- sockpuppets, on 12/04/2008, -0/+26How about launching google auctions and putting the final nail in ebay's coffin?
Sockpuppets, future CEO of google. That's right analysts, when you're on a video conference call with me you'll be staring into my brilliant button eyes and wondering how a puppet could be so wise. - cyrusuncc, on 12/04/2008, -0/+21just use it by going to gmail.com
- Autodidaddict, on 12/04/2008, -1/+21While I'm not a fan of everything Google...it would be a shame for them to cut too many of their projects. While 97% of their revenue does come from ads, for them to only focus on this would be doing a great disservice to themselves and everyone.
Innovation costs money, but it's an investment that benefits everyone. - ahawks, on 12/04/2008, -0/+19With as popular as gmail is, and beloved, did it occur to you that you might be doing something wrong?
Have you considered contacting gmail support? Asking a friend?
Are you aware the gmail widget on the iGoogle page is just that - a widget. It's not the full blown gmail interface, for that, go to gmail.com.
From there, there's a Contacts link on the left. - ds143, on 12/04/2008, -3/+20LOLZOLOZLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLZ! THAT'S FUNNY BECAUSE THAT'S THEIR MAIN BUSINESS!
LAWL - netgeek06, on 12/04/2008, -0/+17Lively already taken down.
- webkami, on 12/04/2008, -3/+18FTA: "I wouldn't bet on Google Mars seeing future development, though"
I would love if some years later we have a detailed imagery of complete mars if not a colony and the author is proved wrong. - voldron, on 12/04/2008, -1/+16Google Search
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+12On a related note, Google Checkout better not be going anywhere soon. After struggling with the mess that is the Paypal sandbox to add payments to a client site (Paypal at their request) I'll be making sure I recommend Google Checkout as an easy payment option to clients from here on in.

- trystero49, on 12/04/2008, -0/+12Failing at some products means they're doing something right (trying).
- crawfishsoul, on 12/04/2008, -0/+11I use Google Notebook for anything I'm researching. From work research to what kind of tires I want to buy to planning camping trips with friends.
Does anyone have a similar service they use that they recommend? If this author is right then I want to start copying my ***** now. I have everything Google that I use backed up (email/docs, etc) except for Notebook. - DiscoUnderpants, on 12/04/2008, -1/+11Ummm... I use GOogle Notebook everyday. Its got a great firefox plugin. I use it to keep work and web related notes :(
- ahawks, on 12/04/2008, -2/+10Man if Google is cutting back because of the economy, things must really be bad.
- tommasz, on 12/04/2008, -1/+9You're clearly not Brazilian, are you?
- chancesarent, on 12/04/2008, -0/+8Hopefully GOOG-411 sticks around.
- Carpy, on 12/04/2008, -1/+9I hope none of the Docs bites it. I've just started using them, finally.l
- godssonisme, on 12/04/2008, -0/+8Lively wasn't that interesting though. Very "cheap".
- adrenalinerush, on 12/04/2008, -1/+7Knol
- Autodidaddict, on 12/04/2008, -0/+6I'll let Eric know this at the next big meeting....
- yayster, on 12/04/2008, -0/+6They are not going to axe the space elevator project, are they?
* looks worried * - jerrycan, on 12/04/2008, -1/+7Don't take my google docs away!
- steviesteveo, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5This is a fairly innocous looking comment but the use of "Keyhole" instead of "Google Earth" makes me wonder if this is a display of commentator's own knowledge post.
- steviesteveo, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5It takes a special kind of person to be that bad with an easy to use web interface and then to blame the hugely popular company who made it easy to use.
To quote a lolcat: You're doing it wrong. - rreadysetno, on 12/04/2008, -1/+6If you like spending a bajillion dabloons on nothing.
- cesclaveria, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5the point of the igoogle gmail app is to be fast and easy to use, too much functionality in it and it wouldn't make sense to have it there, the contact address auto completion works fine... if you really need some of the advanced functionality you should click on the link that says "compose on gmail"
- inactive, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5Good plan. Don't become Yahoo.
- Autodidaddict, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5Why actually read the article when it's more fun just commenting?.......
- freehunter, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5Glad to know only things useful to you are important. We'll make sure that everything you don't use on the internet is taken down.
Although I agree, why the hell is google video still around? - bbart3d, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5I just started using Google Notebook and I agree it's useful. Let's hope they don't yank things like this down before we have a chance to copy our notes somewhere else.
- ScottishMcDuff, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4To get to the other side?
- inactive, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4Whatever they choose to remove obviously.
- RobotBuddha, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4I too hope that grandcentral isn't dropped. It's a great service, and google seems to have just bought it, totally closed registration, and then done absolutely nothing with it since. I expected some cell tie in, but nope, it just sits there.
- ScottishMcDuff, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4I agree. Google Checkout is the bomb.
- flarn2006, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4Calls recorded. Google! Say the business, and the city and state!
- ahawks, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3FTA:
"So you can certainly assume that all the big business-related services such as Google Apps, Google Docs, Gmail, Google Finance and others will remain." - inactive, on 12/04/2008, -2/+5This is but the first step of Googles metamorphosis into a real corporation. I'm willing to wager you'll see dramatic cuts in the perks and other goodies. Eventually Google will be nothing more than Yahoo, Microsoft, Sun...successful and a business.
- Simplysped, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3in b4 beta
- Autodidaddict, on 12/04/2008, -3/+6Chrome actually is doing quite well. Maybe not financially but they've captured way more of the market share than a browser only being out a few months should.
And it is faster than even....*gasp*....FireFox - snoogit, on 12/04/2008, -1/+4Only thing keeping me from completely switching to chrome is Firefox's delicious plugin.
otherwise, I'd be completely moved over. - eldridgea, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2I love Google Checkout!
When I do computer repair I can send invoices by email and they just click pay and it is straight in my bank account. - brianpocock, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Please dont be google mail, i need my google mail!!!!!!
- UselessTrivia, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2It doesn't surprise me at all that Google is losing value faster than the overall market. They make 97% of their money through ad sales. It's a retarded thing to do, but advertising is often one of the first things companies cut back on when times are tough. Thus ad companies are hit extra hard by economic downturns.
- mediaspree, on 12/04/2008, -2/+4Google docs has completely eliminated the need for me to use any Microsoft product ever. Keep it!
- csarak, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2That would be rather silly of them, wouldn't it? I imagine Mail is up there with their most popular products, and it's not hard for them to squeeze some ads in. They are searching your emails though :D
- wshs, on 12/07/2008, -0/+2How about groups? They've virtually destroyed Deja News, and the resultant product is nothing but an infinite cesspool of spam, which they do nothing about. Coincidentally, the same thing happened with blogger... and youtube.
- flarn2006, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2lively
- iseth, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2The only thing I'm worried about is GrandCentral. I don't think they've done anything with it since their acquisition, but it's invaluable for a lot of people.
- daviddiaz, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2I like Chrome, but I can't commit to it. It's faster, but it also crashes (it has at least 2 or 3 times for me). The interface is simpler, but not as versatile, and using Privoxy instead of Adblock is weird and messes with my system-wide LAN settings.
Maybe when it's more stable and has similar add-ons to Firefox, I'll switch. I honestly think it's a good browser. It's out of the way, and using it feels like running in spikes as opposed to Training shoes. I'll wait for it to stay in the oven a little longer and consider moving in with Chrome. - anteyekon4myst, on 12/04/2008, -4/+6I put my money on Google Search getting cut.
