- snak3st, on 07/11/2009, -1/+57Boo, I was expecting torpedoes to be flung at each other underwater. :(
- Kakumeikeahi, on 07/11/2009, -1/+40Buried as inaccurate, I saw nothing to constitute a "Robot War" not a single robot on robot battle.
- inactive, on 07/11/2009, -1/+15Sorry no torpedoes just robots and military underwater testing facilities :)
- Ajjah, on 07/12/2009, -0/+11"War, wȯr–noun
a state of usually open and declared armed hostile conflict between states or nations"
*blink* - anthropodeus, on 07/12/2009, -0/+11this video, which came up at the conclusion of the underwater robot video, was more interesting.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8069435. ... - MrWolf, on 07/12/2009, -1/+12Correction: "Underwater Robot Tea Time"
- Junkyarddawg, on 07/12/2009, -0/+9Interesting video about interesting machines with interesting future applications, but it's got nothing at all to do with robot wars.
- Leezus, on 07/12/2009, -0/+6Oh man, remember that show on TechTV? Umm, battlebots I think it was. That was the *****.
- GlassAgate, on 07/12/2009, -0/+6No torpedoes, not interested. I'll pay to watch this when the "finishing
move" of a robot is to move to a safe distance, and torpedo the loser. - Lonandubh, on 07/12/2009, -0/+6unfortunately, the article has nothing to do with that. I wish it did.
- skipvt, on 07/12/2009, -1/+5What, no sharks with frigging lasers?
- Lonandubh, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4seriously, or at least pushing
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3aaw no hypnodisc or matilda? disappointed :)
- valkyries, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3Not really "robot wars" but there is a similar competition(called NURC) here in the states: http://www.h2orobots.org/
- JudgeMonkey, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3Or at the very least a little bit of synthesized voice name calling.
- rif42, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3Yeah, the walking/rollerblading one was amazing.
- roskelld, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3I'm giving my respects to all current and future robots around the world, for when they eventually take over I want it known that I welcome them and all the protocols they will so kindly demand us to follow.
p.s. Lemon Jelly soundtrack, sweet. - AlyxVance, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3Meanwhile, the American Universities are having the same competition except using autonomous underwater vehicles
btw, title fail, I was hoping for underwater battle bots - Dylson, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2You like that robot on robot action?
- GeordieRacer, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2Rubbish, I was expecting torpedos, not an underwater assault course. That's not a war.
- Andrewbot, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2I have brought this up in other topics, but combat robotics is still going on here in the U.S. and the U.K, it just isn't on TV anymore (besides 1-2 nights for the local news).
Battlebots died due to lawsuits and other complications, but the RFL (Robot Fighting League) formed about half a year later, with multiple event organizers making up the founding members. Their site is http://www.botleague.net
Here is a video of one of my team's bots from an event from about a month ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35BZ3ccn3V8&fea ... - snetty, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2one ping only!
- tomato1324, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2not as cool as i thought it was gonna be. this isnt robot wars, they're not destroying eachother!
- nofx1510, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2That website made my computer cry.
- JohnLawson, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1There's nothing right about this,
It'd be different if the title were, "schools battle it out for the best underwater robot". This guy put down "Underwater Robot Wars". It's misleading, and not technically correct in ANY sense. - STPZ, on 07/12/2009, -1/+2glub glub glub glub that bots a goner
- sheylas, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1Ok, where is the real FIGHT?! :)
- tdubs, on 07/12/2009, -1/+2Sounds like the title of James Cameron's next film (after Avatar)
- EminentJonFrost, on 07/12/2009, -1/+2Well that video sucked...
- Pinkertinkle, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1Where are those underwater snake things from terminator salvation
- chimera200, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1For a second I thought I was being Bono-rolled...
- Fr0stbyte124, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1Unless the script has changed drastically, I don't think it will be underwater.
- DeeKaph, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1The robotic snake camera struck my fancy too.
"That's quite terrifying, actually.."

And while it may not be a "war", it is still a tough competition. - inactive, on 07/12/2009, -1/+1Technically correct in general specification although 'war' as many words has taken on many meanings and is used in multiple contexts such as battles between rival schools and science teams. Such as the now famous 'robot wars' of which I am assuming was the basis for these war games and the BBC title selection.
- wishihadatwitch, on 07/12/2009, -1/+1i still have my money on Sean Connery in a submarine
- ChileanGoD, on 07/12/2009, -1/+1I'll make a robot Cthulhu and kick all of their shiny metal asses.
- inactive, on 07/11/2009, -3/+2Definitely a cool idea. The way science is reaching out to students in our time is great. Robots were still just movies and science fiction when I was a child. It makes me smile real big knowing my kids will have a chance at high tech hands on things like this in their lives.
- FreudOnRoids, on 07/12/2009, -1/+0Dugg for the use of Lemon Jelly :-)
- 2h3px, on 07/12/2009, -4/+1It's a good thing that bearded student got into this, otherwise he'd probably be bombing buildings in the British version of Oklahoma.
- Johnsuper, on 07/11/2009, -6/+3This is pretty neat tho. I never seen this before.
- ThatsDope, on 07/12/2009, -5/+0♫ BILLIE JEAN'S NOT MY LOVER SHE'S JUST A GIRL WHO SAID IIIIIIIIIII AM THE ONE ---- THE ki-IDD's not my son! OW! ♫
