- Scyth3, on 10/12/2007, -8/+132Social networking is the new pokemon. Gotta catch em' all.
Honestly, I think it's safe to say between MySpace and Facebook -- there's not much more room for another oddly named social networking site. - MMXII, on 10/12/2007, -4/+78They are non-abtrousive, and they dont blink, flicker or give you an aneurysm. There won't be any suprises when it comes to ads.
- BornWithRage, on 10/12/2007, -3/+62like it or not, myspace isn't going anywhere.... unfortunately
- thekak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+59Are you actually kidding? I don't see any ads at the top of the page killing off my attention span.
- Rub3s, on 10/12/2007, -5/+49Is sit just me, or are Digg stories becoming more like advertisements and promotions?
- dojonz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+45One of the reasons MySpace is so popular is the bad design 'ghetto' appeal.
- Ngai, on 10/12/2007, -3/+38"You like stuff. Virb likes stuff. Use it to keep your all stuff in one place and you'll be surprised at how many other people like stuff, too."
stuff....lol - jedioniram, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32not with an attitude like that, it won't!
- strabes, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32Wait, what are ads?
- weezgrrl, on 10/12/2007, -5/+30After being on Myspace for quite awhile, building up my friends list, etc., and dabbling in Facebook, I certainly didn't think I'd be diving into another social network site... that was until I stumbled upon a Flickr contact's Virb page. I immediately signed up and spent most of yesterday tweaking my profile. The customization is so slick, something I'd never had the patience to do with my Myspace profile.
There doesn't seem to be too many Virbers just yet, I popped up as the only one from my city when searching for neighbors. I hope the word can get out and people will take a chance on it, because the interface is so much better than any other I've seen. - JCSaint, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24I went to someone's page and they had a music player like myspace and I was cringing waiting for my speakers to give me utterly loud crap but it was silent. You have to hit play to hear music. I think I might weep with joy.
- uttles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Their time would have been better spent upgrading Myspace code and selling it to Tom.
- huphtur, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22OMG VIRB HAX0R3D THE MYSPACES: http://myspace.com/mattlinder
- Bahimiron, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25Just what the world needs.
More blogging space. - schroeder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18The "Remove Customization" button is probably the best feature.
- charlesroldan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18What the ***** does that mean?
- GawtMilk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I hope you DON'T get the word out.
Better to just tell a couple of friends, and never EVER mention this on MySpace.
The most annoying thing about MySpace is the people. Virb with twelve year olds "tlknn lyk dis LOLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!1234" would suck just as much on a site with spiffy visuals. - sfmman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Enter the wrong validation code: "PC Load Letter??"
- Godlesswanderer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11A lot slower. Digg effect maybe?
- timlopez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11OMG LOLZ!!! ADD ME!!!! http://www.virb.com/timlopez
- S!L3N7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Bloc Party on the front page. hey, gets my vote.
- chrysb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10The power of customization:
http://www.virb.com/wheat
http://www.virb.com/leavemyspace
http://www.virb.com/felipe
http://www.virb.com/kpishdadi
... and so many more! - wafflez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9LULZ ME TOO
virb.com/waffles - vocalyouth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I have been using Virb for about a week and I really enjoy it. If more people were on it I wouldn't look back to myspace. The interface is so clean and everything works like it's supposed to. I like how it combines Myspace, Last.FM and Purevolume all together. Really nice.
- Reese268, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10MySpace first so MySpace will rule forever? I hate to tell you this, but there were other blog communities before MySpace. MySpace overcame them, so why can't something overcome MySpace? The fact of the matter is, MySpace sucks, and always has sucked. Virb is everything Myspace is without all the suck. Why WOULDN'T it succeed? (if we put aside for the moment that most people are idiots)
- BunnieLebowski, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Virb seems like the myspace for hipsters or people who think they're too cool for myspace. Once Virb gets overrun with people the hipsters will leave so they are not like everyone else.
- joel2600, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7digg needs virb integration and vice versa ASAP
it's all over from there and we all know it.
do this now!!!! - so1omon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@ str3ama
You mean the way MySpace jumped on the Friendster bandwagon? Friendster? What's that? My point exactly. - mweels, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Sad, but true.
- jeylux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+610000000 points for the "remove customizatiom" button.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -3/+8"Virb is more or less what Myspace should've been"
Facebook is what MySpace should be. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Dont be a tard.
- ZeroNeo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6*hopefully* they'll see the competition and improve their weaknesses (and there are A LOT) .
- themarco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's not about feeling 'too cool for MySpace'. It's about being annoyed by ugliness, spamming, friend whoring, gay bulletins and comments and overall tasteless crap. But to many people it's the best thing since sliced bread. To each his own I guess.
Not liking that kind of stuff isn't quite the same as feeling superior to anyone. I don't like R&B music but I don't think my musical taste is superior to R&B. R&B is just 'not my thing'. Just like MySpace. - Koray, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The customization, oh sweet jesus the customization. It's beautiful. Now I must spend hours creating a swank custom profile so that everyone thinks I'm cool :(.
- indraneel24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5oh it never died. at least in the hearts and minds of preteen asians.
- adage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@nick
"What the ***** does than mean" was the line right after "PC load letter" - sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Leaving Myspace as we speak.
- seeeymour, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Why does everyone in every picture on that front page look so depressed?
- omgsqueakers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm in love with Virb since getting the invite last month.. It's about a million times better than myspace, and a million times less sketchy.
- mweels, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5
Myspace is a big piece of the ***** just like most of the world.
I think it takes more then a good user interface design to make a product worthwhile. The issue I have with new social networking sites is the lack of content. People have invested a lot of time building out profiles, videos, pictures, etc in MySpace.
I think the next big social network won't be big. It will be small and focused on a group that has something in common.
If these guys focus on the indie music market, it might have some legs. However, i am already starting to see dumb ass videos, etc. Focus Focus Focus.
Think small and it will be big to a few, i think thats the key in the age of information overload. - Lemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Any new social network needs to allow this simple function in order to pull the myspace nerds:
Allow outside contacts. Enter your friends myspace URL and have them show in your friends as "myspace friends". - garyh84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5broomet, what are you talking about? I'm on dialup and Digg loads a hell of a lot faster than MySpace.
- thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10welp, virb's not cool any more
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4how about an anti social networking site?
- MattInChicago, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6It's cleaner than MySpace but it's not compelling. I can't see anything here to make people leave MySpace in the quantity needed to start any kind of trend. People use what other people use and a slightly cleaner UI isn't enough...IMHO! But then again I could be full of #@!
- johnnyrocket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's doesn't make much at all to improve on MySpace, the default IIS web page is an improvement on MySpace.
- ghosteater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i noticed today that virb is now live and all morning i was dreading it hitting digg. a lot of people have been waiting for it to go live, expect it to be slow today.
@themarco :amen - stephenhoffman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I enjoy the "Remove Customization" button.
- charlesroldan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Myspace is already too ingrained into youth culture. Nobody cares if it's a ***** website...
