Definitely powerful web apps will be the new sites to emerge as forerunners to the new way of experiencing web sites. Thank god we will be seeing the last of the glass buttons and reflective floors which were hokey even when they were accepted. The flat softer motifs and colors with sharp lines will be prevalent.
it's not like everyone's going to get a dialog saying
"a new version of web is available (3.0) would you like to upgrade?"
it's just going to be a gradual adoption of new technology, like css and svg was…
add some new code, and it's suddenly a new version of the internet! please.
I still highly doubt software as a service will become prominent in anything important. Critical information cannot go outside the company plus if one central cloud computing center goes down, you lose your entire thing and can do nothing about it.
Ah, I hate stupid terms like 2.0 3.0. Where's my web 2.1? Are we just going to go right to 3.0? I think I might copyright web 4.0, then become a millionare!!
It's a circle-jerk rubbed out of desperate marketing departments to justifiy their exsitance.
Just like Web 2.0 was.
Just like mash-ups were.
Just like portals were.
Just like OOP was.
Just like java was.
It's all a game. The really good stable stuff sticks around, but most of it is just re-churned crap to sell half-baked solutions under a cool name dredged up by some coked-out intern.

***** web 2, ***** web 3. rapid evolution of the web doesn't need to be forced into marketing buzzwords. there's no software 2.0, 3.0, 5.0, 110.31 theta, etc.
i think web 3.0 is programs that run and have internet access, and you can't tell it's a browser, also more 3d effects in the web browser, right now everything is god dam 2d
and unlike most people i don't mind terming the evolution of the web in 2.0/3.0
2.0 is more social stuff where users can comment, 3.0 is just what i said
When will this x-point-oh business ever end? Since when did a wave of design fashion and snap shot of multiple interactive technologies constitute a release number?!!!
I've got to agree with those that say "Web 3.0" is nothing but buzz. It's an attempt by entrepreneurs and corporations to cash in on the next big thing, without even knowing what that big thing is.
If I could pick what Web 3.0 ought to be, it would be the semantic web. In my opinion, however, progress on the semantic web has slowed to a crawl because of all the xml/rdf/etc. format wars. There needs to be a balance struck between sound data representation and ease of use, but right now everyone seems too busy, well... arguing semantics. :P
Web 2.0 has no clear definition, so tacking 3.0 on the end doesn't mean *****. User interaction has always been apart of the Internet, there's just more technology behind it now. I don't call my car a Vehicle 4.5 Alpha 3 Rendition 1C because it has electric windows and a GPS.
Blog and podcast are also stupid terms. Who's the dickhead who keeps making these pseudo-words popular?
Buzz words, *****, buzz words, and you get the picture. This article is a crapload of BS where they ask people who have been successful what they think the future will entail and nobody has a clue. Why don't we let the future occur and stop pretending like we can predict it...
Web 3.0 will basically be a streamlined solutions to the problems of the current generation of development. Web 2.0 is essentially just AJAX. I used to do hacks before AJAX was around to get similar effects, such as having a 1px frame pulling in data to the other frame so that realtime data was being pulled. Now with AJAX that has been streamlined, and is really the core of web 2.0.
