- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -6/+55Windows Vista totally ripped off its transparency effects from this butterfly. Copycats.
- bryancharles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+49i bet it uses css for the transparency and rounded corners.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+38it's not technology specifically, but it is science
- modusop, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30I know this isn't tech, but if it weren't for digg, I would've never known about this. Hurrah for digg's ability to bring the obscure into the public eye.
- dpk87, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21very cool. But if you think about it, most insects have transparent or semi-transparent wings, just not as big.
- brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Can I get a skin implant of that?
'Cause being a walking intestine would be pretty nifty. - drumsnstuff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasswing_Butterfly
Wikipedia seems to disagree... - master_of_fm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9the thing is that butterflies see in the ultraviolet range of light, so to other butterflies the wings might not seem transparent to them, just an interesting fact i picked up somewhere
- gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Indeed. We Diggers, like, have a mission, man.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10It's science related. Good enough for me. Digg!
- sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Nature never ceases to amaze me...
- brhad56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Why does everyone always dismiss everything as photoshopped? This is real, retard.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11I, for one, welcome our new transparent butterfly overlords.
(It was my turn to say that. Sorry!) - Greg-J, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Mirrors:

- ggko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Not only will people never suspect the butterfly, they won't see it either!
- Nesh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Do I sense a "Diggers Manifesto" coming on? :-)
- stan205, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Way cool, saw a couple of them when I was in Costa Rica.
- TedTschopp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5If all is to be believed by the zealots out there, Steve did it first on the Mac.
- akatrito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3of course, everything looks photoshopped to people who spend all day on the computer and never actually go out to see anything "natural"
- Haplo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So god must be quite some photo shopper then, since I have seen this butterfly often in Mexico (where I life). Educated yourself before blurting out nonsense.

- JimDinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just think of the things in nature that we havent even found out about.Theres more to the earth than just us.
- lokai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"I have to laugh a little at those who thought these were real photos.
Didn't you guys notice that you can't see one wing through the other? :)"
Why don't you find this believable? Don't many other flying insects have transparent wings? Why not butterflies? Did you bother to take the time to look up "Glasswing butterfly" in a reputable source? My National Audubon Society guide on butterflies shows a few photographs of these nifty critters, and I'm willing to bet that the National Audubon Society isn't into photoshopping insects. - sixister, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not tech.... science maybe?
Robots in disguise? - Cyberdactyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Another goober bangin on his keyboard before doing 15 seconds of research
- DBCA, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Old news! These things evolved millions of years ago ;)
- DellMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not to disrespect, but your skin is clear, its just that you have so many layers it becomes opaque.
- arkanoid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2beauty
- greenbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you relize butterflies are the only bugs that most people aren't afraid of (besides ladybugs)? i'm sure if they had no wings they'd freak out out any little six year old. but any this is cool. seeing this and transparent fish i bet there are transparent lizards out there as well.
- Julz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1At First i thought this was real... then i did a bit of google-ing and i started to think its fake and photoshoped due to the fact that the pictures give off the appearance of there being two wings with one in front of the other, but after looking at other photos http://www.butterflyhousegallery.co.uk/BUTTERFLY/Images/GLASSWING-1.jpg you can clearly see theres is two wings together, what a wicked butterfly!
- Blujoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I want a buttyfly collection,,?
- jgreath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, butterflies do fold their wings together and hold them vertically, which would make it appear as if they only had one wing when viewing them from the side.
Also, in the lower left portion of the "montage" shot, you can clearly see the second wing through the first. - archangeloliver, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They're so small...why would they need transparent wings? And wouldn't it make more sense to have the outer parts of the wings to be green?
- Darkness123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool, i thought it was photoshopped until I read the comments and it seems its real.
- Haplo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Obscure? Seen them, but hey, I live in Mexico. For some other obscure animals, have a look at:
http://johnbokma.com/mexit/2005/11/26/ and http://johnbokma.com/mexit/2005/10/01/ - anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A worthwhile digg.

- MarcusE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just... wow.
And bugg. I mean dugg. - d03boy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very cool.

- ggko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Butterflies pantsed him in gym class and took his lunch money every day.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think that 2nd comment on the site is damn funny....
"Butterflies suck"
Who says that? What did a butterfly ever to do anyone? LOL - Daniel591992, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@brhad56
