- jerryparid, on 10/10/2007, -6/+45Buried; trying to clean up public torrent sites is like dumping a bucket of bleach into a sewage treatment plant.
- schoate09, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26Kill yourself.
- .Steven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21Funny if this site was run by RIAA/MPAA..... :P
- fennec, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14How long before those poisoning the torrent sites with fake/malware torrents start poisoning torrentspam's database by reporting false info and making it unusable.
Heck, it will make it easier for them. See your IP being shared on a torrent site, report it to torrentspam and nobody will download it! At least until people stop trusting torrentspam. Win-win situation. - alx1507, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Its hard enough to get people to SEED the torrent. What are the odds of people taking the time to report a torrent. This is why some of the better torrent sites have comment systems for the torrent, you read those to see if its a good torrent or not.
- hammerhand82, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11The beauty of Bit Torrent is the community aspect, If it is a bogus download you post a comment saying it trash.
And you simply Stop Seeding, lets not forget what makes this the best P2P solution - MavRevMatt, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Dugg, however it's not going to do much. Good effort and idea, but it just won't work.
- cbergeron, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Why is this even necessary? Bad torrents die naturally. It could be used as a case study in natural selection.
By the nature of it being peer to peer, if someone downloads a bad torrent, they will delete it. Which makes it less available, which in turn makes it less likely to be redistributed and propagate.
Buried as useless. torrents work themselves out because people only keep/propagate good quality ones. - tacojohn48, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I can never figure out why there are thousands of people seeding malware infested torrents.
- EricJ2190, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Couldn't MAFIAA abuse this system by filling many malware reports on good content?
- Uranium118, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I guess they wouldn't be called "public" anymore if they work exactly the same way as "private" ones.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3>Windows/Linux users< We are smart enough to not download crappy torrents.
- HonoredMule, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The situation would ultimately boil down to a 3-way fight between spammers who want their stuff considered good, IP holders who want their stuff considered bad, and actual peers who want the opposite of the first parties. If the service becomes very popular and ubiquitous, it will work wonderfully; if peers using the site outnumber IP-holders and spammers using it even just ten-to-one, others' subversive efforts will be wasted.
Democratic systems work well when the goal is to serve the majority in opposition to the minority, and in this case, that would be exactly what we want.
And, a system that covers all public trackers and works universally would really clean up bittorrent as a whole, which would rock...especially for newbs and the less technically savvy/more gullible. - softwhere, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3well is it liquid bleach or power bleach? and is it windy? these are all important factors in how well this wont matter.
- Zedoriah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Why is this based on the file name of the torrent instead the infohash?
- crazybrit, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4***** off.
- annihilator675, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Godamn I hate those comments. SEEEEED PLXXXX, ZOMG NO WORK, THIS IS SUCK, HOW I GET 2 PLAY THIS?, VIRUS DO NOT WANT, MY COMPUTER NO WORK NOW!!!!!
- tacojohn48, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4>Linux user< Don't have to be smug about it.
- AlienShe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3"One thing PC users can do that Mac users can't:"
http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=macs_cant - Uranium118, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Bad idea, what happens if legit torrents are starting to be reported? Because we know it will.
If you download fake torrents it's your fault and will serve you as lesson, if you can't even pirate correctly, don't. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2The only place I can think of that really needs this is Torrentspy. That site has, and will always be full of malware and viruses. But, this doesn't really mean much to Private sites like Demonoid and Torrentleech. Those sites have actual moderation, and uploaded torrents are checked first, so this is pointless is some ways. If public sites had moderation, they wouldn't need this in the first place.
- robmiller99, on 12/11/2008, -0/+1I know this will be old but its a great service. Great Idea.
http://news-about-spyware.blogspot.com/ - HonoredMule, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Throw in an update or plugin for your favorite bittorrent client, and it'll be perfect, because it won't matter whether your sites of choice use it. It could work very cleanly and smoothly implemented in similar fashion to the way web browsers flag possible phishing sites.
[Report Fake/Spam]
"We think this torrent might be a fake. [No, it's not]" - Darth_tater, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2then we would know exactly what torrents to *not* download.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2retarded
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Kind of poetic justice. Thieves getting spammed by other thieves..
- mookieXL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Because some trackers *cough*demonoid*cough* add their own ***** to torrents, changing it's hash.
- hypoh, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Who gives a ***** about public torrents really... If you download a bad torrent, that's your own god damn fault for being ignorant.
- slapthemonkey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2^^^^cant agree more......
- Darrion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0The downside of depending on the comments is the comments could be fake/plants also.
- jbentley77, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Because all torrent sites do not list the hash value.
- Aeric, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0The best way to clean up torrents are to keep people from seeding the garbage.
- jiludi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1yaaaay for people with no lives and jobs
- KyjL, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1http://www.freerebelart.net/
Somewhat related. - wiifm69, on 10/10/2007, -7/+3now if only other sites would utilise this. Great idea though
- maybeway36, on 10/10/2007, -9/+1onoes, my ubuntu has viruses and spyware on it!!!!!!!111 :O
- ahvi, on 10/10/2007, -11/+3um, usenet...
- slackerxpc, on 10/10/2007, -26/+6>mac user< Malware... is that one of those new drugs from Germany? >/mac user
