- inactive, on 03/08/2009, -1/+57Way to over complicate the ***** out of a phone... Its just a god damn phone... Why is there legal anything for a ***** phone? I just dont understand... ***** sprint on a side note. ***** Verizon and while we are at it ***** ATT as well... I mean its just a ***** phone...
- gbarberi, on 03/08/2009, -0/+27No, they don't need nationalization; they need more competition. If you nationalized voice/data services, you'd prevent that.
- smacksaw, on 03/08/2009, -0/+24I checked and it was incomplete for me.
The thing is, I HAVE ALREADY OPTED OUT OF THIS OR SOMETHING SIMILAR.
TWICE.
So you all need to keep an eye on this crap. - gbarberi, on 03/08/2009, -0/+22*No, they don't need forced competition either. You're both idiots.
I never mentioned forcing competition on them. And, how exactly do you force competition? Hold people at gunpoint and demand they start a business? - Khast, on 03/08/2009, -1/+20I don't blame Verizon for this, I mean my bank gave me the same *****, everyone is doing it, they are just following suit. Hell, what is with these opt-out programs.. IF I ***** WANTED TO SELL MY INFORMATION I WOULD DO IT MYSELF. It should be illegal for opt-out (by not saying anything we assume you mean 'OK')....it should be opt-in (If you want to, if not don't worry about it.)
- MonickerL, on 03/08/2009, -0/+17Well played, sir.
- armadilo, on 03/08/2009, -0/+17I haven't gotten this notice yet either, but I went ahead and changed my CPNI settings anyway. For those that didn't see the instructions on David Weinberger's blog post, here's what you can do:
1. Go to www.verizonwireless.com and log in (midway up the right side of the page).
2. Below where the page says "My Verizon" and then your account number, click "My Profile".
3. Scroll down the page a bit to where you see a section titled "Phone Controls".
4. Right below where it says "Your privacy is important to us. You have ability to change your privacy(CPNI) Settings." you should see "View/Edit Privacy(CPNI) Settings". Click this link.
5. On the page that loads simply click the top bubble under "Don't Share My CPNI" and then click "Submit". Voila! No more personal-information sharing. - twiztidsinz, on 03/08/2009, -0/+17It's called collusion.
There are no real "competitors" in the Cellphone industry.
Or the cable industry.... or the internet industry.....
Just the same or similar services with different names and the same or similar price tags. - RickScarf, on 03/08/2009, -0/+15Yeah, what happens if your pamphlet gets lost in the mail? They'd have to send everything out certified mail to prove you received it!
- airwalkery2k, on 03/08/2009, -1/+16Is "hate" really too long a word to spell out?
- tgc1, on 03/08/2009, -1/+14Dear Verizon,
Thank you for contacting me regarding your desire to release and sell my private information to other parties. While I'm sure this poses a potential source of new revenue for your business, I must warn you that doing so will be in violation of my confidence and will result in legal action. That is to say that if any of my private information, that has been disclosed to you for the sole purpose of administrating my account, is found to be leaked and that leak is traced back to you, I will personally use every legal resource at my disposal to pursue legal action against you until the end of time. And don't worry, I DO have the time. As you (and your legal department) should know, data protection laws exist for a reason. Should you need a refresher on those laws and their power, we can meet in court.
Otherwise you can continue to receive my money in exchange for the service i've ordered and stop screwing me around.
Sincerely,
Irritated Customer. - Biscuitz, on 03/08/2009, -0/+10I don't like Verizon. I used to have their service long ago, I'd say about 2 years total, and it was just pure crap for me. I barely ever had a signal where ever I went and their customer service wasn't any better either. For the people who "claim the largest network" they sure suck in Ohio.
I switched to Cingular (now AT&T), and I've had stellar service since then.
I know not everyone has the same issues with each provider, and I am sure some people hate AT&T just as I hated Verizon. - reeds1999, on 03/08/2009, -0/+10"The Verizon Attitude" - Exactly what is wrong with American business!
- whahaa, on 03/08/2009, -0/+9can i add you to my fave 5?
- whahaa, on 03/08/2009, -0/+9many upstreams combined can amount to 50mb/s. such is the nature of the torrent swarm.

- inactive, on 03/08/2009, -1/+8fuuuck after getting my internet downed to 512kbps i wish i had verizon fios 50mbps
- Octanum, on 03/08/2009, -2/+9Is that even legal? I know I live in a different country, but we do have similarities regarding laws. Local companies here who equated not opting out to agreeing received legal troubles, so I'm wondering if it's the same there.
- gemlarin, on 03/08/2009, -0/+7Sorry, dont need a smartphone. I use my phone for calling people.
- StandardsDT, on 03/08/2009, -0/+6Yeah seriously this was announced over at least a year or so ago. I remember talking about this to my friends and family and ever opted out of it. This is old news but still is important for Verizon Customers to know.
- thelostviking22, on 03/08/2009, -0/+6the funny part of this is that as i discovered this article, up in the top right corner there was a verizon ad.
- stevelectric, on 03/08/2009, -0/+6lex0nyc- Thank you for the link.
