- killdashnine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+33Anything digital can be hacked, cracked, or broken into, particularly if they're marked "foolproof".
- Fredtheviking, on 10/10/2007, -0/+25Well, there is that. However, any email you sent will be copy all the servers it goes through to get to your recipient. The only thing you may have accomplished it to annoy your recipient. If you are really worry about an email coming to haunt you, the safest bet is not to sent the email in the first place.
- p0tent1al, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20It's times like this... that you really have to wonder how this ***** hit the frontpage.
- beatryder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19buried, lame.
as futureb said. a simple screen shot defeats all of these. - Nimphious, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Probably ricocheted off the fan.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I'm starting to think that if companies said that their DRM was easy to crack, hackers would just leave it alone :)
- ElMoselYEE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5well they also have ones that manipulate the refresh rate to one unreadable by any electronic technology, and it 100%'s the CPU, so your computer kicks into overdrive, shakes the desk, making you unable to write anything down.
ya...they got all bases covered. - shlorn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Great for all those times I wished my email had self destructed... Am I missing something?
- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Better: Who does if they know th e-mails have a limited lifetime and will self-destruct? Everyone who wants to.
- bradym80, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I should forward this to karl rove.
- RyanWilliams, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3What an absolute load of crap in every conceivable way.
Buried as lame. - majordanger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Dun......Dun....dun,dun,Dun......Dun....doo,doo,Dun....Dun
I can't get that Mission Impossible TV Theme Song outta my head! - grumpyrain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The analogue hole still exists. It is called a monitor and a camera.
- Beelzebub, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3No, they would probably just crack it at their leisure.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3THIS COMMENT HAS EXPLOADED

Faster - qcubed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+210 free, but I think I read the last one, #10, was pay?
- KingLeo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Pfffft: Command + Shift + 4 (or 3)
- harlowsmonkeys, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2When my employer sold a product several years ago that included a self-destructing email feature, we disabled print screen when an email was being viewed.
Yes, there are ways around most or all of these programs, but it isn't *THAT* easy. - dyreschlock, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2damn... i was hoping for some non-internet self destructing mail messages.
- OrangeTide, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3what a curious thing. not sure what the use is though. On OSX I can save almost anything as a nice spiffy PDF. Not sure how it prevents me from printing an email?
- Atomic1fire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2printscreen
alt+space (launchy ftw)
mspaint
ctrl v - eclectro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I would normally agree. But look at the vaporstream website. They separate the name from the message and use an IM like client, in which case a screen shot would not capture your name with the message.
But if you want to get around the keeping emails as evidence problem, just look and see how our(US) administration has successfully done it. - luther70, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Not possible without cooperation from the receiving end of the email.
- bjnord, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Today's UserFriendly is on this topic: http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20070727
- DamnMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Sure it is *THAT* easy. Either another screen capture program. a digital camera. or failing all that the sure fire, bullet proof way exists that was first developed in ancient times. writing it down on paper.
- Kwipper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Damn it! Stole my idea!
- Pensi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Come on Mission Impossible, what about Inspector Gadget. That was the first thing that came to my mind with exploding email.
- grumpyrain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I am pretty sure they just send a weblink to the email address, rather than text, the text itself would be downloaded when they visit the link. Unless they are totally crazy, it would be a https link so it can not be cached by the ISP. However, the other guy could quite easily prove that you sent him an email using a self destructing email service, and in all of the cases I can think of where you would want such a service, you wouldn't even want them to be able to prove you contacted them. In fact, them having proof that you sent them a destructible email would probably be worse for you if things ever got to court than if the email was a standard email because of the automatic suspicion.
- MothBoy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Make sure you use the Mission Impossible self-destructing IP packets!
- mattcoady, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This message will self destruct in five seconds.
GADGET!!! - SilenceBroken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Anyone who criticizes DRM but uses self-destructing e-mail is a hypocrite.
I feel better now that I said that. Disregard and carry on. - soupir, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1But I've hacked your Print Screen, see, and I've hacked your monitor. And it's over.
- MisterZero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1screen capture! i bet you can save it somehow too. something this lame can't be that great.
- soupir, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1May I suggest you start using Firefox, Safari, or heck, even Internet Explorer?
- soupir, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I get it. That's what the FBI wants us to think.
- Authustian, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4o dear god, don't let the current administration see this....
- MothBoy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Outlook only works for internal mail. Lots of luck trying to recall or expire a message that you have sent to my google mail.
- zavenapak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Mebeam's video conferencing site -provides self-destructing video rooms.
- mendigg, on 11/09/2007, -0/+0Anything digital can be hacked, cracked, or broken into, particularly if they're marked "foolproof". My site about an auto on Russian: http://www.avtosport.com.ua
- TheFBI, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Buried as gay.
- cyru5, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0False sense of security tbh.

[This comment has expired] - MothBoy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+5WTF? This is freakin reatarded.
Not only is it trivial to defeat the expiration, but the only way it will work is if they host the content and make you come look for it. That means that anyone who sends you email through one of these services has given them your email address, and by reading the message you have verified your address is valid, and they have the content of your mail message. Do you really trust these companies?
Nice spamming tool. I think I'll pass. - crlake, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0What is the point of this???? If the message is that imporant -- try NOT sending it through email. Try talking to the person face to face. That way, if the information get's out -- you know exactly who blabbed.
- kennyaustin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Quit thinking these are meant to limit the recipient and start thinking how to use them to limit unintended recipients..
If you have to email some sensitive information to a non-computer savvy friend/family, use this. Of course they could always print it, screen capture, take a picture of the monitor, or write it on a sticky, but at least your social security number, password, or secret crush won't be forever stored in their gmail account.
Or if you suspect the recipient is being monitor, use this. Either the recipient would be the only one allowed to read the message or you'd know someone is ease dropping.
kenny - rald84, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0uh, if the MAFIAA can't keep people from copying music and movies, how does anyone think they can come up with a foolproof way of digital (read: not M:I-esque self-destructing devices) self-destructing email, given the analog hole?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Why is the text all the way to the left of the browser?
