Top 15 Signs You're Addicted to Digg
adiggted.blogspot.com — I'm guessing I'm not the only one who is!
- 3567 diggs
- digg it
- EbenieRosa, on 10/12/2007, -23/+949I live on Digg man, for about 6 to 7 hours a day usually.
By the way, digg up my comment, it'll make me feel special...infact feel free to comment on my comment, I'll be checking in periodically.- TimTheEnchanter, on 10/12/2007, -17/+227Dugg up your comment dude.
- bunni, on 10/12/2007, -9/+285Sign #1 - you bury this as a duplicate story.
- kingfoot, on 10/12/2007, -84/+12This is true for me, all but #10...
is that sad? - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -3/+128I'm guilty on nearly all charges. Somehow I still miss stories even though I check Digg constantly.
- tkim91321, on 10/12/2007, -7/+65its ok... if digg didnt exist, i woudl have jumped off the building a long time ago
|D|I|G|G| - My Anti-Drug - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -5/+63you reply to the first comment to get noticed!
- treyd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+70even if what you say has nothing to do with the parent post. just like this.
- mysquares, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28i dugg you comment hopeefully you will befriend me ;)
- thunderer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I feel disheartened that you don't have a link to your website in your profile.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -3/+47Wow, I pretty much qualify for all of those. I want to see Dr. Phil visit Digg.
- drathosX3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11..dude, I have to go to ***** rehab...
- saudukargeneral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4yay, dugg you up. Feel good about yourself :D
- nickerbocker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34#16 - You create a blog posting about Digg and hope it makes the front page.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+44#17: You own a digg tee shirt, and you get a special feeling when you are wearing it.
#18: When you occasionally read Slashdot, you feel like a junkie trying to kick their digg-habit by using Methadone.
And, of course, it never seems as good as the real thing! - lazyrussian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+613 out of 15 aint bad
#16 - You feel special when your girlfriend/spouse/significant other gets into Digg!
I know I do! - Haroldx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I've done all but making the upcoming fonts larger.
lol - AriaStar, on 10/12/2007, -16/+5Hi, Im Aria, and I'm a Digg addict.
Something that should be on this list is that you will cut work to be at their beck and call for parties, groups, etc., as I've done. Or you feel dirty for occassionally checking Slashdot. Or feel outright proud that you made a comment that got dugg DOWN over 500 times (seriously! my proudest Digg moment, other than when my first submission hit the front page).
But I don't consider Kevin or Alex to be friends. Meeting Kevin once and otherwise only seeing them on the podcast doesn't make a friend. It makes someone who's cool to watch, but a friend is something more than that. So, except for that....
However, I am still stupidly thrilled at getting a Diggnation bottle opener at their office. Sorry, if that thing weren't so damned cool I'd shut up about it now. - Hyperreality, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I guess me writing this comment says something about my addiction! "Action speaks louder than words!"
By the way, dugg EbenieRosa as well! (+ some other comments! lol). - rjani57, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4thanks a million for confirming my addiction. just a few weeks in and all 15 ring soo...oooo true. need therapy. any offers? pls pls pls guys, don't bury me - makes me suicidal.
- electronaught, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4being addicted to digg is a good thing ... information is power right? ... and we addicts are at least being informed with what's happening in the world ... at least the tech world.. well for me anyways.. there's a lot worse things to be addicted to. shroooms would prob be one of those things. i've never tried...i'm just saying.
- akira117, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Sign 14: I have tons of profile views and I'm not sure why.......but happy that I do! ;7)
Also they should add https to digg so I can view it at work ;7)
(all sites are blocked except ones having to do with work, https is a way to get around it)
link to about it for the lazy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Https - mabhatter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2they need a "checkup" system like Slashdot... you'd think they'd have those features already.
- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3does it count if i don't actually know kevin but have, fact, met him? That would be the only one i don't score full points on.
- Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1090% of all your bookmarked pages are digg stories.....
- jman8888, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Im on it 6 hrs a day
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I've got a great solution for #12
http://www.headzoo.com/comments.php
Type in your username, and it'll show the comments. I can't live without this thing.
Come on, click it! Crash my friend's server! :D - Perno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm sad when I check Digg and there's nothing new/exciting going on since the last time I checked. Come on people, it's been AT LEAST an hour, something good must have happened somewhere, and I'm sure as hell not going to do the work to find it.
- kligmond, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1One day Digg too shall pass. Until then, Digg on.

