- templest, on 10/12/2007, -3/+41Finally! I can feel what it's like to touch boobies without having to steal mannequins from Sears!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29E-Braille! This is exactly what visually impaired people have been waiting for.
- dipswitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20No. I imagined someone touching a touch screen, gently at first, then getting frustrated at it and pressing it repeatedly until the screen gives him a punch in the face.
- MadOgre, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18In Soviet Russia the touch scre... oh... never mind.
- neverender, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11The day where i can slap people across the Internet draws closer.

LOL Am I the only one who thinks that was a weird title to post for this? - NJank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6and by nature videos I assume you're referring to documentaries of the mating habits of homosapiens in their natural habitat?
- Zarxrax, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8As nice as this sounds, does anyone actually like touching a touch screen with their fingers? I can't stand to touch my DS screen with my finger because it smudges up the screen, then I get all obsessive compulsive and have to clean it off right away...
- Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5T-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-TOUCH ME! OW!
But really, this would be interesting. Imagine a new touchscreen iPod giving clickies through your finger while selecting songs or menus? That's be pretty sweet if it worked and was a reliable technology. - jschrab, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6In Soviet Russia, "that sort of thing..." avoids YOU!
- roadkill001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4 gamekid - It's funny how modded down you are if anyone actually looked at your page they would laugh there ass off at how horrible it is.
- DerekJ212, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Perhaps you mean PulseTouch from Alpine?

- DrakeGTA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3ha ha, that was the fight thought that came to my mind too.
- digitalpoint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The PulseTouch stuff in Alpine is pretty sweet too. Almost made me get an Alpine for my car even though I hate their GUI. ALMOST... :)

No pun intended. - Terc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I beleive Pioneer has been using a similar technology on their in-car dvd players...

http://digg.com/hardware/Touchscreens_get_Force_Feedback_feel. - soogy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No, you're not alone. I'm sure there are many who can't wait to be "touched" by their monitors while watching nature videos.
- gameboyhippo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I was thinking the same thing. I'm trying to picture the next Wario Ware game that utilizes this feature. Perhaps we'll see "Operation" the video game! When you mess up trying to pull junk out of that guys body, the game could vibrate and buzz at the same time.
- jsmiley17, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All I have to say about this touchsense technology is, it's about time! It's hard enough trying to press the right button while using ATMs; I never know if I'm hitting the right button. But, if you could actually feel the button, it would make it so much easier, and I bet many more products/services would benefit from it. 'Course, this probably means more people will be willing to gamble on those video poker machines if they can feel the buttons they're pressing, LOL
I found some pics of the touch screen and the actuators used: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1963811,00.asp - mvnicosia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Next week's headline...Adult Film Industry First to Implement New Touch Screens that Touch Back!

Bring-on First Person Mortal Kombat - HydraulicToast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its a new way to take blood from kids. they play a touch screen game in the doctors room, and when they lose, the screen gives them a prick in the thumb.
- Terc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Sorry, it was Alpine

Edit:DerekJ212, you beat me to it, this was the first model though... way back in 2004 - samdu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I had one of the Logitech iFeel mice that used Immersion technology to send different force feedback information to the mouse when you moved the pointer over different types of objects or "meterials" (think sand or gravel in a game). It sounded really cool. And a few games took explicit advantage of the tech (Black & White for instance). In the end, though, it was pretty useless and gimicky. This display technology sounds similar. I'm sure there are applications for it, but so far, no one seems to have found compelling ones yet.
- deadmoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought other companies already had this. I distinctly remember seeing a pioneer audio head unit with similar technology.
- gameboyhippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yay! Something else for Sony to steal!
- cpbrown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1actually this technology is not so new ... it was built into a prototype phone over a year ago. at the time (i havn't caught up with that particular one) it was used for onscreen keyboards which instead of giving an annoying click noise simply gave a touch feedback.
- Flynnz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1here is the bypass box for alpine units...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Pac-TR-7-TR7-Alpine-Video-Bypass-IVA-D300-D900-D901-NEW_W0QQitemZ170000245981QQcategoryZ38636QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem - cmiller1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1now touch-screen keyboards will be less unmanageable, which would make a dual screen laptop (a la gameboy DS) with an onscreen keyboard become a very nice possibility :)
- ripter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Heh I owned an iFeel mouse back in the day too! I could never get black & white to use it properly. I set mine to 'ding' when it was over buttons, which was cool for a while
- ThatsUnpossible, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The killer app for this is universal entertainment remotes that use touch screens. They currently suck because you have to look at them to use them, whereas with your traditional remote, you get used to how the layout feels and don't have to take your eyes off the TV. I would buy one of these remotes if it had this technology in it.
- Flynnz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@rnelsonee
Well I cant speak for other units, but its not that easy on the Alpine. You have to do a series of things to turn on dvd playback. You have to hold the "foot" brake, while you hit the ebrake up and down (and leave in the up position after), then release the foot brake. The only way to really get past it is to buy a programmable bypass box. (easily found on eBay) - skydivingdutch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have played with these screens at a closed tech demo once. It was pretty cool. You press an onscreen button, and the feedback lets you know when you hit it.
- Flynnz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well I have the alpine iva-d300. And as far as I know it was the first to have tactile feedback with touchscreen.
I will say though....its cool, but doesnt really make you feel like you are hitting buttons at all.
Though it does make it easier to interface while driving :) - rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, when a mechanic installs a DVD player that's viewable to the driver, he must (by law) ensure that it's not usable while the car is in motion. So they can hook it up to the e-brake, gearbox, speedometer... etc.
The reason they choose the ebrake?
1) It's easy to attach to the e-brake wire, since it runs from the middle console to behind the dash (for the light).
2) They know that anyone with any sort of car IQ will be able to quickly find this connection and disable it. If they made this hard to do, the customers would just go somewhere else who wouldn't mind making the connection easy to find/disable. - DangerMouse9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Damn you beat me to it. I was just gonna say something about it being used for something a bit more risque.
- LtDyson52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And before you know it, a Sony Double Screen w/ Touchback feedback!!! What a concept!
- TheJuggernaut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As one of the few remaining users of Immersion/Logitech's TouchSense mouse, I can say I'm really digging the idea of the screen. I've gotten so used to the little bumps and vibrations the mouse gives that other mice feel "broken..."
- misxn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh Behaave!
- DasAmigo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...people with easily disrupted pacemakers beware...
- wistar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Seiko-Epson has had tactile feedback LCD touchscreens, and in very small form factors, for more than a year.
- FelixWankel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That Alpine unit is pretty sweet. Like everyone else, that's what I've hated about touchscreens buttons for the longest time.
Also, off topic, but thought this was interesting: "When you're parked (with the emergency brake engaged), you can use the 7" LCD as a display for your DVD movies and videos." Is that just a suggestion or is the guy who installs this thing supposed to hook it up to your e-brake? Seems silly for them to have to bring that up since there is the obvious case for passengers watching stuff while someone else is driving. Liability issues, I guess. - philomatic, on 02/08/2009, -1/+1This will change porn as we know it!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Touchback screens + flexible LCD screen technology + panties...
