- inkhead, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16I live in Silicon Valley, and my mom in Fort Wayne, IN has better internet and television services than I do.
WTF... - zarex, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9We have FIOS, but not FIOS TV, due to ridiculous cable-service laws and local politics.
- obeseotron, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9I have FiOS now and the dvr software is better than comcast or time warner, but nowhere near tivo. This looks a lot better, maybe it will even be in HD. Currently the SD guide is just upscaled, which is annoying because text benefits more than almost anything from HD.
- Tsmith10803, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9I would kill for fios...just think of how fast you could download! I would download so much por....I mean, bible ebooks and films about abstinence :)
- Madrox17, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Wooooot!! Fort Wayne represent!!
This might finally get me off my duff to cancel Comcast and order FiOS. - Satanael, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6FiOS internet is in the city right next to mine... It's been there for years and they refuse to move it a couple miles over into my city...
- tuartboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Great news about the FIOS TV coming to FW as we've only had fiber internet for the last few years. Too bad there is nothing to do but watch TV in this town!
Anyone else from the Fort?
Edit: Could this explain the complete (forced, i might add) firmware overhaul on my FIOS router a few weeks ago? The whole interface got a minor facelift. - Rickler, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5That's your 200 billion dollars in taxes the telecoms took at work. The nation the internet was born in is ranked 15th in terms of broadband speed.. we should all be marching through the streets demanding 100mbps or our $700 per citizen back.
- nnnr, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Verizon just started digging and putting the cables in the ground for fios service here =0
- tuartboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I have the 15/2 FIOS plan and it's only $45/mo.
- rodiejack, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5I heard FiOS is amazing. I heard it cures the herp.
- windohs, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4um....i haven't even got fios 1.0 TV or internet
hurry up verizon - Dgenx2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Verizon will go anywhere they can there is alot of political ***** that goes on with this kind of stuff.
- davymac, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3usually has to do with city approvals, etc.. check if you're in "county territory".. thats what i usually hear as reason..
- windohs, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3i check my email everyday anyway lol
- radiobuck, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I have this; they need to get a new remote though. They don't have a page down or page up button, so you have to go through the 800+ channels one by one.
- Pureeviljester, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Yeah, i signed up to get an email when they come to my area. I check it everyday...
- merr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Believe it or not, Fort Wayne is a really popular testbed for new products and services like this. That city gets a lot of new stuff first.
- littlebear, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Birdcage is a wonderful remake of the french film La Cage Aux Follies, which was also produced and put on Broadway.
- craterburnsu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Same issue here. All my friends in the surrounding cities have it, and my town doesn't. I know someone within 5 miles that can get it and i can't. It's very depressing.
- sifeliz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Now all they need is a 30 sec skip forward button
- ridv34, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That's the reason why we don't have it? That's some BS. We have FIOS out here in LI, but I'm stuck DirectTV because Cablevision sucks, I can't wait until the minute FIOS TV is rolled out here.
- TVarmy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4I just looked at Verison's Fios website. They say the $40 service is capped at 5Mbps down, 2 Mbps up. I hate to say it, but that's actually slow for me. My somewhat small cable company (Patriot Media) has its base internet clocked at 10Mbps down, 1Mbps up. I admit the 1 Mbps up is slower, and an extra Mbps would help out on bit torrent and eMule, but this is still a lot better for how I usually use my connection. Plus, with my cable TV subscription, it's just $30 a month. So, fiber at the standard consumer prices is slower dollar per dollar after Verison gets to pricing it. That's really sad.
However, my cable company's higher speed offering, 20Mbps down, 1 Mbps up for $69 a month looks kind of cruddy compared to Verison's 15Mbps down, 2Mbps up for $50. I'll go for fiber once my cable company goes under or Verison starts passing on the technology and speed of fiber to the end user. - Typhoon2009, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Spiffy stuff. The current interface is a bit dated looking, so I will gladly welcome this new one. That being said, my biggest gripe with FiOS is that they don't have any HD stuff on the On Demand. Who the hell wants to watch SD?
- DrOBoogie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1***** yeah, the current FiOS television interface looks like ass; it almost makes me want to go back to Comcast (almost).
- smitting, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1People grow up in Indiana, invent great things, and move away.
Purdue had the first computer science program, and (arguably) invented the transistor. Honeywell invented the thermostat in Wabash, and setup shop in Minneapolis. Farnsworth invented the CRT and founded ITT. Indiana around 2000 (don't care enough to look up the latest stats) had the most women CEOs and overall Nobel Prize winners from any state, too bad none of them live there anymore. Alfred Kinsey is someone who really led the sexual revolution down in Bloomington. Kurt Vonnegut is a well known author. Michael Jackson is from Gary, Madonna from Evansville. Sean Kemp and Larry Bird aren't big names in basketball anymore.
None of those people lived their adult lives in Indiana. Then again, I haven't lived there in 6 years either. Almost every one of the truly amazing people I met growing aren't living in Indiana anymore.
So to answer the question, no, nobody lives in Indiana, they're just born there.
edit: Larry Bird does live in indiana now, but as a car salesman. - smitting, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Lived in Tempe, AZ for years now, but originally from Wabash and call Fort Wayne my home town.
