Google doesn't own a satellite. I swear, the articles written by The Register are written by 14 year olds who know nothing about the things they're writing. - AETAaAS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Are we looking into the past?
- Liembo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder if it was an aerieal photograph or satellite-capture? A lot of the coverage is from aircraft, for example, check out the scale of this jet in flight vs the size of others people have found:
http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=34.299316,-118.603935&spn=0.005128,0.007467&t=k&hl=en
Its huge.
(more at http://www.googlesightseeing.com, et. al.) - Jalada, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What are the chances of that ;-), cool. Dugg.
- cheekygeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The shadows on the ground do not seem to match the shadows on the plane. Presumably they would both be lit by the same sun.
- Xopl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where's the shadow?!
- beasty_dave_Mk2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sweet!
- tryferos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dang, I knew those satellite images were old...but 60+ years! :P
- sparkmonkeyz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that is sick. dugg
- hughns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My grandfather used to be a Lancaster and Wellington pilot during WWII. He's still about, so I've forwarded this link to my grandmother who will show him. I'll be interested to hear his reaction.
- SlowOnTheUptake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This does not appear to be taken from a a satellite, unless everything beneath it is tiny. The wing span of the Lancaster is ~100 feet but it seems to be five times the length of the house just under the left wing. The photograph looks like it was taken from a few thousand feet above. From space, everything on, or near , the ground would appear at the same scale.
- pillfred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why is this awsome? no really!
- DASH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good catch!
- SVPirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0LOL That's a classic. I'm actually suprised more satellite photos don't have random aircraft in them.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lol, Now, let's try to spot an OVNI... To hell with SETI, long live google earth. :)
- erkokite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you can also find a stealth bomber at some large airbase(I forget which) in the USA. At another base there is an F-35
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome! Very lucky find!
- HiddenS3crets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0very cool
- Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice trick to get me to install Google Earth. Was well worth it too. +digg!
- santu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I swear next time you will see me tanning :)
- Clickerness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Amazing.
Dugg. - metaphysical, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's kind of funny.

- johnwiseman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, neat! +DIG
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When i look at my house on GM, I see a car that I owned over two years ago setting in my drive.
- OpticalLiam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"The Lancaster in question is the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's "City of Lincoln.""
Well it should be as its the only Lancaster left thats airworthy =). And it's flown over my house a few times too - love the sound of those merlins - Draconiko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is really cool and all but how is this news?
- blackb0x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's probably a real live picture from WW2, because that's about how old most of the Google Earth pictures are.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome. I just made water, Mrs. Daisy.
- MeatFlaps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/12/20/google_earth/
- nate007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thats really cool +digg
- carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+034d 57' 11" N 117d 53' 3" W is a couple sr71s, very cool, and as far as area 51 goes, it looks like a airstrip without any planes in the open. woohoo. neat that it's area 51 but not too much to it
- ifonly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0amazing, indeed.
- MrFisty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The comment about the wingspan is right. It just doesn't look right in relation to the house beneath.
Also, where's the shadow? - osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0matsiescruff - what? Why would it be photoshopped? Go there and look at it yourself, man. Ever heard of an airshow? I'm sure we can find some WWI bi-planes as well at some point.
- Abyss_908, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sweet! Just really cool stuff.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow. google earth is awesome.
- matsiescruff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0looked kinda photoshopped to me...but if it's real. that's pretty cool.
- srodolff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Got Google Earth?
Go to 34d 57' 11" N 117d 53' 3" W
And see what you find.... - NickHodges, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's an airplane flying over Carmel Middle School in Carmel Valley, CA
http://tinyurl.com/9cau7 - NidStyles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0**When i look at my house on GM, I see a car that I owned over two years ago setting in my drive.**
I saw my car that was totalled over two years ago. I laughed when I saw the old Caddie parked next to it, that my girl-friend's dad totalled. Good times. - srodolff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Right at the tip of the nose is where the shadow of the tail starts on the ground.
It's like "Where's Waldo?". - DeadlyCouncil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man, I know some of the shots on google earth are a tad dated, but that takes the cake...
lol - TimmyK., on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Has anyone ever checked out Area 51 on Google maps? I think I'll have to give it a try.
- Iffrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0effing awsome.. nuff said
- hypnotiq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow that's cool. are there other ones out there too?
- delt0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Shadows look like it maches too me.. Scale looks funny, but that just means is not on the ground. Basicaly the most simple explination for this photo is that its real.
But its a good idea to be careful with the number of doctored pics on the internet these days. - llnk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0awesome. dugg
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0That is awesome!
