- mayhemchaos, on 07/30/2008, -2/+41still the best one:
"I am totally serious. My Ob/Gyn was IN my vagina and an earthquake started rattling the room! "
http://twitter.com/MissRFTC/statuses/871803775 - sims89, on 07/29/2008, -3/+29Sadly, the first thing I did was Tweet... and I would have posted faster if it wasn't for the fact that my internet and phone went down.
- SulkyGirl, on 07/29/2008, -4/+27And most of my friend's had changed their Facebook status updates to something quake-related within MINUTES. I did too. Once the building (and my hands) stopped shaking...
- crxvfr, on 07/29/2008, -4/+23The internet is the internet. It all operates at the same speed. If I want breaking news, I go someplace with substantive info, not soundbytes or news one sentence at a time.
- ukblacknight, on 07/30/2008, -1/+19I still don't get twitter. That's probably the last thing that would come to mind after being in an earthquake. How exactly does twitter help? Genuine question.
- Rotzooi, on 07/30/2008, -7/+25I really hate Twitter.
- thefandango, on 07/30/2008, -0/+18twitter is the new IRC.
BRB House on fire. - Pledio, on 07/30/2008, -1/+18Firefighter: EVERYBODY, GET OUT THIS BUILDING IS GOING DOWN!
Twitter-rer: Hold on, just gotta let everyone know how "hot" I am! - vgtek, on 07/30/2008, -2/+19"Now Timmy, what do you do when an earthquake happens?"
"Twitter, Duck, and Cover!"
"Very good" - cpsutcliffe, on 07/30/2008, -0/+15Wow, so she was getting a vaginal examination when the quake hit...?
Gynaecologist: Did the Earth move for you too?
MissRFTC: Yes, oh yes... - InfodivaMLIS, on 07/29/2008, -3/+15I am in San Francisco. I got a CNN alert on my Smart Phone and knew it was all over Twitter. I am glad Fail Whale was not working. There was no outage. That is a news story.
- Frozo, on 07/30/2008, -2/+12The first thing I did was make sure my two friends were OK.
- jakatak, on 07/30/2008, -0/+8First I did twitter.
Then I blogged on it.
10 minutes later I was back to work. Hmmmm. Weird how fast things move today.
I remember as a kid we would have to wait until the 5pm news to find out what happened. - FredFredrickson, on 07/30/2008, -1/+8No, no... it's actually pretty sad.
- Rotzooi, on 07/30/2008, -1/+8Why?
Serious question. - onClipEvent, on 07/30/2008, -0/+6A good chunk (not all) of twitter users are just narcissists that believe other people really give a rats' ass of what they're doing every moment of the day....guess what, we're too busy with our own stuff to care!
same goes for shallow personal blogs that detail what the writer had for breakfast. - inactive, on 07/30/2008, -1/+6Agreed. Perhaps the biggest news story to happen today!
- revolute, on 07/30/2008, -3/+8believe me -- the surest and quickest way to verify the earthquake wasn't merely a truck rolling down the street was to check my Twitter. Every line mentioned "earthquake." It didn't hit the news for a few minutes.
- pilot3033, on 07/30/2008, -1/+6That's the other thing, nobody could use their phone because national news had picked up the story instantly; anyone who knew anyone even remotely close to Los Angeles was calling to say things like "did you feel it?" or "got an earthquake huh?" Meanwhile, people in LA who actually needed their phones to make sure ***** was cool (which most natives knew it would be, because frankly, this was a nothing quake), couldn't get through.
- DuffyDirect, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4i like how you blame people making sure friends and loved ones are okay instead of the company that doesn't provide enough telecom capacity
- EmiliaGarcia, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4C'mon, if you've EVER been to bash.org, you KNOW that it's your first priority in a crisis to jump to the internet with a "LOL I think mi house iz inna urthquake brb"
or at least a "FIRST!" - antdude, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4Heh, I screamed "QUAKE!!" in a IRC chat room and then went under my cubicle desk at work. :)
- inactive, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4You needed the internet to tell you that moving and shaking was an earthquake and not a truck?
Did you just move to California? - channelx, on 07/30/2008, -1/+4That's both sad and cool at the same time.
- leazarus, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3I don't understand a word you just said.
- inactive, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3Your internet went down? You must've been close to the epicenter.
- dougmc, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3Also, this seems appropriate --
http://bash.org/?60469 - stevenbrown, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3I thought this was the onion
- aznpwnzor, on 07/30/2008, -1/+3It helps establish yourself as one of the thousands of people that also felt an earthquake
- BossKey, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2Your head a splode
- jcm4, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2hahaha that's awesome
- Heydude008, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2same here, facebook it then went back to class
- MEatRHIT, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2Because no one loves you.
- dougmc, on 07/30/2008, -1/+3Of course, the old IRC is still around, and people were mentioning the earthquake as quickly there as they were on twitter. Which was first? No way of telling, but whichever `won', won by less than ten seconds.
- fmorel90, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2And digg is even slower cause articles have to make it to the front page.
- omgsideburns, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2I twittered the word "EARTHQUAKE" just to show up in their stupid feed.
- mayhemchaos, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2With all the up-to-date twittering about the quake, my confidence is high that all will be well and informed when the zombie apocalypse hits
- ptsuk, on 07/30/2008, -1/+3Hehe you think that there are people outside of LA who care about people IN LA, not to mention you think that there are people in LA who care about people IN LA.
- Tyrghast, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2aw I had to search my history to find it... I guess i should bookmark everything I see...
- mayhemchaos, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1If Robert Scoble can Twitter the birth of his son, then we should all Twitter major events
http://blogs.chron.com/techblog/archives/2007/09/s ... - antdude, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1People thought I was referring to id Software's game. ;)
- ptsuk, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1If you have to search then its not worth it to post on digg because likely its already there.
- unjustend, on 07/30/2008, -1/+2I heard about it on IRC. Pretty much the second it started.
"Earthquake one sec"
I laughed. - ptsuk, on 07/30/2008, -1/+2Please find some breasts that is all.
- carterartist, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1It's like how after an earthquake or you hear a really bad car accident, everyone rushes out and then group up and kind of talk about it on the streets. now we can do it but go back to what we were doing.
- tcpip4lyfe, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1wtf is the point of twitter?
- MetallicaBand, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1Twitter First, Ask Questions Later.
- Rotzooi, on 07/30/2008, -1/+2milk.
