- therodersabides, on 10/12/2007, -8/+56I love my Netflix more and more every day.
- Neurocat, on 10/12/2007, -7/+47The most offensive thing is that the company is completely denying any problems. Better to admit it and deal with it, than assume your subscribers are idiots.
- pondster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23currently im signed up for both and find BOTH services are severely lacking. Being a loyal netflix subscriber from the beginning - I still love the service. Far surpassing all the others I have tried, including Blockbuster. But lately Netflix has been lax on sending the newest movies, I still receive my movies in 2 days but trying to get the more popular movies is becoming harder and harder. Now, with Blockbuster, I find there service to be MUCH better than it was a year ago. I am receiving my movies faster but lately I have noticed a long delay in sending and receiving. The 2 redeeming factors for both are these - Blockbusters new service that allows me to return a movie IN STORE for another movie ROCKS - the only problem is there seems to be an issue with the employees checking the movie in - I had to report a problem with my movie, but will be trying it again tonight - Babel and Flags of our fathers are now on hold (Both very difficult to get from either service currently) The other factor is this - Netflix Watch Now feature - currently the selection is abysmal and the resolution is horrendous but it is a step forward in the right direction, where blockbusters service to return IN STORE is at this time a great idea but when they have to ultimately close more stores, where will you return them too?
- bm8631, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Why try to insult it by calling it Crapbuster? Doesn't Crapbuster sound like a good thing?
"Remove that stain your cat left on your hardwood floor with Crapbuster!"
If you are going to create an insulting name, man, you gotta do better than that. - SWiG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19I can confirm that I have not experienced any of this and have been getting my movies regularly. There may be problems but they do not pertain to all customers. The in store feature does rock which is why I switched to Blockbuster. I haven't had any problems yet with it though.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13On Sunday? No, you didn't, as the mail isn't delivered on sunday.
- alex189a, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Blockbuster is and always has been a horrible company. I remember when they sent me a late fee notice long ago and enclosed a "rate your satisfaction with us please" card with a place for ME to put a stamp- it wasn't even postage paid. Just a very small example of their overall attitude.
- fishmasta, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Even more reason to stick with Netflix.
- techstar25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I am also one of those users.
I just emailed BB this morning because I have not received anything in two weeks despite have several "Available Now" movies in my queue. This is only my third month with the service and so far they aren't terribly impressive.
FYI, my DVDs ship from Daytona Beach. - AtWorkSurfer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@awm4 are you caught up on all the classics? Netflix has a ton of classic older movies. Look online for lists of "top 20 movies of all time" or similar. Only problem is once you start watching high quality pre-1980s films you may no longer want to watch most of the stuff Hollywood is producing these days.
- 13thfloor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6As a Linux user, I hate their website because of the following excerpt from a customer service email after a small portion of my complaint, "Some technical info, I'm using Firefox with Linux and I always get a "non-responsive script" warning at least once after logging in, usually when trying to manage my list, and often more if I keep trying to navigate through the horrible new interface."
"Please be advised that Internet Explorer is the preferred browser we recommend and is what our tech team uses to test with. Other browsers such as Mozilla/Firefox, AOL/Netscape, Safari, and so forth may not be completely compatible. If you have security or privacy software running such as Norton/McAfee/AVG, then that is very likely the reason why you're having trouble. If you aren't sure how to allow our cookies via your software, then please contact the developer for those instructions." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I'm one of those users who hasn't had a movie shipped in over a week.
Here's another Blockbuster blunder. If you goto Collections->HD-DVD and add a movie from that list, it adds the DVD version and NOT the HD-DVD version.
Great job Blockbuster - halfcockedjack, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11I'm in the same boat. It's been over 2 weeks since I got a movie from them and I can't get an explanation from Blockbuster. Hello, Netflix!
- someguyouknow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6And to think i get mad when I dont get my Netflix the day after they receive it...
- logicalnoise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@awm4 Reccomendations are your friend spend 20 minutes rating movies(there's a tab for it on teh website) and Netflix will giuve you plenty of reccomendations. 80% of the time they are movies/tv shows you'd be interested in. It'd be great for me if only I haddn't seen a few thousand movies in my life.
- bowels, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I haven't had any problems. Over the past eight days I have received 6 dvds and turned them in at the store for free store rentals. I think blockbuster's total access program is a major competitive advantage. I'm really surprised that more people haven't switched from nextflix. Between the mail rentals and the free store rentals, I can get 6 dvds in one day, and 12-15 in a week. I wasn't getting anywhere close to that number with netflix. I can understand the hate for blockbuster, but it still is by far the better deal.
