- AlaskaLoneWolf, on 10/15/2008, -3/+132...that's why I have an SD card with all my passwords, final wishes,
short video clips of my last will and testament, ready to go in the
event of my untimely demise, and so that my successor can carry
the torch after my time is up, and we all don't lose the level 53 Hunter
in World of WarCraft that I've been working on forever...
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/hunter ... - stigma15, on 10/15/2008, -1/+101I'd hate for my Mom to have to cancel my Bang Bros subscription if I die unexpectedly.
- wheresmclean, on 10/15/2008, -1/+83Considering my geocities from when i was 12 is still active (apparently I really liked both Korn and Smashmouth, don't mess with me), I'm pretty sure it'll all stay around.
- atarijedi, on 10/15/2008, -0/+73Hopefully by the time of my demise, the ability to download my consciousness will have been developed, and I can LIVE on the internet.
- latova, on 10/15/2008, -1/+69I may die, BUT THIS COMMENT I MADE ON DIGG IS ETERNAL.
- gusto, on 10/15/2008, -0/+51Dead Man's Switch will send out emails to your contacts when you die: http://www.deadmansswitch.net/
- anagoge, on 10/15/2008, -0/+44Lol. Geocities.
- bushout, on 10/15/2008, -2/+40Hieroglyphics aren't in use either, but damn it we unlocked their secrets. I'm sure dedicated scientists can unlock AlaskaLoneWolfs highscore.
- DirtyVicar, on 10/15/2008, -2/+38My grandchildren will have to carry on the sacred duty of responding to Craigslist w4m posts with pictures of our penis. Carry on, my wayward sons.
- kevlar21, on 10/15/2008, -0/+36Dear future kids,
Get off of Digg and back to work! - schnikies79, on 10/15/2008, -0/+35I'm dead, why would I care?
- bushout, on 10/15/2008, -0/+34Cool, can they be sent to yourself a couple of weeks before you die?
- nizzy1115, on 10/15/2008, -0/+26I have a few old high school friends that have (sadly) either committed suicide or died tragically. Its weird to see their face books just the way they left them before they died. The only thing that can let you know anything happened are the sad posts left by other friends after their deaths.
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -1/+24LOL. KoRn.
- RobotBuddha, on 10/15/2008, -0/+21If need be, I can still get a floppy drive to work with all my computers. Given how frequently sd cards are used in electronics that are supposed to last a long time, I suspect that legacy support will be available through usb readers for some time.
- cJw314, on 10/16/2008, -0/+20Because that's what younger brothers do?
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -0/+20link please. im interested in seeing it. sounds hilarious
- oxymoron69, on 10/15/2008, -0/+19ROFL. Smashmouth.
- osuchasenuts, on 10/15/2008, -1/+19And when your younger brother finds that SD card in the corner of the desk drawer he's gonna pop it in his computer and format it for him to use.
- GreatDrok, on 10/15/2008, -0/+18My mum used the internet quite extensively. She died earlier this year and the oddest thing is still having all the e-mail, Skype conversations, that sort of thing lying around. Kind of nice actually to have what are really quite trivial chats and so on.
- DeskFlyer, on 10/15/2008, -0/+18They said that about CDs too.
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -0/+16It's spelled bizarre. Unless you mean something along the lines of a flea market.
- 22pages, on 10/15/2008, -0/+15i would say probably less than 2% of people would ever want their kids to read their digg comments
- luuneetoon, on 10/15/2008, -0/+15I can imagine the hilarity that will ensue when you change your e-mail and forget to change this, or leave for vacation and forget to click the link.
- staffell, on 10/15/2008, -0/+15Well that was depressing.
- Soofi, on 10/15/2008, -2/+16The Inevitable was inevitably going to create a niche for services to notify your online contacts that you've gone down under. It's still an emerging market, but after a few years there will be companies that offer to update your profiles meatspace status to 'deprecated', 'obsolete' and 'wormf00d'.
