- JeffT1545, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29Come by my house on January 1, I've got a Christmas tree to sell you.
- 350Zed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27You can't buy EVERYTHING... where would you put it? EVERYWHERE?
- steve1999, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19@u8myfoood
Actually it's called black friday (the day after thanksgiving) becuase it's the first day that many retail stores books go into the black (not negative) for the year. - Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I bought the sweetest flatscreen during Super Bowl Week. Best time to buy a TV. Try to hold off until then.
@ scooter
Something is definitely wrong after the update this morning. The stories are flying onto the front page with little to no Diggs or comments. - thefirelane, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9In summary: When you don't need it anymore
- gharding, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Baby Clothes
When to buy: During your pregnancy.
O RLY? - LordSigh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Awwww, I'll never get my PS2.
- BigEazy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7And all this time I've been buying my wedding dresses in the summertime. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid!
- u8myfoood, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10black firday, best time to get dvd+/-r's and cd-r's!
practically free! - pumacub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You don't need to eat after Sunday evening?
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They said quite clearly that the new algo is all about "Digg diversity". That means less emphasis on digg count and submission age.
- zeptobyte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I always thought it was called Black Friday because it sucked for the cashiers.
- duewydo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Not to be a prick, but what if you miscarry, then what? just write it off as a bad deal?
- Markie1006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4TKTS Times Sq is where all the tourists go.
Avoid the long lines and go to the one Downtown, it's much quieter, and they have exactly the same ticket choices.
It used to be in the WTC, but now it's at South Street Seaport.
(my apartment is a few blocks away) - Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I would amend the "cars" entry to say that the best time to buy is during the last few days of September. Not only is the dealership trying to clear out the previous model year's inventory, but they are also trying to hit their sales quotas. Buying on the last few days of the month puts additional pressure on the sales manager to close the sale quickly.
- Jeebugorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4totally agree about super bowl weekend and tv's. we bought a 60" hdtv at circuit city for $900. true, it may be an older crt projector....but its 60".....and has hdmi. will do until we find $100,000 in a bag on the side of the road and can afford the 60" sony sxrd (or whatever they are calling their new technology).
- porkstacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So, when is the best time of year to buy anal lube in bulk? Tampons? Worcestershire sauce? Brake fluid? 80lb. cover stock? Rubber exhaust hangers? Retro encabulators??? These are things I want to know now!!!
- sogracefully, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3don't take this the wrong way, but:
ru-486, chemical abortion pill = actually causes the body to abort a conceived embryo/fetus, meant for when there is already an actual pregnancy (this cannot happen "the morning after"; conception takes much longer than that to actually happen); generally composed of methotrexate or mifepristone, and misoprostol or gemeprost
plan b, emergency contraception, morning after pill = preventive, meant to prevent conception (can take it after the sex happens to help keep fetuses/abortions from happening); generally composed of the same thing birth control pills are made with--a progestin, most often levonorgestrel
i realize you're joking, but it's not so funny when religious zealots call EC "abortions" because they aren't, and it's really really important to maintain the distinction between these two things in people's everyday understanding, so that's the only reason i'm being a jerk and correcting you. - Daedalus81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They meant older models. You know...like when AMD cut prices up to 50% when the Conroe came out?
- noGoodNamesLeft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If it's an artificial one, chances are you *will* get a good deal.
- scuba7183, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3did you take your pills today?
- sogracefully, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3EVERY DAY! party at your house!!
- EochaidRiata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3In other news:
best day to buy christmas tree: Dec 26
best day to buy pumpkin: Nov 1
best day to buy RU-486: the morning after - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The basic idea here is to show up the day after the season ends -- 'cause stores *do* have leftover crap at that point, so they firesale it.
- davidrools, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2or try again, i guess...
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5@trejrco...
Actually, Wikipedia says:
The origin of the name is commonly believed to be tied to the fact that the heavy shopping day after Thanksgiving is when many retailers are thought to become profitable. Businesses once recorded losses in red ink and gains in black, a tradition that lives on in modern accounting software, hence the name. The earliest recorded (modern) usage of the name suggests the latter as being closer to the true name origin. - Pyloff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Buy buy buy.... Consume. Good advice though.
- carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2While sales quotas are important to salesmen at dealerships, the motivation to move a car off the lot by months end is because of the cost of having the car on the lot for another new month. Dealers lease cars from manufacturers to sell, so every month they have the car on the lot, they're paying that lease for that month(albeit a lower price then what we pay of course).
So buying at the end of august or the end of september is typically the best time to buy for the best deal. And of course, always demand more money off the price, even late in the game. Make them throw in free oil changes, tire rotations, cleaning after every service....The worst they can say is no, and you have the power to always walk out.
Chip- - trejrco, on 10/12/2007, -16/+17Why's it got to be a black thing? :)
- cmw72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really think you are on to something with the new algorithm. The RSS feeds have been jam packed with low-digg, low-comments stories all day long.
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1September is a great time to buy NEW cars because of the new year's models... but there are other good times to buy used cars, or just cars in general.
Weekdays are good. Stormy days are excellent. Winter is good. End of the month is good. Winter/weekday/stormy is because it reduces the number of sales they'll have that day/week, and so they are more desperate for your money.
End of month is good because they're trying to get their numbers high before the end of the month, so they look good on paper. Again, desperate for your money. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The example is the ipod too, like a 25$ discount is a deal...
Who would buy an outdated piece of tech for just 25$ less?
A better example would be all the radically marked down Core Duo systems out there... - starexplorer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nice formatting
- spritom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Airline tickets...
yeah, we've all heard the "advance" ticketing which does save money. But there's also the January/July price promotions. They aren't guaranteed to happen, but I see it most years. usually the first or second week of January there might be a week or two of really good deals. Same thing with the second or third week of July. If you know when you're going to fly a long time in advance, this can save the bucks. Most airline systems are set up to sell tickets 330 days in advance of the flight. - Shivetya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Serious here...
Best time to buy a Christmas tree, 3 days or less before Christmas.
You can get them nearly free. Frocked trees for $5. Even the "big dealers" will practically give you the trees. - rohit12, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1The best time to buy any thing is "NOW" who is going to buy an out dated peace of junk, no matter how cheap it is, if its of no use. This opinion holds in properly market also.
http://www.yourpropertyclub.com/index.php?p=311 - clickwir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Great idea, if stores actually carried these items in the "off season".
- surfing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The item about Gift Cards does not apply to California.

http://digg.com/software/Cool_way_of_finding_bargains_on_eBay - duewydo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is a very thorough guide. Some stuff is obvious but hey its all in one place, Ill save this for later reference. Nows the time to buy corn on the cob!
- JrGhoull, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0its been my personal experience (and the article seems to go along with this) that the best time to buy anything is the day after it was useful ie candy the day AFTER holloween for instance.