- mille716, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I've never trusted Blockbuster since they moved into the small town I grew up in when I was in high school. There used to be tons of places to rent movies at for $2 then Blockbuster came in. You could rent a movie from them for $3 but if you returned it within two days you got a "blockbuster buck" for a dollar off your next rental. Essentially it was the same price as everywhere else but had a slightly bigger selection so everyone rented from there.
In one year, every other rental store went out of business. Blockbuster then raised their rental prices to $5 then $6. - importantname, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I have Blockbuster and had this problem. I tried emailing and they sent me a form letter explaining how their queue works.
Then I called and talked to a real person, which was difficult because their line was busy a lot, presumably because of people complaining. The person I talked to said they had a major software bug and the fix is going in Monday morning. Then, everything should go back to normal. In the mean-time, he said he would email me coupons for 4 free in-store movies (which have not come yet, but he said would take a few hours). He also said he would credit my account $5.
Since I called, one of my movies shipped from my queue, so either he did it himself or maybe they fixed the problem... - ngmcs8203, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Maybe I'm an isolated case, but my turnaround has been great. I've had Netflix for over 2 years, and have had no problems with delays. And I am currently under a free trial with blockbuster and love the fact that I can drop off 3 movies at the local store, get 3 movies in the store, and then receive 3 movies in the mail 2 days later. I haven't had to wait more than 2, maybe 3 days for either Blockbuster or Netflix to receive their movie and for me to get my next ones.
IF Blockbuster is denying anything wrong, than that is on them and they should take responsibility for it. If I was in these "2 week" shoes I would be pretty pissed off too, but I am not so I can't complain.
@awm: As far as I knew it was NetFLIX, but apart from that I suggest you need to stop complaining about your own taste. Don't blame Hollywood, independent film makers, and TV producers for your specific needs. - importantname, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4He does, but I still dugg you down...
- ashwinmudigonda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'll tell ya one thing. BB's website, after teh redesign, is painful. When you have about 100 movies in your queue, each time you modify the list, it takes forever to reload. The reason is because it loads mouse-tip information for each movie so that when you roll your mouse over, it gives a synopsis. ***** irritating, I say. I hate it. But I love the fact that I get 2x the movies with the in-store option.
- lebe0024, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6That's wierd. Blockbuster has been nothing but AWESOME for me. I love the free in-store rentals when I return my mailers and the free in-store coupons. Even at the $9.99 level (1 movie at a time), I can't watch the movies fast enough.
- fodder0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I haven't had a movie shipped in like 10 days, and just today finally they sent out two dvd's, lol, guess 3 couldnt make it out of my queue of like 40 movies.
I had sent them 2 emails, and they responded back with some stupid crap saying even though titles say available means they might not be available and such, and said please have 30-40 titles in your queue at all times. its ridiculous, i even told them i would probably switch to netflix. - redsox786, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I work at Blockbuster and can confirm this. One of my regular customers told me that she hadn't received a movie in over two weeks and that she contacted BBOnline and they told her that they were having "computer problems". She then received 1 e-coupon as compensation. ONE COUPON!? Come on, that's lame. Anyways, she later told me that she was gonna cancel her subscription until this was resolved. Way to go Blockbuster...
- snackle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3When I had my 1 month trial with them, it was seriously almost funny how bad it was. They sent me the second disc (special features disc) of several movies (Goodfellas, Fight Club, Memento) inside the sleeves for the first disc. 2 times I had to report DVD's as being lost in the mail. A ridiculous amount of movies in my queue were updated from Long Wait to Short Wait only to quickly return to Long Wait again. Great way to keep customers after the trial guys :P
- vbrtrmn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Never had any problems with Netflix, sometimes I forget to send a movie back for awhile, but that's my own fault. As per Blockbuster, there's a company who made their name by ripping customers off for years, this isn't a company to do business with.
- mediaphile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Actually that No Late Fees "Scam" is pretty awesome. Through Blockbuster Online I get two free in-store movie/game rentals every month (in addition to getting free movies when I return my online movies to a store) and when I get them, I check out two games which normally go for like $8 each. Then I keep them for the entire month. After the first two weeks, Blockbuster charges me the full amount of the games. But when I bring them back when my new coupons come, they refund everything but $1.25 each. So my total cost for renting two games for a month is $2.50. Not much of a scam if you use it to your advantage.