Perhaps someone will even create a virtual cemetery, then we could deface the memorial pages of those people we didn't like. If you take this idea and run with it - let me know!
On a similar note, there's a website for christians to write up emails addressed to their family and friends which are only sent out once the 'Rapture' takes place, when christians are taken into heaven and only the Godless are left on the earth. As funny as it sounds, it's no joke.
http://www.youvebeenleftbehind.com/ - Konstantino, on 10/15/2008, -0/+14Hey, if I can still use a VCR to record TV shows I can use an SD card 10 years from now.
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -1/+15Like you didn't know you'd be dead eventually.
- trer, on 10/15/2008, -0/+13I see dead myspace pages.
- RobotBuddha, on 10/15/2008, -0/+13I've thought about doing something like that. Basically just hook up a deadmans switch. But I can't imagine the trauma I'd put my family through if there was a server error that triggered it, or I just plain forgot.
- Amavel, on 10/15/2008, -0/+12Nah. In the event that I actually have kids, I'd love for little Gustavo Hussein Smith to read up on his mum's srsly awesome wit!
Damn right. - inactive, on 10/15/2008, -4/+16"...the level 53 Hunter...I've been working on forever..."
...wat? - inactive, on 10/16/2008, -0/+12lmfao, 12
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -0/+12Good thing you stopped there. "Doncha cry no more." would be asking a bit too much.
- palagrim, on 10/15/2008, -0/+11Dugg for Dead Man's Switch... What a fantastic idea! Slightly morbid - but what a brilliant idea...
... Think I might sign up... - ortucis, on 10/15/2008, -0/+11Agreed. No one cares that he is dead.
- malechite, on 10/15/2008, -1/+12It will die when you stop paying for web hosting!
- Thasanimos, on 10/16/2008, -0/+11Hahahaha, considering.
- Burrito, on 10/15/2008, -0/+11I admit it. I laughed.
- LastDitchHero, on 10/15/2008, -0/+11I always get creeped out looking at www.mydeathspace.com. I have told loved ones that I really don't want to end up being linked on that creepy website and that it would be better if my stuff was just deleted and shut down.
- Tanktunker, on 10/15/2008, -0/+10I doubt internet archive has enough space to actually host all the pictures of today's internet, even Google doesn't bother with images in it's cache.
Anyway, I doubt the HR people in where ever your "idiot classmates" are going to apply for a job have the time to look up every single mention of them on the internet. - PoopOnPaul, on 10/15/2008, -0/+10This kid from my hometown died last winter, and his last status update on Facebook was "____ is alive" (with his name on the blank obviously). It's still near the top of his news feed, after notifications that he has been sent invites by applications. It's really sad. It must have been really hard for his friends who went there right after it happened to leave a tribute message on his wall (which is what people do these days I guess) right after he died, only to see newsfeed staring them in the face saying he's alive.
- Homerr, on 10/15/2008, -0/+10www.archive.org
- windigo, on 10/15/2008, -0/+10well said. I remember how amazed I was that you could make a free website back when I was in 7th grade.
- scottgr, on 10/15/2008, -0/+10You can't have been here long then!
- FasterGun, on 10/15/2008, -0/+10Guy, Smashmouth was awesome when I was 12. Its just how it is.
- inactive, on 10/16/2008, -1/+11you could always use more space for porn
- docsavatchniya, on 10/15/2008, -0/+10one of my very closest friends passed in march...her myspace is still, quiet...except for the memorials of family and friends, like those you mention...
myspace shocks me on occasion with some nudge from her, feigned by the system...
sometimes i want to contact tom and co., and tell them...
more often, though, i'm very glad the account is still available...
peace... - inactive, on 10/15/2008, -0/+9I've always kinda wondered about this
- SilverSeraph, on 10/15/2008, -1/+10Very good question!
but the real question is.....
What happens to your porn when you die!? -