Verizon is the most expensive cellphone and wireless Internet service, and the most profitable, yet they want to sell their customers information to other companies:

Something similar happens to Voter Registration information:
http://www.communati.com/steve-lee/think-privacy - puncikam, on 03/08/2009, -0/+6Thanks (David Weinberger) for the directions on how to opt.
- brownsin07, on 03/08/2009, -0/+5Verizon is just about to release the HTC Touch Diamond don't go its so much easier to just stay with us...er I mean them
- sevenalive, on 03/08/2009, -0/+5*****!
- houndeyex, on 03/08/2009, -1/+6Because you have a contract?
- o76923, on 03/08/2009, -1/+6Having the public own public utilities? you're insane!
- gemlarin, on 03/08/2009, -0/+5Well then. My contract with Verizon expired last month and I have been with them out of contract since then while I decide if I want to stay with them or not. After 6 years of ***** with them, I have been waiting for some sort of sign that I should switch to a new carrier. This article sealed the deal for me. Thanks for sharing!
Who has some recommendations on what carrier to go with? - chokeaduck, on 03/09/2009, -1/+6Yeah good luck with that. I'm sure your army of lawyers can go toe to toe with theirs. Oh wa......
- lateralus, on 03/08/2009, -0/+5n
//no - spoulson, on 03/08/2009, -0/+4Strange, I don't see "Phone Controls". The closest thing I see is "Send me exclusive Verizon broadband, TV and wireless updates, exclusive online offers, cool freebies, and more." under the "Numbers & Accounts" section. Nothing to be found about CPNI for me.
- burcs, on 03/09/2009, -0/+4Verizon hates trees, too.
http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/5738/pict2618.jpg
They hijack your mistyped urls, as well. You have to jump through hoops to opt out and still have to configure your router to use a different dns server. - venomoushealer, on 03/08/2009, -0/+4I don't hate any phone company. They all make decisions which which I am unhappy, but that's life. I use Verizon because where I live, it gets the best service. Its a rural community and it just happens to get the only consistent service of any phone company that I have seen.
But hey, everyone is open to their own opinion. I don't think a phone is worth my hate. I have more important things to hate. - TheSpook, on 03/08/2009, -0/+4Yes, I've heard that bad things happen when you don't pay your guido phone bill...
- sevenalive, on 03/08/2009, -0/+3Sprint is the cheapest and best deal, and they notify you (text messaging and even a courtesy call) if your going over and will credit back overage if you agree to a plan that will cover the overage.
At&t has rollover, and less expensive than verizon.
Tmobile is cheap, depends on where you live, if your in a building likely to have no signal.
If i were you, since your used to a CDMA phone and network, go with sprint. If you want to travel over seas, go with the latter. Sprint is trying to change its image and has increased their numbers every quarter. - inactive, on 03/08/2009, -0/+3well idk about torrents but for simultaneous direct downloads bandwidth easily gets filled up
- tupperbacharach, on 03/08/2009, -0/+3Try Page Plus prepaid: http://www.pagepluscellular.com
Less than 6 cents per minute if you buy the 1400-minute card (available only from 3rd-party vendors). Minutes carryover as long as you add minutes every 120 days.
Page Plus uses the Verizon network.
Data is much more expensive, as are roaming calls (generally in rural areas). - Travelsonic, on 03/08/2009, -0/+3Go spam somewhere else.
- tizzleG, on 03/08/2009, -0/+3tried to opt out but i couldn't remember any of my login credentials
now i'm locked out and have to reset my password but i'm too lazy
***** it i'll do it live - mabsark, on 03/09/2009, -1/+3Private trackers suck balls, and so do their users.
- Biscuitz, on 03/08/2009, -0/+2Yeah, I didn't mean to use "hate" it just came out.
But I agree. I do know some people who have Verizon and have no complaints. - Rabdsquirlz, on 03/08/2009, -2/+4And I was so happy with Verizon...
- Phillycat81, on 03/09/2009, -0/+2When you have so many customers, you figure you can do anything. Sorry ex alltel customers.
- CDoug03, on 03/08/2009, -5/+7Too bad they have the best service in the nation otherwise I would cancel.
- 2Six119, on 09/10/2009, -0/+2Almost as good as Headsethotties
- Rivetgeek, on 03/08/2009, -0/+2i have fios. The sad part is that while it's real;ly fast, the only time it makes a noticable difference is in torrenting and even then i get a max of 2Mb/s because nobody has a 50Mb/s upstream.
It really comes in handy though when you want to torrent 4 things and still browse the web. - jamshid, on 03/09/2009, -0/+2Can't see a http://www.cluetrain.com/ reference without mentioning this brilliant satire, thank you web archives:
http://web.archive.org/web/20050828162105/http://w ... A powerful inter-galactic conversation has begun. Through the Internet, people are discovering and inventing new ways to waste time at work, download naughty pictures, and build pipe bombs. As a direct result, things are getting really weird -- and getting weird faster than the parking lot at a Grateful Dead concert.
You may have taken a ride on the cluetrain. Now it's time to get stuck on the gluetrain! - inactive, on 03/09/2009, -0/+1Normally, I would complain about their customer service, but how can I when it's non-existent?
