- kaelyiesta, on 12/07/2007, -0/+31Challenging my ass. We the people fronted a bill to lay fiber across the country to improve service and the telcos have sat on that stash using just enough of it to keep them in power while they use the rest to bribe the FCC et al. Those ***** wouldn't know what competition meant to save their pathetic lives. A big ***** you to all those corporate liars in bed with their government counterparts. These only "rough stretch" going on here is how badly us consumers are being ***** by both government and business on this one.
- craftyguy, on 12/07/2007, -1/+20Buried as inaccurate.
- Vipersfate, on 12/07/2007, -0/+17I don't see how this is good for Comcast customers. I thought this was going to be something about their bittorrent interference, not their sales.
- f4nt0m4s, on 12/07/2007, -2/+17***** you, comcast
- Hockey13, on 12/07/2007, -0/+11You know what would put a real crimp in Comcast's growth plans? Actual competition.
Why? Because a drunken, retarded chimpanzee juggling burning torch-machetes could operate more efficiently. Then all of us could buy Chimpcast. - testbenchdude, on 12/07/2007, -0/+9As soon as Verizon offers FIOS in my area I'm switching unless Comcast somehow miraculously rolls out their own FIOS system before that happens. And you know what? I'm one of the lucky few who've had nothing but good experiences with Comcast, their technicians, and their customer service. It's the people like me who they have to fear losing because while I'll sing their unsung praises to all who will listen, I'll also be the first to drop them in light of better, faster, and newer tech.
Side rant; I live in FREAKING SILICON VALLEY. SRSLY. VERIZON--WHERE'S MY FIOS???????
meh, sorry for that, it just blows my mind sometimes... - ftwn00b, on 12/07/2007, -2/+10thats ***** gay. ***** comcast.
- trump48257, on 12/07/2007, -0/+7Now that would be interesting to watch.
- Genma, on 12/07/2007, -0/+6yet another bs pr op where they work in the blatant slap in the face to your customers term of "competitive" or "competition" or "compete." if you go and type the word "comcast" into the search box up there and scan any article where someone speaks on behalf of this company, I gaurantee you see some iteration or reference to this word each and every time a comcast rep is quoted. coincidence?
- Phasmorphage, on 12/07/2007, -0/+4Seriously, except I live in Los Altos/Mountain View (right near San Jose) and all we have AT&T and Comcast.
Those are possibly 2 of the WORST service providers imaginable. - pappy97, on 12/07/2007, -0/+4Dude I'm in SV too and I've been complaining about the lack of FIOS too. I've complained to everyone and unfortunately we aren't getting it anytime soon. In fact we may live out our entire lives and never see it in Silicon Valley. Thanks for NOTHING Verizon!
- dopesick, on 12/07/2007, -0/+3I hear you man! I had comcast HSI. I couldn't stand their business practices, nor their pricing tiers anymore. I had DSL at one point, and it really sucked. Then again this was when they first rolled it out in my area. It got better as time progressed. When comcast came available it was the fastest / for the price. So I bit into their cake. 2 years later the cake is a lie.
HiTech Capital on the west coast. They can't even get cellphone to work correctly here. Where's our FIOS? Sacramento has FIOS, small NON-Metro areas of California have FIOS, why not the entire bay area?
Comcast and the Telco's have a large part of that I am sure of. - Spanq, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2I can't. They're the only cable company. Can't get Internet with a dish and I'm not paying Qwest $40 for ***** DSL that's a pinch faster than dial-up (nor can I get it in my area anyway).
- DarkShroud, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2You have no idea what you're talking about with XP SP2. The XP Firewall is there to protect your PC until you install a good firewall. And that limit really isn't a limit, you just have to konw how to work with it, as most BitTorret clients that matter do.
- johnpaul191, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2well, they said that their growth will not be as big as expected for 2007. they also said that the economy and housing market means 2008+ may not be so great either.... and they expect to lose a certain amount of customers to Verizon etc. now they don't expect to lose customers, let alone money.... they just won't grow quite as fast as they thought.
They keep complaining that Verizon and AT&T may not have their momentum in home TV service, but those guys have so much more money.
anyway.... after Comcast talked about this, their stock promptly dropped 12%. i guess the theory is that they need to do more to keep customers because Verizon etc bringing in FIOS is going to finally give people options.
any business that can not keep customers in a non-monopoly situation doesn't deserve them. - silverhunt, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2Buried as BS...boring & stupid
- davidrools, on 12/07/2007, -1/+3and pay tivo $7/mo on top of comcast? build a media center pc and you'll be much happier :)
- eclectro, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2I agree, buried as inaccurate. Comcast is using their position to screw over customers and offer substandard service. If they were laying fiber out, that would be another thing. But they aren't.