Happy to see the progress back home! Flying out there on Thursday... hoping the economy is looking up from last time. When the hell are they going to build a freeway going downtown to get some use out of all those new civic buildings? :)
Seems fitting that the hometown of the inventor of CRTs would be the place where they market-test the technology to replace it. - UnnDunn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Same here, but rumor has it Verizon could get a license to provide TV here (NYC) as early as next month, and they will be ready to provide TV service the instant they get the license.
Yours truly will be signing up that very day; the day we call Time Warner Cable to cancel will be a righteous one indeed. - FilosopherStone, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3The wait will be worth it, FIOS is great, so is the TV. Considering with newsgroups, I can max out my connection 15mbits down, its pretty great. I cannot wait for this TV update, my DVR can be laggy at times, so I hope they optimize this software, I can see it being a laggy with the way it looks. If not, good job verizon, you have done me well.
- o2o2o2o2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I have FiOS in New Hampshire and they still havent offered TV yet. Soooo... 2.0? I havent seen 1.0?
In NH we have it all hooked up, fiber box with coax and everything. They wont sell it to me.
I have internet through fios but thats it. I use a cell for phone and tv is not offered. $35 month for 5mbps down and 2mbps up is nice. Way better than comcast. - lilacattak, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Currently watching my FiOS TV in Fort Wayne. There are thousands of people on queue to get installs around here-- even in this town, it's not **easy** to get it yet; just easier than everywhere else.
But yes, it's gorgeous, and at a good price. My dad pays about twice as much for digital cable and I really think I like this better. - Fenix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'm live in the fort, I'm just glad I can finally get rid of comcrap for good
- windhawk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1FiOS 15/2 rocks the gajangas out of everything else. Plus the TV over FiOS doesn't have all that blocky break up I used to have with Comcast.
Plan on re-naming my firstborn son after FiOS. - brianfgonzalez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i also work for Vz, and FiOS is like the only focus in the company right now, they are dropping telco workers like flies and hiring anyone willing to put a FiOS shirt on in public. With the money invested in this and the fresh fast fiber network, cable companies are DONE!..
- pimpzilla, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3I'm sure the 10 people in the US that have FIOS, including the technological Mecca, Ft. Wayne Indiana, are real excited about this.
- davymac, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1a cable company rep. is on the council in new york.. read into it.. you think verizon doesn't want to roll it out?
- the311neo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I work at a national ISP, and FIOS is HUGE!! I have gotten many calls for people wanting to spend over $100 per month on internet...but keeping in mind that we are talking a tru 40 to 50 meg download speed....oh i wish...downloading the matrix trilogy in HD in MOMENTS. **DROOL**
- Adrnshw6, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Does anyone know of a way to see where Verizon plans to expand their FIOS availability to in the near future?
- Sharra, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I have fios and I can say this guide upgrade is very badly needed. The current guide sucks bad, though I am skeptical about how well the guide will actually perform.. all the flashy graphics and features are great, but if it takes a long time to work through the guide then it's a bad idea. Guess I will have to wait and see when they are going to upgrade SoCal.
- shrbr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0i work for verizon, i can tell you guys when you will be able to get fios on your town :)
- Mastabeta69, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I'm glad i live in fort wayne, we were thinking about switching to fios anyway, so now we definitely will.
- beaves, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0In the Fort, Fios TV on order. Patiently waiting....
- Cantrellv, on 07/23/2008, -0/+0Verizon Business Simplifies Wi-Fi Access to More Than 70,000 Hot Spots Worldwide
http://www.sourcerelease.com/corp/kw0?r=2mmmm3 - sr59899, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Screw Verizon FIOS. Some ***** solicitor came to my house and ordered FIOS. He took all my info and placed the order. I changed my mind and told him to leave and he got angry and cursed me off. The order went through still. Now I have to deal with their ***** customer service and crap and call to cancel it. I am soooooo angry with Verizon FIOS. SCREW them!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1People actually live in Indiana?
- sveerhoff, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0we have been waiting two years for 1.0. Of course, if I lived just 5 blocks north of my current address, I would have it. Thanks, Verizon. By the time you get to MY neighborhood, I will pay more for slower connectivity.
- freakout1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0I have FiOS internet and it's fantastic. I wish we could get FiOS TV, as it's available here, the only problem is that we're stuck on a 2 year service agreement with DiSH network and they want some ridiculous amount of money to cancel the contract. Oh well, guess I'm stuck. =( The guide is very cool looking. It made me wonder what it would look like if Apple had their own TV service or something. Now that would be interesting!
- BadSyntax, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2I got FIOS TV installed soon as it was available in my area, and it SUCKED. It was jerky, very pixelated, and had horrible choices. It required a specific router inbetween my network and the world (and that router SUCKED), so I canceled.
After 3 appointments for the techs to pick up my equipment and never showed, they billed me $900.... I did a charge back and they said all was fine.... now, 6 months later, i'm still fighting with them to get it off my credit, even though I have signed documentation from the verizon store where everything was dropped off!!!
Oh yeah, and when i canceled it they killed my fios internet for 3 days.... took me 8 hours on the phone and 4 calls to get it up and running again.
***** verizon, and I used to love working for them (back in the GTE/Bell Atlantic days).
And I have a 60" TV, why the ***** can I only see like 5 stations at a time that are like 6" tall?!??!?!? Give me a freaking interface I can customize to the size of my TV already!!! - FarcicalFart, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Bring FiOS to Arizona, then I'll start to care.
- antdude, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2No, my city in So. CA!
