- Nahor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24I think it's hilarious that some guys just made up a term, and people spend large chucks of their time trying to figure out what a made up term "means". Then, they debate about what the made up term "really means".
Just wait until entropadic prodiscreation 4.5 comes out - *then* the debates will fly. - Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16The first rule of Web 2.0 is that you don't talk about Web 2.0.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+136. Profit!
- spraguep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12It's a ***** buzzword thought up to con VCs into a second internet bubble.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I'd mod you up 100 times if I could, just so I could counter all the clueless sheep who will invariably and unquestionably attempt to mod you down.
- Teckinno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What is Web 2.0 (from O'Reilly):
http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/oreilly/tim/news/2005/09/30/what-is-web-20.html
It's not a term for nice glossy websites, like many think it is. - psychotron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6It's all about cool rounded corners and awesome fades on your website. Also, don't forget AJAX and paradigm shifts. For Web 3.0 I predict the return of square corners and solid colors! AJAX will be replaced by CLOROX and a good time will be had by all!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Lets just make html web pages by hand in notepad, or text edit. Old Skool
- A2DWebdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I find of the website from oReillyy a great Web 2.0 Description. Everyone where interested in socially Web, should itself cleanpull itt http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/oreilly/tim/news/2005/09/30/what-is-web-20.html

www.art2digital.com - Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@osbjmg: congrats, you're the millionth person to post something as unoriginal as your comment above.
- Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Seriously....why are we getting so hung up on buzzwords? "Web 3.0 is coming soon" comments like above are lame and about as unoriginal as the articles themselves.
People who bitch about buzzwords forget one thing: THEY'RE BUZZWORDS! Call Web 2.0, AJAX, etc. whatever the hell you want. It's not like one day you're all going to bitch enough and it's just going to go away.
Names mean NOTHING. The implementation of these web development styles are what's important. - sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What is web 2.0? Natural progression pretending to be a big leap.
- ardellin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Seriously guys, for an a more authoritative article on what is Web 2.0 read the link above. The term has indeed been thrown around way too much over the past year, but if you are unsure what it actually means, learn from a reliable and thorough source.
- miaow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i would say aesthetically, if not programming-wise, we are on Web.4
web 1 was the 1st phase where it was mostly text
web 2 was the late 90s when we were plagued with html fancy graphics and poor design and sites that didnt load correct and pop-ups etc etc
web 3 was going overboard with the fancy stuff and javascript etc for ads and the likes
web 4 is now, where its subtle and mature. - osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3And by gum, make sure your logo has pink/blue and green and a reflection and some cross-hatching doesn't hurt. bubble 2.0?
I am actually already on the web 3.5 preview release if anyone wants to join me. It's all black and white, and uses only Times New Roman. (Images are in ASCII art). - podcoder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Web 2.0 = Most Overhyped, Overused term
- streak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5It's a trademark, to be exact.
- ardellin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well gary, I'm not sure why exactly you got dugg down, but you are incorrect in your statements about web 2.0. Read the link posted by Teckinno above. It's a shame the buzz-wordiness of "Web 2.0" killed it's real meaning, but there are much more important characteristics to 2.0 than looks.
Then again, you share the same bitter opinions with most people here in the comments, so I am surprised you got dugg down. - ech0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If a VC is that stupid he damn well deserves to lose his money. Most VCs aren't that stupid, they are mostly successful business people who sold theirs companies and turned to investing. You really have to convinced them your business plan is gonna work, in all aspects.
- Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ya know....for you bitching about buzzwords, you surely found a way to pack in 45 of them into 6 sentences. Bravo.
- Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The <marquee> tag and in-line MIDI file playback are making a comeback. You heard it here first.
- ujangdigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2web 2.0, again...
- Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@Nahor: And I find it hilarious, and oddly ironic, that you say that. Isn't this exactly what you're doing?
You're basically saying "Pfffft people are wasting their time arguing about what 'Web 2.0' really means, when it doesn't mean anything....blah blah blah...."
See the irony in all of this? - patience, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The second rule of Web 2.0 is:
1. Come up with a cool name.
2. Buy a domain and hire a pr firm.
3. Figure out a business plan.
4. Burn through venture capital and close down company.
5. Wait for the next .com fad to come along. - Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm surprised ardellin got dugg down:
"It's a shame the buzz-wordiness of "Web 2.0" killed it's real meaning..." is a great comment.
Then again, the ability to rationalize and process straight up facts can be a chore for many Digg users. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That's not irony.
- motoole22, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Its all about the rounded corners and gradients!
- palmer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2We're not unsure. We're quite sure it's meaningless crap.
- ardellin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1disregard... i said the same thing others did above
- tofuComputer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think the real definition of "Web 2.0" is "Lots of websites that use the same design (and look the same)".
Anyone heard of the new CSS 3 spec for H tags? Yeah, HUGE TEXT
Oh, and don't forget that damn stupid round label! And may God strike you down if you don't use a gradient!
The technology of "Puppy" (I just renamed Web 2.0) is pretty cool. But Puppy needs to be let free to run and look beautiful. - mojo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://store.muledesign.com/shirts/koolaid.php
- garyh84, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3First, it was all about AJAX (which is a crappy name for Javascript and XML which has been around forever...). Now it's all about gradients and rounded corners. What the hell. Seriously?
If anything, this is Web 3.0. First it was just tables and strictly HTML. Then PHP, CGI, CSS and XHTML. Now, it's all about the 3d effect and creating a less boxy look. OK, we get it. Who really cares anyways?
Web 2.0 is really just a fancy word for 'fill web designers full of *****'. - psychotron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Man, you people cannot take a joke! Doesn't anyone know sarcasm when they read it?
- NewChar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5"Web 2.0....is like....it means freedom, man."
- psychotron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Stop hanging to the past! Web 3.0 is well on it's way and there is nothing non-users like you can do about it. The paradigms are changing as we speak despite people like you. Web 2.0 was (and still is) such a big success and it has brought about new markets and new collective intelligences. The citizen media's of today are the peer-to-peer networks of tomorrow. Mash-ups, blogs, podcasts, and infoware that are in their infancy today will open up a whole new nexus tomorrow. Just get in the wagon already and enjoy the ride!
- garyh84, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Good ***** lord. Please, if you are going to digg someone down, GIVE A ***** REASON.
I'm tired of this *****. Same goes for the 'marked as inaccurate' crap. If you have a problem with what is being said, give a damn reply and explain yourself.

What is Digg?
