I'd be constantly looking for a new empty space to rest a book, stack of papers, big diagram, coffee cups, etc., but these seem to assume you'll only ever want the computer and [small] notepad.
- pezz453, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4When they want you to contact them for a price, its bound to be high.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here's a CNN article from 2000 on these desks: http://archives.cnn.com/2000/CAREER/jobenvy/12/08/aura/index.html
And here's a gallery of photos:

If you have a spouse, they would not let you put one of those things inside any house. Also, if you have any judgement, you'll understand how silly they look. I guess if you want to look like Cpt. Kirk, these are the desks for you. On the other hand, if you do seek a social life, sex, and fun, you won't get this desk.
Also, at $5000, they're more expensive than most of the tricked-out PCs around - idiggit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No beer holder? No digg!
- BloodyNub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2NOTHING
NOTHING
NOTHING compared to what my company sells to Radiologists. $5000? $7,500? psh. These are $10,000. The chair alone is $2 grand. They actually raise up if you want to stand and work. Pretty kickass.
http://www.anthro.com/Videos/03_MotionControls.wmv - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I remember the first time I saw these - I think it was around 1999 or so. They were intended for offices, not homes. The idea was to use a lot of these to replace traditional cubicles.
I don't know any company that actually bought them. The point is, though, they're not supposed to go in your house. Of course they'd look stupid there.
(Just checked archive.org - the site has been up since at least 1998 for this same company. A look at the source code for the 1998 page shows a link to aura.html - clearly the same product) - rhodest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think they cost over $5000
- Inbal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What are you talking about, "ugly"?! "Air Circulation System"! "Rotation Feature"! And it has plenty of storage space and different sitting modes. I could live in this thing.
- opennet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1give me an old hollow core door and a couple of file cabinets and I am fine. the ascetic functional approach is all in vogue don't you know...
- d0gp00p, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Interesting, but with no pictures I smell another one of these "concept" Web sites with nothing to sell. Like that alarm clock that launches a noise-making drone over your head.
So, I call *****."
So I guess it's ***** that they have been shipping these desks for over a year now huh? - Thelonius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Only two displays?
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"damnit i had this idea a while ago... if only i had enough money for a patent."
Everyone has ideas. Patents go to people who do something about them. You don't need a lawer, just pick up a Nolo Press book called "Patent it Yourself."
Of course, having a patent doesn't really mean much. First of all, the invention needs to be worthwhile (anyone see American Idol, and the dork who had patented a "floating coaster"?) - and second of all, you need to actively protect it.
Either way, though, there's no such thing as "not having enough money" for a patent. - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They left out a little fridge for beverages, and a waste basket for empty chips bags!
Also, no ashtray. :-) - b04155, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"or... you could get a plane desk with 4 legs for 1/4 the price. i see little advantage, that desk would just distract me from my work"
does it fly.. 'plane' or 'plain'... learn to spell AND use the correct homonym of that word. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Tsugar: Digg Down for you.
- akaharry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You've got a smart Macintosh, so why not use smart computer furniture? The $5,500 Aura system from Poetic Technologies (888/763-8421, http://www.poetictech.com) is a self-contained workstation with its own shelving, lighting, and air-circulation system. The unit features electronic controls for ...
- kebernet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These things are really quite crappy.
Long about 2001 we got one in my office to check out. For the most part they are made of a pretty crappy consumer electronics grade plastic that is terribly unimpressive in person and a lot of fab alum that doesn't seem to fit together well.
I don't know about current pricing, but back then they ranged in the $2000-$5000.
Not worth it. At all. - astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
fugly.... just plain fugly... - bikenbc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Check out the "Digg Effect"...
http://www.poetictech.com/stats/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0bad design of both the website and the desk
- Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Meh, lots of design, but where does your computer and stuff go? There is barely room for a keyboard and mouse. My idea desk has ACREs of desk space for my monitors, laptops, various projects, and paperwork. And one of those chairs made out of that metal mesh. Aerochair or something. Those things are CRAZY comfortable.
- hollyandivy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've seen these around the net before.
They go for about $3000, but they aren't really meant for home/gamer use, companies get them. From what I've heard, the first generation were pretty crappy, but they've probably fixed that. I'm sure they could make surface accesories if you wanted more workspace...or just don't put monitors on the top shelf. I think they're pretty cool. - antigravit42, on 06/14/2009, -0/+0I like how theres one called MUSE, good band.
- CRobAKAChris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who gives about a geek desk
- cbrack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0damnit i had this idea a while ago... if only i had enough money for a patent.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0whatever, none of these have anything close to the amount of deskspace that I need for all my crap. I like my nice big L shaped desk, maybe if they'd crank out soemthing bigger I'd be more interested.
- Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Meh. I prefer my own desk. I don't need a prenetious piece of furniture that looks like a spacecraft.
- jo42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Feckin' useless - wouldn't hold 1/5th of my kit.
--digg; - jmikel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These things are terrible. Most uncomfortable desk ever. We had over a dozen of them at a prebious job. The adjustable chair adjusts in un-natural ways making it painful to endure a full work day in one.
Oh yeah, and they broke every other day. The company that makes them was constantly in doing repairs on them. There were always at least 3 or 4 that were non-operational at any given time because some random part was broken. - Zgradis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a very old desk, I looked into the desk its a very cool idea, but when the cost is 5,500 for the cheap one... Your better off buying a Simple desk and a better computer...
- davidwatson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks awesome. The price is steep, but it looks like you can choose what features you want.
$2000 for a high quality desk isn't so bad when you think that a lot of business people spend $600 for an Aeron chair.
Two things that it doesn't have that I'd want are armrests and speaker stands. - TooTameJames, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Aura would be perfect for my secret underground lair... that is if the chairs are not possessed or handled by a bunch of friggin idiots.
- UnKnownViper27, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Those arent geek desks, those are *****' GAMING DESKS!!
- clumsyninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That chair looks uncomfortable.
- Claw787, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0too small for me..but, in near future I'll build my own one........... (without the electronic chair ...of course)
- barbobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0while these look neat, i like having lots of room to throw crap around which is why i go for the L shaped desks
- jbzd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No aeron, no digg.
- Noize, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they need closer pics
- MikhoohkiM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Only two displays?"
dude there CRTs
this is lame - osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0drawings... sillly drawings
being negative about things is cool though - aznboi04k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0looks like a torturing device
- smhill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nifty stuff.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Are you kidding? These are fugly... and look impracticle, and uncomfortable. Gimme this:
http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/or28/DSC00072.JPG - Macc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0look pretty cool
- PirateX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg for the Swordfish resemblance. I want one...
- StickWST, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*orgasms* but who the ***** would buy that.
