But if your browser screws up or something else, you could always just reload the link and click to where you were. Youtube didn't bring out this ability until WAY after the acquisition. And although it's great to be able to do that on youtube, Google Video is still superior in many other ways.
You say google video should die? I say youtube should die. Viva la Google Video! - zboyet, on 07/27/2008, -0/+7They are great but their 500mb upload a week limit sucks. Their video quality is just great.
- ehrichard, on 07/27/2008, -0/+7It won't die because Google doesn't want it to. Look at Best Buy in Canada; they own their biggest competitor, Future Shop. Best Buy has better prices, non-commissioned sales and more knowledgeable employees. The competition drives customers to shop at Best Buy, therefore increasing revenue. The ones that don't shop at Best Buy still spend their money at Future Shop, therefore increasing revenue again. This strategy works so well that when Best Buy finishes their launch in Mexico, it will be a full dual brand system as well. The same thing applies with YouTube and Google Video. They are two different communities with different users. Alienating one community doesn't make sense from a business standpoint; two products equals more page views and therefore more AdSense revenue. Also, YouTube has corporate customers who get featured videos as well as regular Joes who pay for the same. As far as I know, Google Video is completely free in every sense.
- Jack8274, on 07/27/2008, -7/+14Religion on digg? Better wear your flame retardant suit.
- koreaski, on 07/27/2008, -0/+7google video is awesome. they've got a bunch of great adam curtis bbc docs on there.
- GBladeCL, on 07/27/2008, -0/+7vreel
- t4ll3y, on 07/27/2008, -1/+7I know 4chan is down, but that's no reason to troll digg.
- demodawid, on 07/27/2008, -0/+6I'm surprised nobody mentioned the superiority of google video's player over youtube. Google video lets me go frame by frame, and is generally more robust. I wish they'd use the same player for youtube.
- DuffyDirect, on 07/27/2008, -0/+6i like it because you can download the videos for ipod/psp -- if youtube did that i wouldnt use google video
- inactive, on 07/27/2008, -3/+9"Having watched porn on Google Video, I can tell you it is definitely non-christian."
Where can I find Christian porn? Does that german video of the priest eating ***** out of a nun's ass count? - xptoast, on 07/27/2008, -1/+7Big ups for that option. Although downloading in an mpeg format or something that doesn't require Googles own player would be great.
- DismantleRepair, on 07/27/2008, -0/+6Because you can post videos longer than 10 minutes.
- Sanalisnail, on 07/27/2008, -5/+11Succesful troll is successful
- dantanle, on 07/27/2008, -0/+6People talk about the evil Google monopoly but killing of Google Video would lower the competition in streaming video. It's carved out it's own niche and offers it's own flavor of service that's unique from that of Youtube. Just look at the videos featured on the front page of each site and you can see the difference. Most Youtube videos are made to try and get popular, generate tons of hits, and receive massive amounts of comments while Google videos more likely to be put up without such mainstream intents. Homogenizing the industry would just be a crime to diversity.
- anagoge, on 07/27/2008, -2/+7I believe Vimeo is slowly gaining a hell of a lot more traction, especially now that Stage6 has met its demise. I love Vimeo's quality and their recent banning of videogame footage is, I believe, a step in the right direction to making sure that it has quality, rather than quantity, which is more than can unfortunately be said for YouTube.
- mynameistux, on 07/27/2008, -0/+5let us bow down to our google over lords.
