- TheFounder, on 01/14/2009, -1/+16WTF is the CEO doing... isn't it HIS job to ensure the company has a real business model? You can build the world's coolest social media site.. but without money coming in you can't pay the hosting bill.. or in twitter's case the multi-million dollar SMS bill.
- jggube, on 01/14/2009, -1/+11Hey SouljaBoySTFU... STFU.
- JamesBondJr, on 01/14/2009, -1/+10fat, ugly Kevin Rose? Dude you don't have to use the site if you don't want, and he isn't a bad guy at all. just listen to jggube :)
- Bloodwine, on 01/14/2009, -0/+6What could possibly go wrong when you hire Twits?
- inactive, on 01/14/2009, -1/+7okays. Sorry :(
I was just joking though. I guess I'm not funny then D: - diggface5000, on 01/14/2009, -0/+5I love this from twitter's about us page:
How do you make money from Twitter?
Twitter has many appealing opportunities for generating revenue but we are holding off on implementation for now because we don't want to distract ourselves from the more important work at hand which is to create a compelling service and great user experience for millions of people around the world. While our business model is in a research phase, we spend more money than we make.
Do they know that you aren't actually supposed to follow that "Step 3: ??????? Step 4: Profit" meme as a business model? - crazlunatic, on 01/14/2009, -1/+6about time they decided to make money off it. why would they wait this long?
- FredFredrickson, on 01/14/2009, -1/+5Twitter should be called *****. It's just a collected of micro-blog garbage that nobody wants to (or should ever) read.
- zeptobyte, on 01/14/2009, -1/+4Or.. it's news?
- marksands07, on 01/14/2009, -0/+3Twitter should work on implementing the basic features that most of these web apps already did for them while they sit around and do nothing. http://twitter.pbwiki.com/Apps#WebApps
- serif69, on 01/14/2009, -1/+3If he starts implementing inline content-aware ads, their biggest cost-per-click client will be Charmin.
- diggdatt, on 01/14/2009, -5/+7Buried as twitter spam. Twitter has been busy with the diggbots for the last month or 2.
- jfitz369, on 01/15/2009, -0/+2Twitter revenue model = further developing twitter search tool and then adding Google ads to the search results.
Mission accomplished. - chchrob, on 01/14/2009, -0/+2the same way Digg makes all its profit...oh wait.
- 1Million1Year, on 01/15/2009, -0/+2Revenue plan???
SIMPLE:
a small AdSense code on the right (or left?)!
Nobody gets upset, in fact, everybody is happy:
- users use Twitter for FREE.
- owners make some decent money.
Life is fair (at least, sometimes!)! - shiftyroach, on 01/14/2009, -5/+7buried for twitter
- cardyology, on 01/14/2009, -0/+2no text updates in the uk killed twitter for me.
- chaoswings, on 01/14/2009, -0/+2Making money off a site like that is difficult. You have no direct way of making money and ads can be intrusive. Not to mention that advertisements themselves can lead to some users leaving on principle (or worse, non-ad clones pop up). So he basically had to wait it out until twitter became popular enough before trying anything.
I already see some people bitching about "twitter spam". Which is ironic because some may consider it to be nothing but spam. I mean there are twitters out there of people doing their laundry. It is not THAT interesting. - StaticThunder, on 01/14/2009, -1/+3I want to digg you a million, million times.
Its so cute, it thinks it has a business model. - inactive, on 01/14/2009, -1/+2they gots lots of plans.
- CheeseNRice, on 01/14/2009, -1/+2Synopped - http://synopit.com/summaries/196
- manjar, on 01/16/2009, -0/+0Come on, the CEO can't do *everything* - he has to stay "high level".
Just kidding, you are totally right. - jman0591, on 01/14/2009, -2/+2Kevin Rose is a saint.
- RawkusVoid, on 01/14/2009, -2/+1God forbid some one doesn't make money and runs an excellent operation.
- inactive, on 01/14/2009, -8/+5If only we had more intelligent people running this website, like those hired by Twitter. Instead we stupid, fat, ugly Kevin Rose.
- cubicledrone, on 01/14/2009, -7/+3The minute they try to make money, everyone will scream and whine and QQ and their users will all leave.
You can't make money on the Internet. If you do content, it will get pirated. If you do community, your ads will get blocked. If you try to charge a subscription, nobody will sign up. If you ask for donations, everyone will say "why should we?" If you're really determined, you might make it six months. Maybe a year. Then you'll give up because you're broke and because everybody wants everything for free.
Probably because nobody has a ***** job.
Hulu puts ads in their videos and that's fine, because that's television. Everyone else gets a middle finger, even though people lie about wanting better content. Therefore the web will become television. The fatasses will stay in charge and everyone else will work minimum wage at Gamestop or the jewelry kiosk. Because that's the way the sheep want it. - bigfigdesign, on 01/14/2009, -7/+2revenue plan? yes please. good news for Tweets? hmm
