- Quadrophenic, on 05/01/2008, -12/+64Maybe I'm too misanthropic to appreciate Twitter, but I really can't see how it's anything more than a way for like-minded bores to share the banal details of their banal lives in the hope that someone out there gives a crap that they are currently enjoying a lovely cup of tea.
- iamafatguy, on 05/01/2008, -1/+34Okay, poop is coming out
- fkr3, on 05/01/2008, -5/+28Welcome to web 2.0. Idiots pretending idiots matter, via their blogs and the dozens of "must-use" services they use to share their pointless lives.
- snuffulupagus, on 05/01/2008, -1/+20How I feel about Twitter is summed up by this comic: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/4/23/
- JavertHolmes, on 05/01/2008, -3/+18This thread has been reserved for Twitter meta-posts. Here's one to start:
Reading an article about Twitter being all the rage right now. - pegothejerk, on 05/01/2008, -2/+16I am at home typing on my laptop trying to explain to you that twitter is not a chat service but a way to tell people in one-hundred-and-fou
- JavertHolmes, on 05/01/2008, -2/+16Ever have a conversation with a really boring person that goes over everything they did that day in excruciating detail, having no concept whatsoever of the fact that talking about wearing the wrong shoes and getting a blister while going for a walk is of no interest?
Twitter is that conversation in slow motion... updated every 8 minutes.
The only two *readers* of Twitter I can think of are stalkers and people's mothers. - scooterfish, on 05/01/2008, -2/+15Wait, are you talking about Twitter or Digg??
- yellowfish04, on 05/01/2008, -0/+12nope, you pretty much hit it right on the money
- bamafun, on 05/01/2008, -0/+9Twitter Post and Thread just made the Digg Home Page
- endlessoul, on 05/01/2008, -0/+9Tycho is being a douche.
- yellowfish04, on 05/01/2008, -2/+10intelligent people still use myspace? surely you jest?
- DAaaMan64, on 05/01/2008, -2/+9I'll be the anti-digger here and mention a few useful things twitter does.
Several offices uses twitter to keep in touch with employees on the go.
Also News stations have twitter accounts often so they can send you the news for free.
My friends send me impressions of new games(Mario Kart Wii for example), oh and their thoughts on a movie they just saw.
There are good reasons to use twitter. - RunningboardV2, on 05/01/2008, -1/+8WTF IS GOOGLE????????!!!
- Flashman, on 05/01/2008, -2/+9Commenting on a Digg thread while the kettle boils.
- VinnieDaMac, on 05/01/2008, -2/+9I hope my life is never so pathetic that I must read about what OTHER people are doing.
- lazyrussian, on 05/01/2008, -1/+7The best thing to come out of Web .0, is Porn 2.0 - I mean like flash video porn :p
Men, do you agree? - JavertHolmes, on 05/01/2008, -1/+7"Just posted a 4th-level self-referential comment to Digg. I think the site is going to explode."
"Still straining on the toilet. I think I've hurt myself." - yellowfish04, on 05/01/2008, -1/+7juggling 5 firefox tabs of different varieties of porn while throwing digg in the rotation every third round or so. also, just ate a Dum-Dum.
- jynweythek, on 09/17/2008, -3/+9what's with all the digg articles about twitter lately?
- fartbuttes, on 05/01/2008, -1/+7but... but... my egocentric world view! you've shattered it!
- lukifer, on 05/01/2008, -0/+5The Twitter cookie lasts forever, so you never have to log in. It becomes very ADD once you start following some interesting or clever people.
- Angostura, on 05/01/2008, -1/+6But I want to know! Are you looking out of your window? Are you changing your socks? Are you perhaps on a train. I NEED TO KNOW damnit.
- salmonmoose, on 05/01/2008, -2/+7Beyond the microblogging, it is a handy tool as an interface between web-apps, or web-apps / desktop apps
- lukifer, on 05/01/2008, -0/+5Blog/RSS + ADD
- Angostura, on 05/01/2008, -2/+6But I want to know! Are you looking out of your window? Are you changing your socks? Are you perhaps on a train. I NEED TO KNOW damnit.