Thank you, thats a pretty awesome tool. It'll save me some time from going back and checking on my comments. - fartingmenace42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yep, im addicted to digg
- MusicalGenius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How sad that this really does define my life. I can't say much more than it REALLY defines my life. I think only one of those isn't me on there, and sadly it barely misses me by an inch. I feel almost ashamed of myself and proud at the same time.
- flashboy131, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's not a habit, it's cool, I feel alright.
- trioxylon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1This is a reply...
- dtay2827, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Yeah I have a lot of profile views as well. I don't know why I rarely comment and don't submit stories.
- alexrapo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1www.uxelements.com
- amboy00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+102Oh man! I am so busted. Is there a group meeting for us or something?
- tutivlahos, on 10/12/2007, -6/+104Here we go...
My name is Tutivlahos and I'm a diggaholic.
*everyone*
Hi Tutivlahos! - oskite, on 10/12/2007, -32/+3What's diggahol?
- JuyLe, on 10/12/2007, -15/+7Hello my name is Julien and I'm an addict, all those signs are true for me, except those about kevin rose... If mom was reading this...
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Hi I'm an addict and fine with it.
All of them but, 7 - 9, 12, 14 & 15.
this is basically the only site I visit very regularly
I wish there was a better place for the community to meet. - thekidder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30@shinynew
Hell yes. Digg needs a forum. - macbookpromat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Hi,
My name is macbookpromat, I started using about a year ago only to get good stories. I finally signed up not too long ago and started digging. When I started I told myself that this wouldn't control my life. I failed. I have come here for help "sniffles".
On another not so retarded note, is it bad to be addicted? - Nicodascorpio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes. But being adDIGGted is ok. Just remember to wipe your nose, and apply eye drops every 2 hours.
- succubuskiller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I did the craziest thing to help my addiction. I edited my "hosts" file in the C:WINDOWSsystem32DRIVERSetc
Made a copy of the original. Then added sites I do not want to get sidetracked on to the current hosts file:
Specifically:
127.0.0.1 www.digg.com
127.0.0.1 digg.com
Now just rename the file to 'hosts2' anytime you want to view Digg or other 'blocked' sites. Rename it back to go to DNS page or whatever. There is a batch script floating around somewhere on Digg to do this with clicking instead of renaming manually. I haven't used it yet. Will work across IE, FF, Opera etc. - Lososaurus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dammit, ANOTHER Digg intervention?
- thetaco82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dude, what's the point of blocking Digg in your HOSTS file if you're just going to revert it every time you want to visit? I prefer using the HOSTS file to block sites that I don't want _other_ people going to.
*coughmyspacecough* - akira117, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1DAA - Digg Addicts anonymous
Start it at you local church
(they'll think it's slag for some drug probably) - TimTheEnchanter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Hi Tutivlahos!
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@succubuskiller
lol, I once wrote a program that blocked digg using that method, and had my friend (user Gatesophile) "test" it for me... pissed her off. :)
But it did inspire me to make a nifty C++ URL blocking proggy. If you want to take a look at it, the source is here: http://nerdiphythesoul.com/crap/sources/QnDUB-0.2.2.cpp
Forgive me for linking to my own site, but I just felt the need to share some love. :P - mapkinase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, meeting analogous to AA meeting in the pub.
- BigKitty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@amboy00,
My name is BigKitty and I'm addicted to DIGG.
@mapkinase,
Exactly!
- tutivlahos, on 10/12/2007, -6/+104Here we go...
- EbenieRosa, on 10/12/2007, -19/+6LMAO "Wow, you're cute, need some V1agr3? L1th1um, Pl4ne crashe, Sp05ks@ cum play with me111!!! lol, Ch34p Drugs, all you can eat, Half 0ff, Cow b3lls 5.99." ha ha ha.
hehehe, my point as it may be missed by the masses, this is the Only Article and ONLY post on the Blog made within the month = Spam. Promotion is fine, but there is only one article, Write more stuff, no offense, still though, I Definately do ZDigg the assertations.- jimi1337, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Ahem... What ads? I turned AdBlock+ off, specifically to test the validity of your comment, and I could still find no sign of ads. Additionally, the submitter last submitted a story 120 days ago, and it got 4 diggs. Not to mention the fact that he is a graphic designer, and doesn't strike me as the type who supports blatant spamming. Here is his homepage, btw (provided from his Digg profile).
http://www.theworkof.co.uk/ - jimi1337, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9[rant cont'd] Also, isn't it slightly more likely that the submitter is simply new to Blogger, especially considering he just created his account this month? Please provide slightly more than circumstantial evidence to back up your claims in the future.
P.S. Don't digg me down because you think I'm a troll -- Digg me down because I didn't add something relevant to the discussion.
-Jim W. - mercurysquad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I thought so too at first sight (no pun intended), but hey the list is spot on! As long as it was entertaining and lets say informative, I don't mind/care if this is the first post on the blog.
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'd like to point out that I created the blog specifically for this article because I thought it'd be nice to share. Would you rather I link directly to my personal webspace and have my bandwidth sucked within five minutes? And then you wouldn't be able to read the story at all. :)
Sometimes, people do good things. - ImTheDarkcyde, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3"P.S. Don't digg me down because you think I'm a troll -- Digg me down because I didn't add something relevant to the discussion."
I dugg you down right there, where you went off topic and told me not to digg you down. - jimi1337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ImTheDarkcyde
And yet somehow I still have 8 more diggs than you :P And, I was mainly talking to the person I originally replied to. Honestly, I wasn't aware of your existence. If you were trying to be funny, take a lesson from the the guy who posted the following comment:

