Having said that, a sitemap can't hurt either and there are some, but extremely few cases in which it is necessary.

Aside from that - Ill stick to a generator that can build both the sitemap on the website, as well as generate the sitemap.xml file for the search engines. Don't use google's xml sitemap program for ranking! The xml sitemap program only saves google bandwidth. It doesn't get pages indexed.
You can also add all of your pages to http://www.google.com/bookmarks

I’ve added pages just to it to see what happens and google spiders it (but it was a suplemental result)