- KibibyteBrain, on 05/01/2008, -1/+5Umm, maybe these "like-minded" drones you speak of are what others call, uh, friends? If you are going to a movie or something, its pretty convenient to just twitter that and let all your friends know by their personal preferred means of receiving tweets. And then you can meet up in real life. Imagine that.
- Grogtron, on 05/01/2008, -1/+4Given the timing... I wonder how much of that traffic is a product of Gabe announcing he was using it to announce his broadcasts.
- wipis, on 05/01/2008, -2/+5Funny seeing this article just about 24 hours after I joined twitter.
- mcalvink, on 05/01/2008, -1/+4Yea I joined about a week ago. Goofed around with it for a few days and said this is boring said hell with this. Now I been trying to delete my account for a couple days. But no luck! When I try here is the message i get "Sorry! Account deletion has been very temporarily disabled.". WTF?
- CrushThemTorg, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3I want to be the first ***** to remind everyone that correlation does not equal causality.
- Shigglyboo, on 05/01/2008, -7/+10I still don't know what twitter is. from a recent article I saw it would seem it's nothing more than a chat service? Micro-blogging? I have no idea what that is. I would say it's definitely 'niche'. Kinda like how facebook is only for kids in school while the rest of the world is on myspace...
- santaliqueur, on 05/01/2008, -3/+6What's with all the comments asking "what's with all the...lately" lately?
- cyberdork, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3Am I the only one who thinks that this whole MySpace/FaceBook crap is much much worse than a simple clean site like twitter?
- dlsspy, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3How are they measuring traffic? Does this include my jabber connection? If I'm connected to jabber all day, is that one traffic point? Does it count my updates? My friend's updates? My tracks?
Can they compare it to usage of other chat networks? To other blog networks? - cyberdork, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3I wonder how many of the twitter-haters in this thread actually spend half their days on FaceBook uploading photos, starting 'discussions', setting up FaceBook chat, writing comments and adding strangers as 'friends'....
- adamsacres, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3I love the twitter. Great way to connect and find out what the most important parts of a person's day is. It is awesome relationship marketing tool. If you follow the right niche of people you get excellent work related info as well as forming personal connections. It is like an instant think tank when you need info.
- tiuk, on 05/01/2008, -1/+3Exactly. I don't use twitter, but I probably would if my friends did. It really does seem like a great way to coordinate between a group of people. I don't care about "microblogging" and writing about what kind of pizza I'm about to eat, but for basic communication, why not?
- lukifer, on 05/01/2008, -1/+3Follow @hotdogsladies and @lonelysandwich and go from there. Trust me. *nod*
- didtzer, on 05/01/2008, -2/+4I just registered for a twitter account, actually. But with everyone on facebook its hard for me to get my friends to join twitter and I'm lonely on the site :( Twitter unfortunately does not have much use in my opinion unless you have a network of friends. And none of my friends use it/want to.
- AlexLand, on 05/01/2008, -2/+4Well, the problem is that the few idiots with blogs that people actually read LOVE twitter. They're self centered, the site is all about narcissism, it's a win-win.
- boldfire, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2I don't see Facebook and Twitter in the same category. I use both, and my facebook status message is synced with my twitter so it's the same for both sites. But I can use Twitter to do easy status updates on: Adium, Facebook, my blog and of course the main twitter site all from the web, my phone or IM - it's convenient more than anything.
- DreKor, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2thats why i started
- Flashman, on 05/01/2008, -1/+3Wishing I'd thought of the meta-comment comment first.
- sonofagunn, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2Really, apps can use it to communicate? Is it better than some REST or web-service interfaces?
- Premier, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2I just had to check, too bad, it's taken already.
- Rethcir, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2I don't need another glorified away message.
- Pogojoe, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2Your rock. Go back under it.
- fartbuttes, on 05/01/2008, -4/+6Why do you care what he does? If he doesn't matter - according to you - then why do you care so much that you had to ask this question? owned. go home.
- CrushThemTorg, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2It's the sound of the internet masturbating.