- DTM1234, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Being a longtime blockbuster online customer, I have to say that lately it's been going downhill. Almost half of the time the dvd's we get now are damaged and unwatchable. After they did the whole swap your online movies in-store for new ones, when we go to the store to swap our online envelopes for new releases, everything's sold out! There is absolutely NOTHING there to rent, Babel, Flags, Hollywoodland, Flyboys, Prestige, all gone! And the fact that they closed down 3 retail stores in my neighborhood this past year doesn't help any either.
- Matteos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This really doesn't suprise me. My friend works for them and it took them 6 weeks to fix a problem on his paycheck and for them to get him the money that they owed him.
- dime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've been a customer for months, and never had a problem.
Coincidentally... I went into the store yesterday, gave them my two envelopes, got two movies free in return... and checked today and they've already shipped me my next two.
I tend to wonder how widespread these "major problems" are. On the internet, a dozen people an epidemic makes. - RyanOC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I had 2 delivered yesterday after only 1 day of waiting.
~r - brianjz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No problems here. Just got a movie yesterday.
- ScionX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6How DARE a company want their money!!!!!!!!!
- Fratm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I had netflix for years, I finally canceled them because I was tired of getting scratched DVDs.. Was a real bummer when your movie would show up and the DVD was so scratched that you could not watch it.
-Fratm - lenaris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think there are a lot of reactionary ppl on here. My Blockbuster online account works great. I get movies coming in, can rent movies locally for free, and get a free videogame or other rental once a month to boot. I love it.
- bowels, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It is nice to return them to the store. I don't worry about late fees since I usually just load the store rentals onto my laptop while still in the parking lot, and then drop them in the return slot during the same visit. No, I don't pirate anything, I still just watch them once and then blow them off afterwards.
- AUChizad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Mine works fine too.
- ninjathis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's happened to me a few times, but you can't hold them that liable for it (it's those old people). And if you called them and told them that they would treat you like gold.
- unibomber999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Me too. Had a 10 day delay. They seem to be shipping a bit more frequently now, but at about 5 day intervals. Much slower than netflix, which I had previously and am now going back to.
- pevensen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The "return to a store" is a nice idea, but the reason I went with Netflix years ago is so 1) I wouldn't have to drive to a store to get a movie 2) I wouldn't have to drive BACK to the store to return the movie, 4) no due-dates and 5) I wouldn't have to pay any late-fees.
When you exchange a movie at a store you have to return it to that store and you can be subject to late-fees (see https://www.blockbuster.com/totalaccess)
Being able to get a movie on the spur of the moment may be nice, but then you have to live with returning it on time. No thanks! - tofu713, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2odd. my blockbuster has been arriving right on time. Maybe it's because I switched from netflix and i'm a new customer to blockbuster.
/rant on
netflix charged me for dvds before I even started the service... i had a trial, never even got one dvd. Then when i cancelled, they wanted to charge me a cancellation fee. total wack... probably an isolated incident... but really sh*tty if ya ask me
/rant off.
I hope these are just isolated issues... it would suk to wait that long for a dvd you could just go to one of their stores to pickup. - spff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am cranking through about 6-8 DVDs a week and haven't had a single problem. I wonder if it is a localized issue.
- pendraegon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've gotta say that I've really had no problems with blockbuster online, altough if you want to get a new release it's best to grab it in the store because they are really hard to get by mail.
- snutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't see it as a scam at all. It says right there on their website that there are no late fees until you're over a week or two late, then they charge you for the price of the item. And you can still return it and just pay the processing fee. Not their fault if people aren't smart enough to read the fine print. I've never had to pay a late fee since they started that policy.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All I can do is laugh at the Blockbuster folks as I look at the 3 Netflix envelopes sitting on my counter that arrived yesterday!
- revenge7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Odd, I just got a movie on Sunday.
- BradleyBo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5@ awm4: I have the same problem at the library. I read the DaVinci Code already, and nothing else really interests me.
- aakins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@bobpaul
i was having the same problem with Netflix. I had 300+ in my queue and couldn't burn them fast enough. I've since lowered my account, only queued new/upcoming releases, and bought a new 250GB HD just to use as a personal queue after the movies arrive. I've given up on burning, after collecting a couple hundred movies and only watching a dozen of them more than once, I realized that it was just a waste. I'm alot better off just renting one of the movies again if i need to see it more than once.
Plus I really enjoy watching off of my HD, it lets me get the new releases and return then immediately for others to get to see em. Works out well for everyone. - Wolfie351, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2haha, same here
- netmugger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have had no problems with Blockbuster. Shipped a movie back saturday. Got a new one back on Tuesday. Watch it. Went to store. Turned it in for a free rental on Wednesday. It's great.