I do this all the time at work, so I start checking "Most Popular" upcoming stories because it's almost as good as the front page. - dotlizard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"1) Digg is the first place you visit online. Bonus points if it's your homepage."
does it count if the DIGG RSS feed is the top item in my google homepage, plus I have a digg feed gadget on my desktop, in case I don't happen to open a browser window often enough? and whenever i do open a browser window, no matter how important the reason, the first thing i end up doing is opening most or all of the digg stories in new browser tabs, so i don't miss any of them if they get replaced in the feed? and that i almost always forget what it was i needed the browser window for, no matter how important?
- DubbedOver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36"3) You visit Digg so much that the newest story is STILL the newest story the next time you visit."

- TDR25, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I'm guilty of a lot of the things mentioned in that article. I'm sure Kevin Rose/partners involved in Digg will be filthy rich one day and laugh at the people that can't seem to live without Digg. I hate to play devil's advocate, but I'm guilty of using reddit too!
- vorfix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8By reading that list I realized how addicted I actually was.
- teknotant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Same here but I started to get the hint when one monitor of my dual-monitor setup was practically dedicated to digg.

- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@mt066:

- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Don't worry...previous generations all did the same exact thing. They called it the 'morning paper.'
It was actually made of paper, and was left on their doorstep.
(Back in the days when people could still go outside.)
(Oh sorry....'Paper 'was this kind of frozen-display 'monitor,' made from the ground-up bodies of these tall, greenish creatures called 'trees'....back in the day.)
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Don't worry...previous generations all did the same exact thing. They called it the 'morning paper.'
- GoldenChild1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I didn't realize how addicted I was until I read this, it has inspired me to create a profile to further enjoy Digg.
- OpenFuture, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought I was an addict and this article confirms it. Digg Rules!
