- Nothlit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I never mucked around with anything else besides limiting my upload speed to about 1/2 of its full capacity. Uploading faster than that makes my download speeds suffer as a result. But with that limit in place, most torrents fly down the pipe to me as fast as my connection will allow.
- PunchMeIBleed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0who knows where to get tcpip.sys?
- Zzang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well what is your connection max anyways, also, it varies between torrent to torrent. For example, the twit torrents are very heavily seeded by the twit servers, and I max out within seconds there at around 300 KBPS. Looking in the peerdata I see one server supplying most of it. If you check other torrents, you may not get that kind of speed easily. I will do some testing on BitTornado, though ive used it before, and I never got the results I did with Azureus.
- saleshustla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hi please help i have been trying for days to try and get the LVLORDS PATCHER from the link it just goes to some foreign lycos page i dont think the link works does anyone have any suggestions i cant find it anywhere
- treggs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0liz4rd you are either full of ****** or you dont download many torrents I have down loaded many torrents on linux using both bit torrent and azureus and sometimes it comes down quick if its a computer program or info, but if its a movie then its not much different than windows and in fact the other day my film downloaded quicker in windows than linux so dont try and put it across on here that linux is the answer to peoples speed problems if you really think you can max out every torrent try one with one seed then see how fast you are dumbo
- treggs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You people are so thick it is imposible to always max out on torrent downloads no matter what you do you may think that people will think your amaizing because of what you say but anyone who knows anything knows your full of ******
- swtswag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i love this tweak
- lavan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hi
i tried doing everything on this tweak but nothing works. Do i need to do it on my server computer or can i do it on any? - saleshustla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 hi please help i have been trying for days to try and get the LVLORDS PATCHER from the link it just goes to some foreign lycos page i dont think the link works does anyone have any suggestions i cant find it anywhere please help i really wanna try this
[reply] - motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This sounds like a noob's guide. I use BitTornado uncustomized and always max out at my top possible speed just by tweaking the upload rate properly. BitTornado is the Firefox of BT clients - quick, small, no bloat. No Java either, which is a huge bonus. Azureus is a massive ram hog too.
- Porkape, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love this tweak. Is there a way to auto resume when an Error occurs? I have to restart Azureus and then force download which rechecks the entire file before resuming, which is quite a hassle if I am away from the computer. Thanks
- liquidice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1works pretty well, i'm getting about 3x my normal speed.
- pr0t3st, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^ I've used Bit Tornado. By the time I was done with a single download I had uploaded two maybe three times the download size regardless of the settings. I have used just about everything and Azeurus was the easiest, fastest and most compatible client I have used....I would even play counterstrike while using it but I can't do that with BitComet and only sometimes with Bit Tornado.(I connect via Wireless LAN)
- motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Well what is your connection max anyways, also, it varies between torrent to torrent."
You just answered the question for me. ;-)
Seriously, I ran Azureus for a couple of weeks because I wanted to see what the fuss was. I tweaked it to death but found no advantage over BitTornado with regards to speed and efficiency. Frankly I'm shocked it's so highly recommended by the likes of Leo Laporte et al.
After close to 3 years of u/l and d/l torrents I haven't found a better client than BitTornado. It's simple, efficient and isn't bloated. The perfect software trifecta. ;-)
http://www.bittornado.com/ - XMORDECAIX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is why I love Azureus.
- pr0t3st, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Windows XP SP2 and tcpip.sys patch with BitComet
Windows XP SP2 limits the number of TCP connection attempts to 10 (quite small ). If there are more concurrent TCP connection attempts, Windows generates a warning: EventID 4226: TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts. Since XP SP2 there are only 10 concurrent TCP connection attempts possible, while in SP1 this number has not been limited. (A connection attempt is a query to a computer about whether it accepts the TCP connection or not. If the computer is, for example, no longer available, the requestor will
wait for a few seconds, after which a timeout occurs and the connection attempt gets canceled.)
BitComet 0.55 and above were modified for SP2 so that they can work in SP2 without any configuration. However, this may cause slow speed at the beginning of downloading, since fewer peers can be connected at the same time. For those behind a NAT or firewall, the thrid-party patch [Download] for tcpip.sys to fix that SP2 issue is still recommended. Read here: http://www.bitcomet.com/news/20040908_xp2_4226.htm After you installed that patch, you may need to change the Max Simultaneous TCP connection attempts in the BitComet Options - Advanced - Connections Dialog.
- Zzang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@relavasius
Well if you always max out in decently seeded torrents, you probably dont need this guide, or you have a "slow" connection that maxes at 150kbps or so. Also, I have gotten close to maxing out my connection on torrents that are not too well seeded, because I was connected to nearly the whole swarm.
@Prot3st
If you are checking out on the nat/firewall test that means the ports are open, so I dont know whats going on, maybe you didnt make the torrent active by pressing the green arrow, I have no clue what is going on, maybe you arent uploading at all, which could explain low speeds.
