- dannysullivan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Half the article is about searcher stuff, not SEO stuff. The PageRank meter is shifting to being on by default for many Google Toolbar users going forward. Lots of them are going to be going what is this? And sadly, Google itself doesn't explain that meter very well (hence the article I wrote).
- tim507, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6actually, in this case...comment number 10 is the best.
- dannysullivan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wrong box, sorry!
- dannysullivan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yep, PageRank is overhyped (as the article says). And as it also says, many more people are about to see if in the Google Toolbar, which might fuel more hype. So, my reason for the article was to explain it and help remove the hype factor.
- tim507, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2From a business standpoint the higher PR i have the more i can charge for Advertisement Landscape :D its not just all SERPS
- wonderchemist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So how does this explain the search results for "am i crazy or do I have herpes"
1. Someone's joke blog?
2. An advice column.
3-5. Semi-coherent ranting on heath forums. - dannysullivan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, one day later, a button that shows Diggs when you go to a site:

http://neothoughts.com/2007/04/27/firefox-extension-smart-digg-button/ - pitfallharry, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Uh, this isn't really news. PageRank is really just a compartive tool these days to see how "popular" you are compared to how popular you were 2 years ago. I dont' think Google even updates it much these days. Google toolbar needs to replace PageRank with DIGGS instead!
- ZigZam, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Simple answer: PageRank means nothing, it is only a number and has no effect on your search result placement.
- Chtiwi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0voici une bonne explication en détail http://www.xcess.info/fr/comprendre_le_google_pagerank_en_detail_afr.aspx
- str3ama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1this was an article about pagerank and a way for that site to get some pagerank!
- joshbachynski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What!? Page rank doesn't matter?
Good luck getting any traffic in a competitive field in google without any externally showing "page rank" (which is just a numerical representation and translation of links from other authoritative sites and your internal page rank (which is calculated with many other factors involved, like age, domain area, size, professionalism, etc)).
It's not the only thing of course. but ignore it at your peril. - dannysullivan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That would rock, a button to light up and show you if a page was on Digg and how many it got. I looked, nothing like it. But go here:
http://www.google.com/tools/toolbar/buttons/gallery
Search for Digg, first button at least will put a button in the Google Toolbar that lets you click and see the latest things on Digg.
Groowe, http://www.groowe.com/, is much nicer. No PageRank meter, but lets you search against multiple search engines, imitates each search engine's toolbar features faithfully plus lets you switch to search and submit to Digg as well. - tim507, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1its updated ~ every 6mo. and yes it matters, its alot more than just how "popular" a site is...im all about monetization..the greater PR the more i can charge. .i guess not everyone is thinking the same way about this (which is good for me :D )
- lkmbrd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1How did this make it to the first page? Yes, it's a pretty comprehensive PageRank guide but how is this relevant today? In general PageRank is over-hyped and featuring articles like this on the first page only fuels the flames.
Ugh. - clicknation, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Wow, I've never seen a front page Digg with no comments (no comments when I started this comment)... But seriously, this is some good stuff, thanks tombishop63. I've been trying to get my head around this for a while
- monergism, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Two comments + 84 diggs = gaming.
Digg, can't you do better? - lorductape, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3comment number 1!