- vwvan, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2We unplugged from Comcast almost two years ago and haven't missed it.
Saved ALOT of money. - calenerd, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2BURIED. this must be Comcast's PR Team's work.
- Spanq, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2"you don't grasp the entire concept in mass amounts of people dumping comcast"
I grasp your concept just fine. But again, I don't have a choice. It's either pay a ***** company for cable or pay a different ***** company and that ***** Ron Burr for a phone line and dial-up. I'll pass on having the Internet of the 90's, thanks. - m00nmaster, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1Next on Animal Planet!
- renegadeafk, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1noob
- TheZorch, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1The actually Calendar end of the year isn't the end of the fiscal year for businesses. Its actually on a different day.
- lorductape, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1dear comcast
is you or isnt you blocking my torrentz tubes? - johnpaul191, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1i live with people that insist on having cable TV. Comcast has kept competition out of our city so far. we have had 4 or 5 different DSL providers and they are all wretched. Verizon's copper lines are a noisy disaster. they barely maintain them, and i can only assume it's because *one day* they will be replacing it all with fiber. as much as i dislike supporting Comcast, the internet access is literally the same price for 5x the speed of any DSL we have tried.
- joshuakuhn, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1Comcast is doing something that "may be good for it's customers"?
Buried as inaccurate - davidrools, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1I was in mountain view the other day and picked up google's wifi on my cell phone.
- testbenchdude, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1Dugg all you guys. Thanks for the sentiment, glad I'm not the only one who doesn't get it.
- slimnickyy, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1***** duh. Competition made them rethink their strategy to become more competitive which is good for consumers. This concept is hardly new.
- theblacknight, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1Some of us would have to pack up all our belongings and find a new place to live in order to change providers. Gotta love the "free market" economy.
- davidrools, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1Comcast is bad for it's customers period.
- AuburnTigers, on 12/07/2007, -3/+3I just wish Comcast would finally ***** bring us the Tivo interface for their ass-***** DVR system. Then I'll be satisfied.
- dopesick, on 12/07/2007, -0/+0I understand but you don't grasp the entire concept in mass amounts of people dumping comcast. Yes indeed many of us *(myself I have dumped them) would be forced to downgrade. Possibly pay MORE for the speed we have now, over DSL (6.0Mb DSL is common in my area). I left SBC to go comcast. For 6 months it was a living hell. After that it was fine. Then after my 1 year contract, I was paying double for the same service. I called in to canel and only recieved a 3 month "plan" to cut the price. I've called in 4 times this year to complain/threaten to drop them. After 2 years at my initial contract price, they said they would no longer cut my rate. UNLESS, I added their stupid voice service. So I dropped them. I'm actually paying $2.29 more to AT&T then I was to comcast, for just slightly lower speed *(accounting for TCP/IP Overhead of course). There are other options, although they come with consequences.
- rickrichard, on 02/07/2009, -0/+0It's interesting to see the comments and how Comcast has such strong feelings both pro and con from their customers. I saw similar comments on the repaircable forum http://www.repaircable.com/
Some interesting stuff there about different comcast customer service experiences and comcast repairs. - RizzoFrank, on 12/07/2007, -0/+0ordering CMCSTFY license plate today.
- radiofrequency, on 08/13/2008, -1/+1Silicon valley is a terrible place for network access because the democrat communists and "well-meaning" corporate idiots like Google try to spread free wi-fi. This threatens growth of dedicated markets for access like FiOS because for most people, 768Kbps - free of charge - is enough.
Write your city officials and tell them to ***** off. In Palo Alto, the city council has been promising fiber to the home (100Mbps connections!) for over a decade and the only services available in the area are 1.5Mbps DSL (basically ATT), Comcast crap, or dedicated T3 lines at $2000/month+. - and303, on 12/07/2007, -1/+0How many of you Comcast haters send a big fat check to them once a month?
- dopesick, on 12/07/2007, -4/+3Pulled from story: "Comcast just adjusted its business outlook for 2007. The company is now shooting for 11 percent sales growth rather than "at least 12 percent," and in a case of swift poetic justice, the stock price dropped 12.3 percent yesterday."
Uhm.. It's December 2007. How does one adjust its whole year outlook 3 weeks before the END of the year and get away with it?
***** Comcast. It's time that people get their heads out of their ass, and stop complaining. Don't complain, change providers! - theclaw1, on 12/07/2007, -2/+1Yeah... First straw was the Service Pack 2 "upgrade" for Windows XP. Makes LANs just about impossible to set up well, and slows down speeds of file sharing networks unbelievably. Now it's ISPs all over trying to cut down BitTorrent. *****!!