@motionblur
Ive used bit tornado before, I just didnt realize it. It is shad0ws experimental client, and when I used that it really didnt work well for me. As soon as I switched over to Azureus, I got much better speeds, and then I went and tweaked it a little, and now i'm maxing out my connection You say that you have three years of uploading and downloading experience, ive been doing it for atleast 3, if not longer, and I found azureus to be the best hands down.
@prt3st
If you use azureus and the tweaks that I gave you, it will work percfectly. The patcher that I have given is to change exactly what the bitcomet fix is doing. You dont have service pack 2 so it doesnt matter for you, you just follow my other tweaks and you should be fine. - Zzang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Stevox What router / firewall do you have. Thats probably the next addition that I will be adding to the article.
- StevoX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I have a Linksys EtherFast BEFSR11 router.
- swat_leader, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0so the only file that this changed is the tcpip.sys?
- doofus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@Zzang
Thx dude - mutant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0awesome digg.. thnx
- pr0t3st, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Ok I have the service patch1 and for some reason when I open the patch dos cmd it tells me I have no limitations and that the patch has been aborted....I also switched to BitComet after my Azeuras stopped working. Is there no way to get this patch to work for BitComet? I see nothing in the preferences menu to change around.
- Zzang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0In the near future, and if demand is high enough, I will probably write an article on how to tweak bit torrent in more detail, perhaps even with other clients. In my testing however, ive found Azureus as the ABSOLUTE BEST performer when it comes to speed, especially if you follow my tweaks.
- Zzang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0But to get the best speed, you have to have some upload bandwidth available, and having mutliple torrents open can give you much slower speeds because your upload bandwidth may become saturated, or you may not be uploading fast enough to any given slot.
- Zzang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@ Pr0test
The patch doesnt affect service pack 1, it is only for service pack 2 because in SP2 the number of outgoing connections is limited. Even so, using the other tweaks that I posted in the azureus options tab, you should still get a significant boost in speed, especially since the maximum outgoing connections default is 8!
@Swat_leader
yes, the only file that is chagned is tcpip.sys. Also a backup is made just in case that something goes arwy, though it is very unlikely. - TheGooseyOne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0great tweaks, though I just started using Azureus because of this, so don't have much to compare to, though I never got speeds this good with BitLord
- StevoX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0How do you open a port for listening?
- Zzang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0yeah this method really helps. i went from about 50-100 average to around 300+ average.
- relevasius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This makes no sense to me. I always end up getting the max speeds in a decently seeded torrent, and when there aren't many seeds or peers, who cares about the limitations on the outbound connections, since you probably aren't reaching the limit anyways.
- okcookienc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0AWESOME. The swarm is averaging 30, and i'm at 256+. 55 peers in storm, 17 seeders.
- Zzang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0SQL server? this has nothing to do with the patcher. This came from somewhere else.
- jerryb123, on 07/01/2009, -1/+0I getting this SQl server window on start up, which stays in my task bar after installing the TCP/IP patcher. Any ideas how to eliminate this? Win Xp pro Sp2
- okcookienc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Amazing results. My original speed was awful slow, varying between 12 KBPS and maybe 50 KBPS for a torrent from torrentspy (admitedly now well seeded) with 16 seeders and a ton of leechers. After optimizing, my speed is topping 100 KBPS and it's early... expecting flying speeds with piratebay.
- Zzang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0go to Tools > Options. Click on the "Queue" section and change the maximum active torrents box.
- pr0t3st, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0My Azureus is broken...I have forwarded my port(this didin't help)and configured everything to the T but for some reason I am not connecting to anyone or anything. My Tracker Status' seems "OK" and My download status' say downloading but nothing ever happens. BitComet works however...but I am sure that I could get Az. to work faster with the port forward tweak. Anyone know enough about Az. to help me out? My NAT/Firewall tests pass and everything seems to be on the correct settings but I am still clueless.
- doofus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0How come the Bit Torrent client will not let me download more than one item at once?
- Zzang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Well the patcher itself can restore it, if you execute it after you changed it, it will detect a new one and ask you if you want to restore it. Also, it makes a tcpip.sys.backup file in the system32 folder i believe
- liquidice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0in that patch, they said they had put a tcpip.original.sys somewhere in your computer, not sure where though, just search around for it.
- Porkape, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I have used Azureus and Shareaza they work well but for some reason my home network slows down a lot. But for faster torrent speeds I am willing to try it. How do I restore my TCPIP.sys if this doesnt work for me? Cheers
- Zzang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Like I said in the guide, do a quick search on google..
http://www.google.com/search?hs=7tQ&hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=port+forwarding+linksys+etherfast&btnG=Search
The port you need to open is 6881 UDB/TCP - liz4rd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0LOL at winblows, i max out every torrent on linux :P without tweaking
- psychomantis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I guess i Should switch to azures good bye Bitornado you served me well.
