Tumblr Reaches version 3.0
blog.davidville.com — Davidville has released the newest version of tumblr, a popular tumblog platform.
- 533 diggs
- digg it
- idioteque1025, on 11/03/2007, -1/+9The article says there are over 400 new features. I thought tumblr was supposed to be the minimalist type blog. Anywho, 3.0 looks pretty pimp.
- monkeestylee, on 11/02/2007, -13/+5i'd check it out right now, but i gotta go to the crappr
- airstrike, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3i also wondr why people like removing vowels from words to turn them into trendy names. it gets kinda repetitive aftr a while.
- LJRod82, on 11/02/2007, -10/+1Oh man, a blog! I thought this was a link to Batman's new car in The Dark Knight.
- Catharsis, on 11/02/2007, -1/+3... except this is the official Tumblr blog.
Yeah, beats me why it's not blog.tumblr.com or tumblr.com/blog.- LJRod82, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1Yeah, those would make a lot more sense.
- Catharsis, on 11/02/2007, -1/+3... except this is the official Tumblr blog.
- queraxus, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1Nice.
- happytedium, on 11/02/2007, -1/+15Not bad. Tumblr is a very cool idea and 3.0 looks really nice, however I'm still a bit bummed that there's no comments - or at least something like it.
- superdoofus, on 11/03/2007, -0/+9disqus.com has code and support for adding comments if you want to.
- obscurelyfamous, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3You can try the comment system from Disqus.com. It integrates perfectly with Tumblr.
Disclaimer: I work on Disqus. :)- tomharrow, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1not for the hosted version though? i.e. x.tumblr.com
- cmyke, on 11/02/2007, -0/+0Here's a bit of feedback: Learn from Tumblr. Your comment system is bloated. Make it simple.
Let people post comments and THAT'S IT. No ratings, no links to comment RSS feeds, etc. It's way over the top and it's the only reason why I haven't added it to my Tumblr account.
- tomharrow, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3i agree... comments are paramount
- superdoofus, on 11/04/2007, -1/+4damn! i just logged in on my iphone and it does look amazing and integrates beautifully. not bad for a company with a staff of two people.
- YourTechSupport, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5Is there a self-hosted version of this? Or some wordpress hack that'll amount to the same?
- Theipolicy, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1I like my tumblr and all...but now this 3.0 version isn't giving me permission to post to my own blog. So...I can't say it has any usefulness at the moment.
- livejamie, on 11/04/2007, -1/+5gelato cms is an open source package that's very similar if you want to host it yourself

i can't wait to see what the tumblr guys do with comments though, that's the only thing keeping me from taking the dive - Mysticum, on 11/02/2007, -2/+4It's funny to see all the Web 2.0 words where the "e" has been cut out, e.g. flickr, tumblr. It reminds me of Old Norse, where such endings are common (and the only place I've seen that sort of clustering).
- ZicklePop, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1Too many bugs! RSS Feeds don't work (for me) and are limited now to five. Drop down menus bug out in Firefox.
- laroi, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1i like the new version alot, i especially like the new archives feature
- Zzone, on 11/02/2007, -1/+5im gonna start my own website, its gonna be called badspellr.com
- Bokista, on 11/02/2007, -2/+1Wow! I never noticed the trend that all of these websites are dropping the 'e' from their name!
- camkerr, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1I still can't reorder / change the date of posts.
- spdracerx, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2If you click on the advanced options link at the bottom of the 'edit post' screen, it lets you change the date/time and also add tags.
- Hoogs, on 11/04/2007, -0/+3This is obviously Web 2.0 fluff, what with its misspelled name and color gradients.
- r2builder, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2Look beyond that - this is a very powerful application. You can completely redesign the entire layout, and use your own domain. That solves your problems. Tumblr is great.
- Hoogs, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1I was being sarcastic, I'm sure it's great.
- Rodreegez, on 04/07/2008, -0/+0it is great, but it is also very 2.0 - massive login text boxes, condensed fonts. Very nicely done though!
- Hoogs, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1I was being sarcastic, I'm sure it's great.

- cmyke, on 11/04/2007, -3/+0New UI? The last one was fine, minor change. Better photo compression? Could have done that without "3.0." Vimeo integration and mp3s? Nice for the 3 people that'll use it. Channels? Stupid. Privacy and post dates and /archives? Cool, but minor. API, aimbot and 4 themes? Eh.
Lodwick adds, “This is the best thing to happen on the web in 2007.”
So delusional. - perot9296, on 11/02/2007, -0/+0I hope someone makes an open source clone of tumblr. I really like the ease of use and layout.
- livejamie, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1uhh... i posted one lol
- perot9296, on 11/02/2007, -0/+0I have my digg threshold pretty high nowdays so I dont see a lot of comments :p but I see it now.
- logic, on 11/03/2007, -0/+1I've played around with two RoR-based clones. Can't think of their names at the moment, but neither are particularly mature. To be honest I'd be more comfortable starting from scratch than trying to customize them...which I'll probably have to do. :-/
- livejamie, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1uhh... i posted one lol
- iconolith, on 11/06/2007, -0/+0I have to agree with the consensus that Tumblr needs to support commenting. I haven't come across anything out there yet that allows me to aggregate multiple feeds AND comment on them. It would be the perfect way to follow someone's aggregated attention and have a conversation about it. I aggregate my blogging across 3 sites, my delicious, my Flickr photos, my shared items from Google, and my Twitters and so far Tumblr is the "prettiest" way to do that without running those feeds through feedburner or xfruits and customizing the styling myself. As soon as someone creates a tool that can do all that, I'm there.
- iconolith, on 11/06/2007, -0/+0Thanks for the tip on http://discus.com superdoofus. It works like a charm.
